Strategic Paper on
DEFINITION OF ACCIDENT
Introduction
MyCall is a product being built by K-Circle Digital Solutions Private Limited. This operates in Accident
Safety space i.e. when a Vehicle meets with an Accident, MyCall would come into picture. It does a few
transactions based on the fact that an Accident had occurred and the driver of the vehicle in question
would need to be provided safety in the shortest possible time.
As one can see from the above, MyCall needs to “identify” that an accident took place so that it can act
with remedial measures. For that, MyCall should know what an ‘accident’ is in the first place. For, an
Accident can happen in multiple ways and hence, can be defined in multiple ways. Unless all the
parameters that make an accident are known with absolute clarity; and the parameters’ values and the
levels at which an accident is caused or becomes fatal are discussed in functional and technical terms,
the same can’t be brought under the purview of programming for the corrective actions.
There is also another reason why this is needed. MyCall’s Hard Ware needs to be designed for optimum
performance. The Hardware will be comprised of a (number of) Sensor(s) each of which may require a
separate circuit to be built. Hence, a holistic picture of the required H/W is imperative for an optimal
design and the H/W’s picture is known only after the definition(s) is / are known and frozen.
This paper aims to bring out various possible Accidents with descriptions and techno functional
definitions. This paper will discuss the feasibility of incorporating the definition of each and every
Accident type for MyCall. There may be a category of Accidents that will not be addressed in MyCall (if
the Accident is not of ‘Fatal’ or ‘High Severity’ type); another category that may be pushed to next
versions of MyCall (owing to high complexity of definition / ambiguity of definition) where as some will
be prioritized for the initial version of MyCall.
This document will be a running document – every time the team comes across a new definition of
accident, the same will be added to the document, will be analyzed and strategized as to what should be
its priority of order of execution. This document will be owned by Ravi Madiraju.
Fatal Crashes
Obviously we can’t focus on all types of crashes. For example, a Side-Ways crash which may not harm
the driver is not the thing to be focused initially. Focus should be on Fatal Crashes.
