Fabrication and Erection of out cell & in cell piping, Equipment Erection in Kalpakkam
Atomic Reprocessing Plant (KARP)-II

Project Description:

KARP is the atomic reprocessing plant for the reprocessing of atomic used fuel which is located in

Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research centre (IGCAR),Kalpakkam. PREFRE-3A Project is for

expanding the KARP Capacity by constructing KARP-II plant by Nuclear Recycle Group-
Projects (NRGP). This Project includes CS structural staging with SS cladding, SS piping fabrication

and erection and various equipments erection in six Process in cells and 14 out cell areas.

My scope of work in this project is to control the Quality of Out cell & In cell piping which

includes air, steam, process cooling water ,process off gas lines and various systems. As per ASME

Section III,VIII & IX.

Roles and Responsibilities:

 Ensure the material test certificate is available & according to the product
requirements.
 Inspecting the incoming materials for damages dimensions & corrosions.
 Preparing fit-up welding reports.
 Visual examination of root passes penetration, undercut, cracks, slag & open
porosity.
 Inspected the products visually in accordance to the client and supplier’s technical
specifications.
 Maintaining of pre weld and Post weld inspection in log note.
 Check completed joints for excessive reinforcement & other irregularities.
 Administered the process by using special calibrated tools and simple hand
tools for inspecting the products.
 Monitoring the inspection process and recommend necessary changes as per the
product requirements.
 Cross Functional Team member of new product inspection.
 Inspection of products with the help of NDT methods such as radiographic testing
and liquid penetration testing.
 Studied and interpreted the radiographic film and performed the inspection in
accordance to the technical specifications.
 Coordination with NDE group to clear RT films backlog.
 Preparation of welding and NDT reports.
 Witnessing Hydro proof pressure tests and Liquid penetration test.
 Maintained a record of all the inspection process in accordance to the procedures.
 Prepare records for all the inspection work carried and if required will provided
sketches for the same.
 Conducting welder qualification test with welding procedure specification
accordance with customer QC plan.
 Carry inspection and test activities as per QC plan requirements for client
specifications, international codes and standards as applicable.
 Prepare the WQR & identification card for qualified welders.
 Monitoring welder’s performance.
