Awareness on Cyberbullying

Introduction: Cyberbullying is becoming the more typical form of bullying in todays day. With

how easy it is to get your hands on a computer or cellphone there is the danger of receiving or

sending malicious content. In this essay I will talk on cyberbullying to raise awareness on the

matter and show we need to prevent any form of bullying before someone is damaged by it. I

will touch the subjects of what is cyberbullying, Its effects on a individual, and ways we can

prevent cyberbullying

First Topic: What is Cyberbullying

A: The definition of cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell

phones, computers, and tablets.

B: Example of cyberbullying

There is a story of a girl who befriended an older male online. We later find out the male began

exposing her personal details publicly. The girl in turn kills herself.

Second topic: With cyberbullying it as well takes mental and physical tolls on a person.

A: Students who experience bullying are at higher risk to have poor academic performance,

difficulties with sleeping, anxiety and depression. They can as well develop a pattern of thinking

that they are the blame or they deserve what they got. Living like a victim can carry out into

maladjustment and they will have a difficult time interacting with others in life.
B: Physically they can self-harm themselves, not take care of their hygiene, and in worst case

they commit suicide.

Third Topic: Prevention and stepping in to help

A: When we witness any form of bullying and do not step in to help we fall into the By stander

effect. We see that the person needs help and we ignore it because there might be people

nearby and you dont want to be judged by them. The only way we can stop bullying is by

informing teachers, parents, and adolescents how to properly identify when cyberbullying is

happening in someones life and know how to intervene the situation. In the article

International Perceptions of Cyberbullying within Higher Education we see that among 1,587

professionals most of the teachers and staff did not feel prepared to step into a situation with

cyberbullying or even know how to react to it. We need to teach and inform teachers, students,

and parents that cyberbullying is something that is circulating in todays age.

B methods of prevention and intervening

1. Individuals dealing with cyberbullying should never be quiet. They should tell someone

they confide in what is going on and that they need help.

2. The adult should reassure the adolescent that the bully has no power and this will get

resolved.

3. We need to be taught not to forward or spread mean content but delete. As well not to

just act like you didnt see anything.

Conclusion:
To summarize everything in this essay we must know what cyberbullying is. The effects that

come along with it. As well we need to help those dealing with bullying by intervene in the

situation and teach teachers and staff of school how to react to it effectively.
