Manifest Destiny

Overrule the everyday—

Ignore all protocol
Until our ever presence
Invites us to stay
Inside our essence
& the pith of the mirrored past
Welcomes us into the moment
We were promised
Before our passing—

Moon is a scarred mistress—

Sun—a luminous tomb—
Each star’s light reaches out
Like the arms of a stranger
No one’s kissed—
Each galaxy is a hint
Of a history we’ve missed—

Despite night’s demands

& light’s intrusions—
The weather we’re born into
Becomes the weather we love—
However much we long
For other atmospheres we breathe
The atmosphere that’s here—
We abide the colloquy of cloud
& sky as if what’s spoken
Comes from someone—
Or something—we can comprehend—
Make this our world a universe—
Make this our universe a world—
Our Homeland is the only home
We know—new heaven needs
New earth for multiplying millions
To reach new areas of freedom—

Stake a claim—claim a name—

Mine that ore no others know is
There in that secret vein
No other’s eyes but yours
Can see despite the common light—
The communal air—

We own whatever swims

Or flies or crawls & breathes—
We own the stones—
We own the trees—
We own whatever we can seize
By filibuster or aggrieved
Retrieval—opposed or
Unopposed—unappeased—
