Another reason why there are a lot of unemployment happened in Malaysia is that

because of the attitude problems. Fresh graduates can “moan” all they want about the lack
of jobs that don’t require any prior working experience, but actually it’s their attitude that
needs to be change. After graduates, they are plenty of jobs catering specifically for those
who are starting out, if only the graduates are willing to change their attitude. According to
JobStreet country manager Chook Yuh Yng, it becomes more difficult for a graduate to get
employed for a job that offers a lower salary than what he or she expecting. She highlighted
that about 60% of the respondent fresh graduates were asking too high for salary in their
first jobs. It disclosed that 60% of them expected a salary about RM3,500 for first job while
30% wanted to be paid RM6,500. It showed that there is a gap between what companies
were willing to pay and what the candidates wanted to be paid.

On top of that, when in an interview, employers will often look at what’s on the
resume. They also will look at the ability to communicate, the attitude, the soft skills and the
ability to what they can contribute to the company. While fresh graduates can moan about
how prospective employers are asking for experience and all that, it’s more to do with
jobseeker’s ability to be better candidates for the job they’re applying. So, they need to look
at attitude. Unrealistic expectation from candidates is the reasons for not getting the job.
SOLUTION TO THE UNEPLOYMENT PROBLEM

In order to fix the problem of the unemployment, based on the attitude and the soft
skills problems towards the newly fresh graduate student from the university in Malaysia,
Government had been introducing the 1 Malaysia Training Scheme, or better known as
“Skim Latihan 1 Malaysia” (SL1M). The main purpose of organising this Scheme is to help
and assisting the underprivileged graduates from rural and urban area, and less but not
least, also included the marginalised society as well.

Through this program, the target involved in this initiative programmed are being
given an opportunity to experience on working in private and government-linked company
(GLC), hence making both of this sector as a platform on developing the talent of the future
worker and as their contribution towards realising these agenda in Malaysia, where it also
can be seen as their act as corporate social responsibility (CSR). It helps approximately about
120,000 graduate students in giving them an opportunity to get their own job based on this
schemed.

Those who are applying and joining this programme will be train in the 12 month
time of period and will be given an allowance for each month. Furthermore, those trainees
who are performing well in their training will be absorbed in the company where they are
being trained in and will be taken as a permanent worker. Hence, it’s a great benefit
towards the unemployed workers who are looking for their job as soon as possible,
especially after they succeed in completing their training course. However, for those who
are still not being able to find the job after they already completed their training in the
company, they can join the training course once again in different company, which is
probably more suitable to their job vacancies.

Based on the current youth unemployment in Malaysia, there are still 250,000
labours that are still searching for their job, which means, this programed already helped
half of them to get their job. Other than that, the programmed also enable those who are
participating in this programmed with a valuable experienced and knowledge that is being
searched by the employers in order to get the right people to be taken as their employees in
their company.
Moreover, not only to mention on the behaviour of the fresh graduate students who
are picky in the job that they want as the main carrier and unreasonable salary that being
demanded by them to the employer are the reasoned why they still being consider as the
jobless person, this programmed are being made to change these kind of attitude by making
them realised about the current situation and the competitiveness among themselves in
order to get the best job for their own selves. For example, By instilling the story of the
successful people who started from zero to hero, hopefully will change the mind-set who
only seeks for the shortcut to have a better job straight away.

This programmed also not only focussing about helping the unemployed graduate
students but also aimed to help their family to get better off in terms of their family
economy state. If we look it in different way, it is totally affecting the family of the graduate
student to be able to sustain hence making them to have better financial condition, since
the job that had been secured to them will also make them be able to help their family
financially and also provide the needs as well.
