Lord Shiva: 5 Biggest myths busted

Shiva, the first yogi or the Adiyogi is not just a Hindu God, but a system that upholds
Universe together. He is the backbone, the very being of humanity per se.
Shiva is both 'existence' and 'death'. He is who withholds within him both water and fire.
“Shiva” refers to both “that which is not,” and Adiyogi, because in many ways, they are
synonymous." – Sadhguru
Here’s in a list, 5 biggest myths about ‘Shiva’.
1. Does ‘Shiva-Linga’ Really Represent Shiva’s Genitals
Well, we aren’t very sure as to what really started the myth, like a forest on fire, but Shiva-
Linga does not represent Shiva’s penis. Did that hurt your eyes? Imagine how it would hurt
the sentiments of people who practice Shiva consciousness or belong to that realm altogether.
‘Shiva-Linga’ actually represents the infinite being that Shiva is. It means that he has no
beginning and no end. It actually signifies the light that we are as souls and how the entire
Universe begins and merges in it with ease.
2. About Marijuana And Hemp Concoction
This is the trickiest one, whilst many believe that Lord Shiva is the most chilled out and
coolest God deity ever – it is for us to ponder if he really consumes Marijuana and Hemp.

Whilst posters, pictures, paintings etc. continue to paint a picture of him as a man who
smokes ‘chillum’ and consume ‘bhaang’, nothing can be proved from the records.
Not even Shiva Purana mentions Shiva being addicted to or consuming either. Well, let’s not
assume a being infinite caged in a ball or free of worldly pleasures. Shall we not?
3. Lord Ganesha and Other Things
If you really are a follower of Shiva, you can never get enough of this man, being, god or
whatever you would love to name him. There is always a quest, a thirst to know more and
more about him.
Often, people question that being a know-all as he is omnipresent and omnipotent, he is who
knows all and is all-powerful, did he not know that Lord Ganesha was his son? If he did, why
did he act on his impulse beheading Ganesha as a kid who was just obeying his mother and
performing his duty?
Well, that is sure a very valid question. First thing first, we really have to understand most
often than not, what we hear is word of a mouth, rather than a fact. Are we really sure, it all
happened what we glorify as if we witnessed it all in person? Also, why do you think that his
entire life is called a pageant? Because even when he is a know all, he indulges himself in the
human character-play and portrays himself to be uncelebrated to facts.
4. About Shiv-Shakti Being Adam and Eve
Lord Shiva is also known as Adidev, however, that is nothing to do with him being ‘Adam’
or Shakti being ‘Eve’. As per the records about Adam and Eve, there is nothing that resonates
with the story of Shiva and Shakti. Also, many philosophers and saints till date believe and
have faith that it was Lord Manu and his wife Shatarupa who represent Adam and Eve in
different mythologies.
5. Was Shiva Really an Aghori
There are different values, sentiments and stories attached to it, however, Shiva’s
Kaalbhairava avatar signifies the ‘Aghora’ culture. Shiva is in literal terms infinite, there is a
phrase in Hindi – ‘jiska naa aadi; naa antt’ (he who has no beginning and no end).
Those who know him, they will never ask. Those who ask will never know him.
You are that. I am that – We are all him, yes.
