Corrected Title:
STUDENTS COGNITION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE K-12 CURRICULUM: THEIR
RELATIONSHIP TO THE STIUDENTS PROFICIENCY IN THE PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Adviser : Norberto S. Galiza, Ed.D.
Panel Members : Nenita P. Blanco, Ed.D. (Chairman) Anabelle C. Felipe, Ph.D. Norma L. Fernando, Ed.D. Gerardo S. Garcia, Ed.D.
Suggestions from the Panel:
1) Focus on the theory of efficacy.
2) Change the paradigm. Add Student Cognition (indicators: 1) Expectations about PE and 2) Attitudes about PE) and Extent of Implementation as independent variables. These should be in two separate boxes and make sure that these should be included in the questionnaire. 3) Recast the second paragraph of page 1 and the whole of page 2. 4) Provide a status quo in the introduction of the study about the observed behaviors and attitudes of the students towards PE. Also, how PE is organized in high school. 5) On page 3, don’t make yet a conclusion about the study and avoid sweeping statements. 6) On page 39, check the criteria for physical fitness. It is suggested that a rubric should be developed for it. 7) Rubrics should measure the variables. 8) Specify whether the sports and games are individual or team. 9) Improve the questionnaire on page 36, appendix c. Items should focus on what the teacher does to implement all the domains. Include KSA questions, 10 per domain. 10) A rubric for sports should be improved. There should be 1 rubric for individual and 1 for team but the same in content. 11) Expand the definitions. Include a definition for wellness, lifestyle, etc. 12) Place ‘public secondary schools’ under the significance of the study to the scope and delimitation. 13) Remove the students as respondents. 14) In the data gathering procedure, mention also that principal will be asked for the conduct of the study. 15) Check the interpretations on page 30 and 41. Reconcile the interpretations with the ones in the questionnaire. 16) All sources that are mentioned in the study should be properly cited and should be listed in the ‘literature cited’ part of the paper. Moreover, remove all sources listed in ‘literature cited’ which are not used in the study. 17) Present the revised questionnaire to the chairman.
