Laylat al-Qadr
The odd nights are on the night of the 20th fast (21 st
night) , the 22nd fast (23rd night),
the 24th fast (25 th night), the 26th fast (27th night)
and the 28th fast (29th night).

Although through hadith a slight emphasis is placed

on the 27th night. Laylat al-Qadr can be on any of
these nights.

Laylal al-Qadr is the night when the Holy Quran was

revealed to mankind.

“Seek out the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of

Ramadan,” and: “Whoever prays in the Night
of Qadr out of faith and expectation of reward will
have all of his past sins Forgiven.”

Allah's Messenger (pbuh) described the morning after Lailatul-

Qadr, so that the Muslim may know which day it is.
Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annee
"On the morning following Laylatul-Qadr the sun rises not having "O Allah! You are the Forgiver and You like forgiving so forgive me”
any rays,
as if it were a brass dish, until it rises up."

[Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmithi and Ibn Majah]

Laylat al-Qadr Tips
Some short tips to help you praise Allah swt on the odd nights.

1. Make a master dua list – Ask for everything and anything you like. Ask your friends if they are in search or
need of any help from Allah swt and do dua for them too. Make your list organised and categorise the
things you want to ask under headings.

2. Understand the power – Take a moment and ponder over the power of this night. The angels descend
down from the heavens, even the Angel Jibrail will also be one of those Angels that will descend on
this night. The very one that brought the revelation of Islam into this world.

3. Overcome tiredness - If you work through the day you will find the odd nights tough as you need to pray
up until Fajr with no rest. This is difficult but to sacrifice 5 nights in the year to gain 1000 months worth of
rewards is a beneficial sacrifice to be made.

4. Worship with others – Do not pray on your own in your room try to pray with your family or better yet go
to the local masjid whether you are a male or a female. The community gathering helps boost your spirit
and imaan.

May Allah swt reward you for your efforts PAGE 27
