The Importance of Navamsa in the evaluation of a Horoscope
Most of those who seek the
advice of an astrologer to read on
their horoscopes are quite
oblivious to the significant aspect
of Navamsa in their horoscope.
They find this as an auxiliary chart
simply given aside of the Rasi
Chart. But for an astrologer the
Navamsa Chart furnish the basis
to ascertain the strength of the
planets in the Rasi Chart. Rasi
Chart and the Navamsa Chart are
similar in all respects, both have
twelve houses and nine planets
in it. As far as the houses or
Planets are concerned , their
characteristics, nature and the
role they play remain the same in
both. An astrologer, without the
information, furnished below, can
retrieve all the details by merely
looking at the Rasi Chart and the
Navamsa Chart.
Among the Shadvargas such as
Rasi, Hora, Drekkana, Navamsa,
Dwadasamsa and Sapthamsa
which are used to evaluate the
strength of a horoscope, the Rasi
and the Navamsa Charts play a
key role in this respect. The
Navamsa is a division of a house
into nine divisions making a total
of 108 divisions to all 12 houses.
These nine divisions in a house
basically mean the pathams of
the constellations (Nakshatras) in
that house. Each Nakshatra has
four pathams and for the total of
27 nakshatras there are 108
pathams. A house is 30 degrees
and when it is divided into nine
equal parts it is 3 degrees and 20
minutes for a division which is
equivalent to a patham of a
Nakshatra in that house.
Therefore, it will be seen that in a
Navamsa Chart, Nakshatras play a
dominant role.
Even Jamini Astrology gives
dominance to Navamsa,
according to it, the planet which
longitude is the furthest in a
house (most advanced) becomes
the Atmakaraka and the house
occupied by the Atmakaraka in
the Navamsa becomes the
Karakamsa Lagna from which
reading is done basing on the
planets seen in the Navamsa
Chart. The disposition of planets
relevant to Karakamsa may have
significant influence in the
reading.
