Objective:
1. to be able to inspire disciples to renew their focus on their purpose
2. to be able to encourage disciples to join or support missions

Key Scripture: Mark 1:14-20 and Matthew 28:18-20

What can we learn from these familiar Scriptures?

• call to discipleship
° start of training - purpose
° end of training - mission

1. Come and Follow

1. Come and Follow

Why did we join the mission? Why did we choose Lucena? Why did we respond at that time and
not join other missions like Naga or Calapan or Taguig?

• the Scripture talks about Jesus calling the first disciples to join him in his mission
• Come - invitation by Jesus
° Jesus is inviting them to be in his place
° He is having an awesome relationship with God & free from sin
° a life of holiness and security
° an eternal life to be spent with God
• Follow - why stop there in just having a short period of freedom from sin?
° Jesus wants us to grow
° He wants us to mature
° He wants us to overcome character weaknesses
° He wants us to learn to preach and teach and counsel and minister and serve
° He wants us to learn to forgive and to love
° He wants us to be His disciples and be like Him

2. Go and Make

• after being taught by Jesus for 3 years, experiencing discipling & rebuke 1st hand, seeing
miracles upon miracles
° it's now their time to do their purpose
° they are on their own missionary journeys
 ° it's their opportunity to help people see, learn, and experience a life with Jesus Christ
• they will GO to places where Jesus is not Truly known
° a journey of God's set purpose for them
° a choice with obedience and trust and faith in God alone
• they should MAKE disciples of Jesus
° their purpose in their own journeys
° not just for career change or going back to their home towns or see places or the hype
° all other reasons are because of this sole purpose
° you choose a career available in the mission field because you want to reach out to the
locals, while sustaining yourself
° you go back to your home town to open the Bible to your family, friends and
acquaintances
° you travel to nearby towns and cities to have Bible talks and study the Bible with people
° seeing people respond to Jesus and choose to be His disciples IS THE HYPE that takes
away all the heartaches of what were sacrificed

3. Teach to obey

• their mission is not just to plant the seed in people's hearts

° the young Christians must follow JESUS' lead
° they should also grow in knowledge, character, learn things they do not know, learn to
forgive, love, do their purpose, teach, counsel, minister, serve, etc.
• they were able to reach out the likes of Barnabas, Silas, Paul, Timothy, Philip, Titus, Aquila,
Pricilla, Lydia, etc

Why am I sharing about being a disciple?

• we joined the mission because we are disciples of Jesus

• our purpose is to make disciples
• our mission is to do this where Jesus is not known, in our case, in Quezon
• we also want to see people change and live their lives under Jesus' lordship
° marriages saved from breaking apart, singles from drug abuse, homosexuality,
irresponsible and immoral lives, students from rebelliousness, etc.
° more Pauls, Timothies, Barnabases, Aquilas, Priscilas, Lydias
• it was my dream since I was in the campus at age 17
• it became our shared dream a few years ago
• it was a hard decision
° I left the opportunity to be assigned in Dubai as a buyer/merchandiser. MJ left the 7 yrs
tenure and the opportunity to for a higher position
° we had lost all our savings and even pawned some jewelry
• it was the best decision
• MJ will share later what happened

What's your mission? Where's your Lucena? When is your now?

Acts 1:6-8

• the disciples who witnessed Jesus were given the mission to bear witness and testify to:
a. Jerusalem - home church/city
b. Judea - nearby towns/provinces/cities
c. ends of the earth
• they were spread out in these areas
° these are the mission fields
° here they testifies about Jesus

Where is God calling you to go? What have you been doing? What are you waiting for?

• if the Word feeds us to be alive, our purpose keeps us healthy

• remember the parable of the sower? how many were planted? how many grew and prospered
spiritually?
° the spiritually healthy grows and multiplies
° if your not keeping your heart cultivated but had allowed it to harden or had thorns grow in
it, you will just end up dying

What's the difference between us?

• the only difference is the place of mission
• if Lucena has students that need God in Enverga University, Sacred Heart College, Maryhill
College, South Luzon State University, Calayan Educational FoundationUnivetsity and St Anne
College, QC has UP, Ateneo, Mirriam, TIP, PSBA, NCBA, UA&P, etc
• if Lucena has singles that needs saving from immoral, drug addiction, worldly and selfish lives,
so are the singles in QC
• if there are broken families, dying marriages and disunited coupled that need God in Lucena, so
are the couples in QC

• what we practiced in Lucena are lifestyle evangelism

• we have learned it here
• no need for campaigns to share your faith
• no need to be called a missionary to do missionary work
° although there is a great need for a great number of missionaries to be sent in places where
Christ is not known
• you just need to practice it everyday
° how many lost souls do you meet everyday?
° family, jeepney driver, neighbor, classmate, officemate, boss, teacher, clients, passersby,
traffic aide, service crew, cook, vendor, internet shop owner, etc
° still to be planted until 2020

• God is not finished with you

• start listening to the Spirit
• Get the Job done
