The karthikai dheepam is purely Dheepalakshmi puja. And in Chokkapanai -
swargathaalam the holy fire Goddess Mahalakshmee comes in as Lord Narasimha looks on. Lord Narasimha after He performed Hiranyakasipuvadham and also did Sarabheswara samhaaram He looked on all sides everywhere and from His third eye on His forehead came fire as He is much angry on Hiranyakasipu since and on all sides as He saw fire broke up. Mahalakshmi came from the space into fire alingwith prahladha and passified lord narasimha. To commemorate this we do chokkapanai firing today on the eve of Tiirukarthikai and Mahalakshmi is worshipped in chokkapanai. This chokkapanai puja is prescribed by Maharishis of Srivaikhanasa BhagawatSastra. For the same reason only the Shiva temples too observe Chokkapanai. And there is no historical evidence of Lord Vishnu as Varaha searching for feet of Shiva. It never took place and is not having any record in Vedhas, Ramayana, Mahabharatha. These three main base texts of sanathanadharma did not have this fake story of Lord Brahma searching Lord Shiva's head and the Almighty Lord Mahavishnu searching Lord Shiva's feet. The Gangadhara Shiva has on His head the Ganga who is originating from Holy feet of Lord Mahavishnu. Pls remember that. Hence Srivaishnavas and many smarthas don't accept these fake stories of Sarabha or Prathyangira passifying Lord Narasimha . We should recall that Adisankara when captured by the Adhivasis invoked Lrod Narasimha's protection only. He didn't seek Sharabha, Shiva or pratyangira's protection. Adisankara and all know that Jagathrakshaka SriMahavishnu can only protect Braham Rudra Indra and all living beings. This post is for enlightening those who don't know the real facts of Hinduism and not for those who are not synchronising with me. We Srivaishnavas only take Vedhas and the two Ithihasas alone for Pramanam. No puranas pls. They are not authentic. Which puranas are authentic & which are not? - that's a special category; Now not necessary. If any quote from Vedhas and the two Ithihasas with proper evidence I shall change my stand. Without any evidence pls don't disturb. Karthikai month gets its name as Pournami and Kruthikai are in a same day generally. All celebrate Yamadheepam Bharanidheepam Kruthikadeepam etc. But the Pournami Dheepam is the most important of all Dheepams. Goddess Mahalakshmi's brother in Ksheerabdhi - milk ocean Lord Chandra is in full form on pournami. Hence as every Dheepam is Lakshmi Swaroopam She is most adored on Pournami day as Dheepalakshmi. Those who celebrate this Pournami dheepam are the most lucky as they invoke Lakshmeekataksham. Without Her kataaksham all the Thrimoorthys Vishnu, Brahma, Shiva and all devas and total living beings can't do anything good. Its She who cares for us and makes us all do good to all. In temples everywhere to any Devatha, whether its Vishnu, Shiva, Durga, Skandha, Vinayaka or any devatha we see automatically on the door top of the temple or garbhagriham or antharalam Goddess GajaLakshmi sitting there on top. On Her Divyakataaksham - divine grace the inside Devatha is blessing every devotee. She is the pradhaanamantri ( prime minister) to Lord Mahavishnu the Jagathpathi (president) of whole universe.
