PREFACE
ABOUT THIS BOOK

T
his short book by Master Simon Wong contains valuable information to help you begin
using Feng Shui to improve your life. It focuses on the powerful Flying Star system of
Feng Shui, of which little is known or published in the West. Flying Star Feng Shui
incorporates Chinese Astrology to track the movements of the planets in the solar system and
thus chart the changing cycles of energy on the earth. With this information you can avoid the
negative areas and enhance the positive. After reading this book you’ll have a better under-
standing of how to organise your environment and put yourself in the best position for suc-
cess in 2001.

There’s also a small section on both the history of Feng Shui and the concepts behind it.
You’ll discover that Feng Shui can be used to forecast many global events as Master Wong
gives his predictions for the coming year. There’s also a review of Master Wong’s predictions
for the year 2000.

Next year Master Simon Wong will publish a more extensive guide to using Flying Star Feng
Shui and Chinese Astrology for success in 2002, which will retail at £10, and contain full
explanations of all the concepts mentioned in this short book. It will be the first time such a
comprehensive text has been available in the West

Although this book is provided absolutely free of charge, bear in mind that you would not be
able to buy this information even if you wished to. Despite the multitude of Feng Shui titles
available, much of it has never been seen before on the western market. We’re sure you’ll find
it a valuable resource!

This book may be freely distributed in its electronic form, and a copy printed for personal
use. However it may not be reproduced, copied or altered in whole or in part without prior
written consent from the author.

ABOUT YELLOWDRAGON

T he Yellowdragon organisation was set up by Master Simon Wong in 1996 in order to offer
Westerners the opportunity to experience the true essence of a broad cross-section of
Eastern arts and philosophies so that they could benefit from these teachings in their daily
lives.
The name of Yellow Dragon was chosen to honour a meeting between a Taoist Monk (Loi
Dong Bung) and a Buddhist Master (Yellow Dragon) who shared their knowledge. This
resulted in Loi Dong Bung learning to understand compassion and the meaning of long life
(to help others), which led him to achieve enlightenment. After this he taught his wisdom and
compassion to many people, leading to a great number of them also achieving enlightenment.
The purpose of Yellowdragon is therefore to teach people how to achieve Enlightenment
through the Chinese arts and philosophy.

The Yellowdragon centre is situated in the heart of London, close to the Barbican Conference
Centre.

FOREWORD BY DR. WILLIAM DYSON

I
have to declare an interest at once. Master Simon Wong is my Tai Chi and Chi Kung
teacher, and I write as his student and admirer. He is a man of great knowledge and ancient
lineage who has made a lifelong study of the Chinese martial and cultural arts. His time
is now dedicated to practising and teaching those arts and to fostering works of charity and
goodwill.

Simon Wong is also a Buddhist master of great enlightenment. His understanding of the
Dharma is deep, and his work is motivated by compassion for all sentient beings.

Chinese culture has always understood that the universe is permeated by a vital force or ener-
gy. Everyone knows the Chinese word chi, sometimes translated as “cosmic breath” or “vital
principle”; but it does not matter what name is given to this energy.

The important thing is that we cannot live healthily - we cannot live with joy and contentment
- unless we live in harmony with it. Not living in harmony with it is like swimming against
the current of a river, or walking into a high wind.

The Chinese people became aware of this force long before the occidental world did. By a
process of trial and error extending over many centuries, they developed practices through
which human beings might understand and use chi in its various manifestations.

In the West, the best known of these practices are the martial arts, and especially the “inter-
nal” arts of Tai Chi Chuan, Bagua Chang and Hsing Yi Chuan. More and more people have
experienced the benefits of acupuncture and related therapies. More recently, the West has
become aware of the art of Feng Shui, to which this book is a guide. Feng Shui - literally
"wind-water" - is sometimes called the art of placement. It is the art of managing or arrang-
ing our environment in such a way as to create a fruitful relationship between ourselves and
the chi which flows through all parts of it.

Master Wong is a highly accomplished practitioner of Feng Shui and has helped many peo-
ple over the past ten years or more.

But the Chinese people understand that to every positive there is a negative: every force has
its 'dark side.' Master Wong knows that Feng Shui can be harmful, or can fail to be benefi-
cial, if misused or used by people whose understanding of it is inadequate. It is for this rea-
son that he has decided to make his knowledge available in writing. The result is a volume
full of knowledge and wisdom.

Dr. R. W. Dyson - Professional academic, author and an experienced martial artist.

British national; graduate of Durham University; practising Buddhist; Tai Chi practitioner & instructor.

INTRODUCTION TO MASTER SIMON WONG

M
aster Simon Wong has been a Feng Shui Master for over 15 years. He is recognised
as one of the top masters in Europe and his advice is highly sought after as a means
to maximise the potential of buildings around the world. His work has encompassed
luxury homes, stockbrokers, top restaurants, fashion centres, photographic studios, banks and
other financial institutions, and he has acted as an advisor to architectural companies as well
as teaching Feng to many people through Feng Shui courses and seminars.

These include stockbroking establishments, hotels, banks and other financial institutions in
London and a vast number of shops, restaurants, offices and private homes in the UK and
many countries worldwide.

Master Wong’s expert advice is highly regarded as a means to maximise the potential of any
building - as testified by the many successful businesses who have consulted him and the
improved relationships, health and finances of those whose homes he has helped to improve.

As founder of Yellow Dragon International, Master Wong is dedicated to offering true Feng
Shui and not the dubious Feng Shui that has become widespread in recent years.

Feng Shui is an ancient art that takes years of dedicated study and practice and is finely inter-
woven with Eastern spiritual traditions which focus on the nature of energy.

As a highly respected Vajra Master of the True Buddha School of Tantric Buddhism and a stu-
dent of the Green City Style of Taoism, Master Wong’s spiritual powers make his Feng Shui
services unique.

He can even enhance the effects of the Feng Shui by empowering a Taoist talisman to destroy
any negative influences. He can also contact and remove spirits that may be residing in the
house and causing problems. These skills are very rare and this is what separates Master
Wong and Yellow Dragon International from other services.

In addition to his Feng Shui skills Master Simon Wong is the founder of Yellow Dragon Fist
Kung Fu; a 7th Generation Master of Bamboo Forest Temple Mantis Kung Fu, and a 7th
Grade Black Sash with the A.M.A.

He is the U.K. representative of 100 Day Chi-Gung, and the founder of the Rainbow Chi-
Gung Institute.

4

He has mastered both the Small & Large Circle styles of Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan and has
studied Wing Chun, Pak Mei & Hung Gar.

Master Simon Wong has been studying Tantric Buddhism, the martial arts and Chi-Gung for
more than 25 years, and has been teaching this knowledge for over 15 years.

MASTER WONG IN THE MEDIA

M aster Wong has recently featured on Channel One & CNE satellite TV stations regard-
ing Feng Shui, as well as Newsworld and The Chinese Channel satellite television
(TVBI) regarding his spiritual consultations. He has appeared live on G.L.R., Capital Radio
& News Talk to discuss Chinese astrology and fortune telling and was interviewed in 1996
by a Chinese radio station when he accurately predicted Labour's success in the 1997 General
Election. His predictions have also been published in the Londoner’s Diary in The Evening
Standard.

In addition he has acted as a professional advisor for a BBC documentary on Feng Shui, and
was consulted by The Sun regarding John Major & Tony Blair's Feng Shui. On a Scottish
theme, he was interviewed by the Sunday Mail for an article about Scottish celebrities using
Feng Shui, and gave a lecture on the use of Feng Shui to the Royal Bank of Scotland. The
Sunday Express also published an article about an interview Master Wong gave regarding
Feng Shui. In 1998 Master Wong appeared on BBC Radio 4 & Channel 4 television, and gave
lectures to High Wycombe Council. In 1999 he acted as a “spiritual spin doctor” to certain
Labour MPs and became the Feng Shui columnist for HomeStyle magazine. Last year (2000)
he was favourably reviewed on BBC television’s Watchdog consumer progamme.

INTRODUCTION TO FENG SHUI

WHAT IS FENG SHUI?

F eng Shui means “wind and water”. It is an art that was developed in ancient China over
3000 years ago, and is similar to Western geomancy.

It is based on Chinese philosophy, and the following 5 principles:

(1) Tai Chi

The theory of yin and yang. The positive and negative power.

(2) 5 Elements (5 Energies)

The interaction of the destructive and creative energies.

(3) Pa Qua (Bagua)

The 8 directions. Also known as the ‘8 Mansions’.

(4) I Ching
The 64 directions of universal power created from the Pa Qua (Bagua).

(5) Lok Shi

The influence and effect of the 9 stars upon the Earth.

Feng Shui is used to direct the flow of energy in your surroundings to create an environ-
ment that is harmoniously balanced.

It works by harmonising the electromagnetic radiation that issues from the Earth, the other
planets in our solar system, the Sun and that of our own bodies, thereby enhancing the pos-
itive influences of the environment while avoiding the negative ones.

It is used to determine the best site for one's home, place of work or business and the best sys-
tem of design and positioning for interior decorating that avoids obstructing the natural flow
of energy in relation to your own internal energy. This will create a most favourable envi-
ronment in which you can function at the top of your ability.

6
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

Feng Shui can be divided into 2 major styles - Landscape Feng Shui and Metaphysical
Feng Shui.

Landscape Feng Shui is divided into large and small variations, and can affect your luck for
a long time - for example 8 Mansions Feng Shui (also known as I Ching Trigram Feng Shui)
and Large Landscape Feng Shui.

Metaphysical Feng Shui comprises Flying Star and I Ching Feng Shui, and can affect your
luck for a short time.

By combining both of these different styles the accuracy of the consultation will be increased.

WHY IS FENG SHUI CALLED “WIND AND WATER”?

T he reason why this art was called Feng Shui or Wind and Water is something that very
few people understand. However, we will reveal the hidden meaning behind the name.

The two forces of wind and water are the destroyer and creator of chi respectively.

Water: Chi is created by water, through the process of evaporation. The scientific explana-
tion of this is that, as a substance - in this case water - changes from liquid to vapour, it goes
through a chemical reaction at a molecular level generating and releasing energy.

This energy is chi. The ancient Chinese knew of this centuries before it was discovered by
modern science.

Wind: The way chi is destroyed by wind is more straightforward. The wind simply blows the
chi away, dispersing and moving it from one place to another.

If an area is affected by strong winds, then it will have very bad Feng Shui because the chi
will be unable to settle. Therefore the area will not benefit from any chi that is to be found
there.

HOW DOES "CHI" RELATE TO FENG SHUI ?

A lthough it is an ancient art, Feng Shui is built on sound scientific principles supported by
modern physics and the understanding of energy.

The Earth and all living things emit energy. This has been known for thousands of years by
the Chinese but has only recently been validated by new discoveries in the field of quantum
physics.

7
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

This energy is known as chi to the Chinese and electromagnetic energy to scientists. Feng
Shui is an ancient system devised to study and change the effects this electromagnetism has
on our daily lives.

Knowledge of this energy allows us to orientate our surroundings to be in harmony with the
electromagnetic field of the earth.

The blood inside our bodies contains iron, which as a metal is affected by magnetic
fields. If the magnetic fields inside a building are compatible with our own, the environment
will have positive effects on our health, concentration, relationships and financial success. If
the magnetic fields are incompatible, the effects will be negative.

Feng Shui has been described as acupuncture for the home. The reason for this is that in the
body chi (energy) flows along paths known as meridians. When there is a blockage in the
meridian, illness develops and the pressure points have to be manipulated to remove the
blockage and restore health.

The energy flowing all around us is no different. It needs to flow freely. If a blockage is
caused by an incorrectly designed building, then the energy will stagnate.

This leads to poor health, lack of concentration resulting in accidents and bad decisions,
depression, arguments and tension in and around the building, all of which will create a mis-
erable home environment or financial disaster for a business.

However, a well designed building based on Feng Shui principles will have the opposite
effect, making people feel healthy and full of vitality, able to concentrate better and make
well-informed decisions.

This will create higher productivity for a company and better relationships in a household.
This type of environment leads to a happy home or a prosperous business.

By using Feng Shui, you can avoid the problems of an incorrectly designed building and
transform your home or business into an ideal environment that will enhance your well-being
and financial prosperity.

WHO CREATED FENG SHUI?

T here are many theories about the origins of Feng Shui, but no one really knows who cre-
ated it or has seriously attempted to answer this question.

The common theory about the origins of Feng Shui are that it was created by an ancient
Chinese statistician through his research and experience in this field.

8
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

However, Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu explained to me that Feng Shui was created by
“beings” from another dimension called “THE SOUND AND LIGHT HEAVEN”:

“Actually, these“beings” were the progenitors of modern man and their knowledge still sur-
passes that of contemporary science.

“These “beings” had many supernatural powers and when they travelled through space, they
saw the beautiful planet Earth and decided to explore it.

“However, once they tasted the fruits of this planet, their bodies became too heavy to leave
this dimension. After a few generations, their supernatural powers were obscured by desire
and material cravings. One of the supernatural powers that they possessed was the ability to
see all the energies of the Earth and those of other planets in this solar system.

“As a result of this, they could choose a place in which to live that was both good and safe
for them, thus avoiding the negative energies produced by the elements and radiation from
the planets.

“Even animals have this basic instinct, for example:

•Cattle crowd in towards the hedgerow when a storm is imminent. Farmers can observe
this and sometimes benefit from this extra sensory perception of their animals.

•Salmon return to their breeding grounds, although how they do so is still largely
inexplicable.

•Swallows migrate each winter to Africa even though first timers have never been there
before.

“Before their supernatural powers became too weak, they recorded all this information so it
could be passed on to subsequent generations. Only through meditation (i.e. to still your mind
so that no thoughts arise) is it possible to re-awaken these latent supernatural powers!”
This answer really shocked me, but it also explained why people were so intelligent in
ancient times, leaving as a legacy something that was to become the I Ching.

However, the ancient Chinese were not the only ones. In India, Egypt and Mesopotamia, it
has been recorded 3000 years ago that gods from space came to Mesopotamia, leaving supe-
rior knowledge written in a language known as Sumer.

At that time, these were the world’s most culturally and scientifically advanced countries. The
most accomplished Feng-Shui Masters did not even need a Feng Shui compass. By using their
third eye, they could see the different energies, spirits and other dimensions.

9
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

Nevertheless, this story about the origins of Feng Shui is just another legend. No one can
prove who created Feng Shui, just as no one can go to the Sound & Light heaven in their
physical form, therefore your own beliefs will determine whether you believe it or not.

HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT IMPORTANT.

THE REAL ISSUE IS WHETHER THE FENG SHUI TECHNIQUES WORK.

Nowadays, many people criticise Feng Shui. These people are basing their opinions on their
own experience of Feng Shui. However, you cannot make a judgement on an art that has last-
ed over 4000 years unless you have the full picture.

The most important factor in making a judgement is to find a good consultant or Master of
Feng Shui and observe the results of several different consultations.

In any profession you have practitioners of different abilities. For example, you would not
judge the whole medical profession on the ability of one doctor, just as you would not judge
medical science on the results of one unsuccessful treatment of a patient.

Certain medicines work for some people and not others. This is the same with Feng Shui.
Some people will achieve good results and others won’t. However, you must base any judge-
ment on the complete picture - not just one isolated experience!

WHO USES FENG SHUI?

F rom ancient China to the present day, emperors, governments and businesses have all used
Feng Shui. In the past it was also used in the West, but was known as ‘Geomancy’.

In the East, most buildings of any importance are built after consulting a Feng Shui expert. In
fact many government buildings, shops, restaurants, offices, banks and even many of the
Stock Exchanges around the world are currently using Feng Shui.

After completing this Feng Shui Course you could even find yourself working on a consul-
tancy basis for some of the most successful business organisations in the world - the major
Japanese corporations who harness this system to promote harmonious working conditions
and co-operation between workers.

It is used by these corporations in the design and positioning of buildings and the co-ordina-
tion of various departments. This results in good morale, ambience, company loyalty and
improved productivity - all the things for which Japanese companies are famous. This proves
the validity of Feng Shui.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF FENG SHUI

F eng Shui has existed as a system for nearly 3000 years in China. We have already dis-
cussed how this art was created, and it was obviously practiced in one form or another
before it was documented and made into a formalised system.
After a further 2000 years Feng Shui spread to other parts of the Far East, where it continues
to flourish.

The reason why Feng Shui or Geomancy survived and flourished in China after it was origi-
nated, but perished elsewhere, is probably due to the Chinese people’s close relationship with
the land because of their dependence on farming.

The other advanced civilisations lost their connection with the land as they built larger cities.

Being reliant on the land for their livelihood meant the Chinese people’s well-being was
closely linked to Feng Shui principles and natural phenomena.
As the success of a farmer was dependent on a good site, with protection from the harsh north
winds, good relief, irrigation and without obstructions that would not allow chi to flow freely,
Feng Shui was very important to him.

However, finding a good site was not always easy and some people had to settle for less than
perfect land. It was here that a Feng Shui master was employed to suggest ways to optimise
the flow of chi.

Feng Shui was therefore used to aid a prosperous life, and was applied to both the living and
the dead.

Graveyard Feng Shui was also employed to determine the best burial sites for the deceased
- as it was believed that their own lives were affected by their dead ancestors.

This is not as far fetched as it may seem, even if you do not believe in the spirit of a person.
It can be explained scientifically by the shared chromosomes in the DNA which relatives
would have. When reduced to its simplest atomic level, DNA, like everything else in the uni-
verse, is nothing more than energy. Therefore the way that chi (energy) affected a dead ances-
tor could also affect a living relative.

Most Chinese burial sites are sited on south-facing hillsides to protect them from harsh north
winds and smooth contours to allow the chi to flow freely. Ravines, hollows, and rocky and
exposed sites are avoided.

Although Feng Shui has been practiced in China for thousands of years, many of the ancient
texts have been lost. Two of the most important surviving books are “The Burial Classics”
11
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

and “The Yellow Emperor’s Dwelling Classic”.

These two books still influence Feng Shui Masters to the present day.

One point worth noting is that although many texts have been lost, the actual knowledge is
still accessible.

We mentioned previously that through meditation, one can regain the powers of perception
that the creators of Feng Shui possessed. As Feng Shui is strongly linked to spiritual training,
there are a few Masters who have regained this lost wisdom.

Feng Shui flourished throughout the centuries in China - in particular the Ming and Sun
Dynasties.

This was the golden age of Feng Shui, with many famous Masters practising and many clas-
sic books being written during this period. At this time the Feng Shui Master, known as a
hsien-sheng, was highly respected for his knowledge that would take many years to learn.

The ancient cities during this period were built on Feng Shui principles. For example Yan
Shan - the capital during the Ming period - was situated so that it benefited from the chi flow-
ing from Kunlan. The “Azure Dragon“ was on the left and “White Tiger” on the right and
the Song Shan mountains provided protection at the back. The entire Forbidden City was also
built during the Ming Dynasty by the Emperor, and was planned and built strictly on the prin-
ciples of Feng Shui.

Over the centuries the ancient Chinese made many philosophical and scientific progressions
that led to the development and advancement of Feng Shui.

•In the twelfth century B.C. the cycle of the 5 elements (5 energies) was established.
These are the elements or energies of metal, wood, water, fire and earth. These
energies explain the alchemical reactions that give rise to the creative and destructive
processes of the universe.

•In the second century A.D., the Chinese established an astronomical and astrological
system including all the planets of the solar system and the major stellar constellations.

•A major development occurred in the eighth century A.D., when the Chinese
compass was invented. This was incorporated into a divination board showing various
elemental, planetary and stellar information that become known as the Luopan or Feng
Shui compass.

•The Luopan was further enhanced a hundred years later in the ninth century A.D.,
when a special compass was created for positioning burial sites for Graveyard Feng
Shui.
12
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

•In the twelfth century A.D., other correspondences were added, so that the compass
could be used for the positioning of houses. This became known as Living
Environment Feng Shui.

Today, a Feng Shui Master is likely to look like any professional businessman, wearing a suit
and tie, and often commanding a high fee for his services. However, his knowledge is still to
be highly regarded and is just as valuable now as it ever was.

SYMBOLISM IN FENG SHUI

S ymbols are used extensively in Feng Shui, none more so than that of the dragon. This
mythical animal is the symbol of heaven, yang energy and male fertility. In Feng Shui it
is used to represent mountains and hills.

Chi flowing down a hill is seen as the dragon’s blood, as are streams and rivers. Ridges on a
mountain represent the dragon’s arteries, which channel the chi.

Various rock formations are represented by other animals. These can influence an area in a
certain way based on the character of the animal in question, which could be a predator or a
protector.

Water is another source of chi which is carried over the surface of the earth. Rivers are also
symbolised by dragons.

The curves and shape of a river, as well as the direction of its flow and the positioning of a
building in relation to it, can mean the difference between disaster and success. Therefore the
water dragon needs to be under control.

THE TRUE VALUE OF FENG SHUI

T here are many factors involved in determining a person’s success in this life. Good Feng
Shui is an important element - but it is only one of several, including:

- FATE - LUCK - FENG SHUI - GOOD MERIT - HARD WORK

The most important factor other than Feng Shui is one’s luck. This is the reason why Feng
Shui Masters are not all millionaires. It is because it is not their fate to be financially suc-
cessful or because their luck has not yet come.

The chart on the following page show the results of a combination of these two factors.

13
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

LUCK FENG SHUI RESULT

Good You will be catapulted to

Good
achieve great success.

Your success will be ham-

Good Bad
pered by setbacks.

You will not have too many

Bad Good problems.

Disaster is just around the

Bad Bad corner waiting to happen.

This is something one must bear in mind and point out to potential clients. You cannot judge
a Feng Shui Master on their personal wealth! Even if they are not rich, they may still have
expert knowledge.Conversely, a rich Feng Shui Master may have just been lucky. His actual
knowledge and skills may not be very good. This is like a “Good Luck Doctor” whose patients
are all nearly better when he comes to treat them. Because of this they make a quick recovery
and his reputation as a healer becomes well known. However, it is just due to his luck or fate
that they come to him when they are nearly better.

So, finding a good Feng Shui Master is very difficult because it is something that can greatly
improve your quality of life. For this reason, to find a genuine Feng Shui Master is very
lucky. Your own fate may determine whether you find a good Master or not.

As wealth or reputation are not reliable indicators as to the ability of a Feng Shui Master, you
should look carefully at his or her character.

When you do find someone reliable, then it is worth paying that little bit extra in terms of
money and effort in arranging a consultation.

Even if the cost is more than the normal market value, you must take into consideration how
much importance you place on your health, relationships and business.

Are these things worth more than a few hundred pounds to you? If so, paying more for a gen-
uine Master is worth it, because just as Feng Shui can help you to be successful, if done badly
it can also destroy you. So seek out a genuine Master and be prepared to pay for his experi-
ence. Remember:
“One diamond is worth more than 100 stones”.

Feng Shui is not everything, but it can certainly make your life a lot easier.

YEAR 2000 FLYING STAR PREDICTIONS

A t the beginning of the year 2000, Master Wong used Flying Star Feng Shui to make predictions for the
year ahead. In this section of the book we give examples to illustrate how accurate they were.

“This is the year of the Golden Dragon - signifying that a lot of things will be changing. In Feng Shui the
no. 9 star is in the centre.

• This year will be very good for the internet/computer/electronics business. The Arts,
Education and Religion will prosper too.

• Wars will continue, and there will be rioting around the world. There will be a lot of
disasters involving fire and explosions. Some places will have flooding, others drought.

• It is advisable for people to sleep or for the position of your front door to be in the S.E. <8> / E.
<7> / & CENTRE <9> area . This will help the occupants of a household financially.

• Sleeping in a west direction will lead to constant illness, and if your house or place of work is
sitting south or north you will have a lot of conflict and trouble. The Bank of England and
politicians in Westminister will therefore face a great deal of problems.

• If you have a shop with a door facing northeast, you should be on the lookout for robbers.

•This year the Year God (Jupiter) is in the south east area. Therefore you should avoid doing
decoration that involve knocking or banging, otherwise it may cause you accidents.”

YEAR 2000 FLYING STAR PREDICTIONS - A REVIEW

To quote Master Wong:

“THIS MEANS THAT THIS YEAR WILL BE VERY GOOD FOR THE INTERNET/COM-
PUTER/ELECTRONICS BUSINESS. THE ARTS, EDUCATION AND RELIGION WILL
PROSPER TOO.”

1) BUSINESS
AOL and Time Warner have sealed their $100bn merger, after gaining final regulatory approval. The deal
will create the world's largest media company.

The AOL-Time Warner merger brings together America's largest internet service provider with some of the
best-known names in entertainment, including CNN, HBO and Warner Brothers music.

Competitors and regulators fear that the two companies together might be able to shut out competitors as
new faster cable-based internet services are rolled out. When the deal was first announced, AOL shares were
trading at $72.875, valuing the union at almost $164 billion.

(2) ARTS
Tate Modern: A great new home for art.

Tate Modern is Britain's new national museum of modern art. Housed in the former Bankside Power Station,
Tate Modern displays the Tate collection of international modern art from 1900 to the present day. Built at a
cost of £20, and free to the public, it has been a massive success. In its first week of opening Tate Modern
attracted 120,000 visitors per day, whilst the Millenium Dome, built at a cost of £750m, struggled to get even
20,000 per day.

(3) EDUCATION
Union leaders accept teachers' pay deal.

Teachers were offered a three-year pay deal, after lengthy negotiations. Teachers will also be given more pro-
fessional autonomy within their 35-hour working week. A new winding-down scheme will be introduced for
those approaching retirement, while the probationary period for new teachers will be reduced to one year.

(4) RELIGION
Largest ever religious gathering

MORE than 70 million people, the largest gathering of humanity in history, attended an Indian religious fes-
tival where hundreds of thousands of Hindu pilgrims plunged into the cold waters of the Ganges to wash
away their sins

The Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 - Pope focuses on Spiritual Quest in Search of the Trinity

In 2000, John Paul II explained Christianity's mystery of mysteries, the Holy Trinity. The year's series of
Wednesday audiences were dedicated to the exploration of this cornerstone of the faith.

The Pontiff made it very clear that this mystery is not "an arid truth confined to the intellect," but a "life that
17
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

resides in us and sustains us." It is a "mystery that infinitely surpasses us," but that at the same time is
"the reality closest to us, as the source of our being... More intimate than my most intimate," as Augustine of
Hippo said (354-430).

The Pope admitted that this was an "arduous but fascinating" quest that must be the culmination of the jour-
ney made over the last few years, which were dedicated to reflect on Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Father.
The Great Jubilee of the Year 2000 is precisely that: "the contemplation of the mystery of God."

1,000 Participate in First Jubilee of Governors and Parliamentarians

Politicians were not forgotten in the plans for the Jubilee. The Vatican stated that it understands that the men
and women who decide policy have a unique opportunity to improve life for all citizens. To celebrate the first
Jubilee of Governors and Parliamentarians the Jubilee Committee planned a special pilgrimage of prepara-
tion.

The pilgrimage began on October 26 in Bethlehem. 1,000 politicians from all over the world travelled the
length of the Mediterranean, in St.Paul's footsteps, until they arrived in Rome on November 5 for the Jubilee
in the Vatican.
Bishop Crescenzio Sepe, secretary general of the Vatican Jubilee Committee, recalled that the Holy Year must
be an opportunity to reflect on the direction of historical and social evolution and the way these can be
improved and corrected. The Bishop also mentioned the surprising interest that the world of politics has
shown in the Jubilee of Governors and Parliamentarians and hoped that this initiative would become a tradi-
tional event in future Holy Years.

(5) “THE BANK OF ENGLAND AND POLITICIANS IN WESTMINISTER WILL

THEREFORE FACE A GREAT DEAL OF PROBLEMS”.

A) THE BANK OF ENGLAND

This year saw continuing problems for the Bank of England, as its political independence from the Treasury
was again undermined by Chancellor Gordon Brown, the man who had originally granted them that supposed
autonomy. Gordon Brown continued his policy of selling the Bank’s gold reserves at low prices, supposedly
to help alleviate the debt of the developing world. Much of the gold has been replaced with holdings in for-
eign currency.

There was a great deal of media speculation that this activity was really a pre-cursor to joining the European
Monetary Union. Most members have already reduced their holdings, as part of their entry to ERM. ERM
members can only make reserve disposals with the permission of the European Central Bank.

The World Gold Council gave this reaction:

"The irony is that Gordon Brown, leading the charge on behalf of IMF gold sales - purportedly to assist debt
relief in poor countries - damaged the price of by proposing to sell some of the UK's reserves in advance."

"The damaging reverberations of such a symbolically-charged action by the Treasury are now being felt felt
not only in the UK, but in a number of the 41 so-called Heavily Indebted Poor Countries in Africa and else-
where."

"With each $1 drop in the price of an ounce of gold, these developing countries suffer real economic dam-
age."
"The drop in the price of gold on Friday as a result of the UK Treasury's announcement immediately wiped
off $150 million from the annual export earnings of Sub-saharan Africa."

18
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

"The decision to sell gold and hold official UK reserves overwhelmingly in foreign currencies betrays a fail-
ure to consider the reasons why gold has always been considered an important defensive asset in the long
term."

Other Banking problems - Branch closures

Amid a wave of negative publicity, Barclays bank closed 172 branches across Britain without consultation,
leaving many customers in towns and rural areas with no local banking .

B) POLITICS
Last year the UK government had many problems, we have listed only a few of them below:

Party Funding

There were a series of embarassing funding scandals for the government last year.

Firstly a national newspaper revealed that Tony Blair's private office was financed to the tune of £500,000 in
secret donations by wealthy sponsors.

Then, early in 2001 there was more controversy for Labour when bypassed its own "anti-sleaze" laws by
banking a £2 million donation from a mystery backer, just weeks before new regulations require details of
gifts to be disclosed.

The party initially refused to disclose the name of the donor despite having pledged greater openness about
political donations, but were later forced to back down.

London and local elections

This year’s local election results were the worst for Labour since 1992. Over 500 seats were lost to the Tories
and Lib-Dems. In Labour's "heartlands" the results were catastrophic with seats that have been safe for
decades being lost.

There was also disaster for the Government in the London mayoral election. The official Labour candidate
Frank Dobson only managed to come a distant third with 12% of the first preference votes, just beating the
Lib-Dems on 11%, and far behind the Tories with 26% of the first preference votes and the winner Ken
Livingstone who got 38% of the first preference votes.

Petrol Crisis

This year saw undoubtedly the biggest crisis the current British government has so far faced in office. An 8
day blockade of fuel depots in protest at rising petrol costs brought the country to a near standstill, costing
the government millions in lost revenue. It followed a similar wave of protests across Europe.

The Millenium Dome

The Government faced a year of constant media and political pressure over its involvement in the Millenium
Dome project. The Dome was supposed to be the centrepiece of the governments millenium celebrations, but
suffered a series of setbacks and scandal, from the sacking of the Chief Executive, to the outcry over the
huge amounts of public money that the project continued to be given. Visitor numbers fell well below the
12m the attraction needed to break even. Tony Blair and Michael Heseltine, the politician who commissioned
the dome, were both forced to publicly admit that the project had been a flop.

19
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

The final controversy was over the sale of the dome and the site. Original buyers Nomura pulled out over
purported financial irregularities and lack of co-operation from government ministers. Now the Dome site is
valued at just £70m, a fraction of the £800m plus that has been spent on the project.

Repeal of Section 28

The government suffered a series of heavy defeats in the House of Lords over plans to reverse laws banning
local authorities from promoting homosexuality. They eventually invoked the little use Parliament Act, pre-
viously used only in times of extreme emergency, to force the change in law.
A handful of Labour peers also rebelled against a government whip to oppose repeal of the clause, which set
Downing Street on a collision course with church leaders and family campaigners.

Balkans war syndrome health problems

It emerged that twelve British troops who served in the former Yugoslavia plan to sue the Ministry of Defence
after suffering "Balkans war syndrome" health problems such as cancer, neurological and immune system
defects and reproductive system damage. A report in the Sunday Times newspaper said doctors had linked
the symptoms to exposure to depleted uranium in anti-tank missiles used during the conflict.

Northern Ireland Peace Process

Little progress was made in the Northern Ireland peace talks in 2000, with the overall situation becoming
even more tense. The situation reached a stalemate with the British Government at odds with the IRA over
the issue of the decomissioning of arms.

Mounting problems for the National Health Service

The NHS was under severe pressure this year with waiting lists growing ever longer, staff shortages, and a
series of scandals leading to concerns over standards.

Baby organ scandal

The latest in a series of scandals involving human organs erupted as Health secretary Alan Milburn ordered
an urgent inquiry into allegations that hospital staff were ordered to dump a stockpile of organs from dead
babies and adults. NHS workers at King's Mill Centre in Nottinghamshire say they were told to throw foe-
tuses, babies' brains, hearts and other vital organs into clinical waste bags for disposal.

(6) NATURAL DISASTERS

To quote Master Wong,

”WARS WILL CONTINUE, AND THERE WILL BE RIOTING AROUND THE WORLD.
THERE WILL BE A LOT OF DISASTERS INVOLVING FIRE AND EXPLOSIONS.
SOME PLACES WILL HAVE FLOODING, OTHERS DROUGHT.”
Of course there will always be wars and natural disasters in different parts of the world. However, the type
of disaster that will occur each year is not so easy to forecast. We have included a summary of the natural
disasters that took place in the year 2000. I am sure you will be amazed at the predictions that Master Wong
gave at the beginning of the year which were entirely based on Flying Star Feng Shui.

Significant Global Weather and Climate Events for 2000

January 2000
Numerous snowstorms hit parts of northern and central China during the month across the provinces of
Qinghai, Inner Mongolia and Xingiang. News reports indicate that several hundred thousand people were
affected and over one million livestock perished. Direct economic loss was reported at 24 million U.S. dol-
lars. Flooding and landslides associated with heavy rainfall during the first week of January hit southwestern
Brazil, causing 28 fatalities and displacing some 39,000 people.

Severe cold affected parts of India during the month--nearly 300 people died from the cold, mainly in east-
central India near the Nepal border. A snowstorm also affected the east coast of the U.S. during the month
and shut down airports, closed the federal government, and left hundreds of thousands temporarily without
power. Record snowfalls were reported in several areas, including the 20.3 inches of snow at the Raleigh-
Durham Airport in North Carolina.

February 2000
Tornadoes ripped through southwest Georgia shortly after midnight on the 14th, killing 19 people and injur-
ing more than 100. The town of Camilla, GA in Mitchell County was the hardest hit area. Insured losses were
estimated to be $25 million. Tropical systems caused deadly flooding rains in Mozambique, Botswana, South
Africa, and Swaziland during the months of February and March 2000.

Media reports indicate that this was the worst flooding across southern Africa in nearly 50 years, with esti-
mates of several thousand deaths. In Mongolia, where temperatures were 4 degrees below the long term aver-
age for the December 1999-February 2000 period, heavy snow and severe cold killed more than three mil-
lion livestock.

March 2000
During spring 2000, China experienced frequent dust storms. Twelve sand and dust storms affected northern
China in the spring period, with eight of these storms affecting Beijing, China. Flooding continued in
Mozambique, with one location reporting over 55 inches of rainfall during February through March. In
Botswana, 60,000 people were left homeless by floods caused by four weeks of heavy rain. Tornadoes and
severe storms moved across Fort Worth, Texas on March 28, resulting in five deaths and over $450 million
in damages. One of the fatalities was the result of large hail.

April 2000
Hot and dry conditions spread from parts of the Middle East across the Indian subcontinent with drought con-
ditions across parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and India. Media reports indicate that a heat wave adverse-
ly affected the many people made homeless by last year's October cyclone in India. The lack of shelter and
poor quality of temporary housing made it difficult for people to escape the heat. Drought conditions, or pro-
longed periods of dryness leading to crop failure,
occurred in 11 of India's 25 states affecting 80 million people, mostly in the northern half of India. The
national government warned that food grain production would drop by up to 30 percent, and oil seed crops
would be cut in half in some of the hardest hit areas. Also, flooding due to heavy rains over the late winter
and early spring hit Hungary for the second year in a row. The Hungarian government declared parts of east-
ern Hungary a disaster area with flooding occurring along the Tisza river.

May 2000
The Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (GFDRE) estimated that 8 million people
were affected by the drought, primarily in the southern and southeastern portions of the country. The failure
of the secondary harvest, or belg season, affected as many as 10 million people. Also, firefighters struggled
to hold the line against fires whipped by furious winds that raced through 400 homes in New Mexico in the
United States.

21
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

June 2000
Flooding and mudslides caused much damage and loss of life in Central and South America in early June.
Thirteen people died in Guatemala due to torrential rains which triggered mudslides across the northern part
of the country. Floods also hit central Mexico in the Mexico City area, where five people died east of Mexico
City in the Chalco Valley area. A drought spreading across north China left at least 3.2 million people short
of water, brought out swarms of locusts, and threatened hundreds of thousands of farmers with economic
ruin. Also, in west central China in Qinghai province on the northern Tibetan plateau, government reports
indicated that 1.2 million people were affected by drought.

July 2000
A ridge of high pressure from Saharan Africa brought a scorching heat wave to southeast Europe breaking
century-old records in early July. The heat wave claimed at least twelve lives across the region. Temperatures
reached as high as 111 degrees F (43.9C) in locations across Turkey, Greece, Romania, and Italy. The hottest
station was in south central Bulgaria with a temperature of 113 F (45.0 C). Greece suffered hundreds of fires
as a result of the heat and the dry weather, with Samos Island reporting one-fifthof the island burned. It was
also quite hot and dry in parts of the south central U.S. and into the western states. A heat wave blanketed the
southern United States, with many states suffering from 1-2 weeks of 100+ temperatures. A strong tornado,
unusually strong for Canada, struck a campsite in Alberta on July 14, killing 11 people.

August 2000
Super Typhoon Billis crossed Taiwan and China during the month. The storm caused loss of life and wide-
spread flooding in both regions. In Nepal, landslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rains killed 122 peo-
ple since the seasonal monsoon began in June. In India, heavy rain caused the Brahmaputra River and its trib-
utaries to overflow. The torrential rains left 2.5 million people homeless and killed over 300 in eastern India.
In contrast, Iraq has suffered from a severe water shortage for the last two years. This year’s drought is worse
than the 1999 drought and is believed to be the most severe drought recorded in the past 100 years.

September 2000
The western fire season across the U.S. during the April-September period burned nearly 7 million acres with
over $2 billion in damages and fire control costs. The drought and heat wave in the south-central and south-
eastern U.S. during the same period caused over $4 billion in losses to agriculture and related industries.
Flooding continued in southeast Asia.
Early monsoon rains that began in July wrought havoc along the Mekong river and its tributaries running
through Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. More than 4.5 million people were affected, most severely
in the large delta in southeastern Cambodia and southern Vietnam, where the Mekong meanders before feed-
ing into the South China Sea. The flooding was the worst in decades along the Mekong River in Cambodia
and flooding continued through October 2000.

In Italy, flooding due to a weekend of heavy rains left several hamlets isolated and caused massive floods
along the country's coastline. New flooding killed more than 700 people in eastern India and Bangladesh dur-
ing the month. Rescue workers used boats and military helicopters to help some of the millions of people
washed out of their homes by floods.

October 2000
A series of storms hit the western European continent in October, and at mid-month various media sources
reported that southeast England was suffering from its worst flooding in years. From the Rhone valley in
France to the Po valley in northern Italy, the death toll from floods and landslides reached 28, with 19 report-
ed as missing. Twenty-one deaths were confirmed in Italy, and 7 were confirmed in Switzerland. In the US,
drought conditions worsened in the southeast. Some stations in the Carolinas reported no rainfall for the
entire month. Typhoon Xangsane brought death and destruction to the Philippines in late October, and
whirled across the South China Sea into Taiwan. The storm in Taiwan left 62 dead, and officials estimate that
the storm did U.S. $2.03 billion in damage to valuable farmland and crops in Taiwan. Hurricane Keith hit

22
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

Belize, Nicaragua, and Mexico, with up to 22 inches of rain reported, and more than 30 fatalities.

November 2000
Media sources reported that Typhoon Bebinca left 24 dead and 4 missing after hitting the Philippines.
Government offices, schools and financial markets reportedly closed as flood waters inundated Manila. The
“Big Island” of Hawaii was pounded by heavy thunderstorms at the beginning of the month. Localised heavy
rains across the eastern half (windward side) of the "Big Island" of Hawaii gave Hilo 27.24 inches of rain in
a 24-hour period. The rains flooded numerous homes, forcing dozens of families to evacuate. In addition, sev-
eral landslides were reported on Hawaii Belt Highway, and schools and most businesses were closed. At least
151 people were killed by torrential rains, floods, and landslides ravaging Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia
during late November.

December 2000
Widespread heavy rains with flooding and landslides killed several hundred people in Southeast Asia in
November and December. The flooding was most severe over parts of Indonesia and the worst that region
had experienced since the 1940's. Parts of the southeastern U.S. received accumulating snow in early
December. The western areas near and along the Appalachian mountains received 1 to 7 inches of snow in
some locations, while a storm along the coast dropped up to 15 inches of snow on the coastal plain of North
Carolina. In Mongolia, early snows this season killed almost 16,000 head of livestock and forced thousands
of families to migrate to save herds from another devastating winter.

SUMMARY FOR YEAR 2000 PREDICTIONS

YEAR 2001 FLYING STAR PREDICTIONS

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SNAKE

M
any people portray the snake as having ‘evil intentions’. The snake is cold-blooded
which is the reason why it can be very cruel. At the same time the snake is very par-
ticular in whatever endeavour they undertake. With the utmost detail and careful
planning, they usually come out on top. The snake shows much determination with the will
to succeed in whatever they do. Although strong willed, the snake is also quite flexible, able
to change at any moment in order to adapt to any situation. The snake is eager to please all
sides in order to get what they want.

If you dare to stand in a snake’s path, he will most definitely not hesitate to snap back at you
with his venomous fangs. And should you continue to struggle, he would not think twice to
swallow you whole. A typical snake that has openly exemplified this type of behaviour is non
other than the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair. If you even think of stepping on a snake’s
tail, or even that of his family, he would have you charged and sentenced at the drop of a hat.

For instance, the policeman who arrested Tony Blair’s son for underage drinking recently was
himself arrested for alleged possession of drugs. It was reported in The Sunday Telegraph
(7/1/2001) that his colleagues believe that he may have been under pressure for his ‘heavy
handedness’ in arresting the Prime Minister's eldest son.

The ticket inspector who made Cherie Blair, the Prime Minister's wife, pay a £10 penalty for
travelling on a train without a ticket has been sacked. Arthur Harriott, 39, claimed in an
interview with The Sunday Telegraph (31/12/2000) that he had been victimised by
Thameslink, his employer, because his confrontation with Mrs Blair had damaged the
train company's image.

Other than being very protective of their family, snakes are true survivors. Get the better of
him and he will undoubtedly come back to prove himself right. Due to the Year God
(Jupiter’s) influence this year, year of the snake people might have a hard time, being more
prone to accidents. Snake people should therefore beware in order to prevent such occur-
rences. More than a few bad stars surround snake people this year. Snake’s should take care
of their health, as this might otherwise cause some concern. It would be advisable for snake
people to avoid any risks involved with business or gambling, especially where the stock mar-
ket is concerned. Although experiencing difficulties this year, snake people also are affected
by two lucky stars which will help to alleviate hard times.

In Flying Star Feng Shui the No. 8 star is in the centre of the grid. The element for this star
is earth which represents money. It is advisable for people not to sleep in the south west or
north east areas of their house due to the negative influence of the stars.

donation (by obligation).

MASTER WONG’S PREDICTIONS

H ere are some of Master Simon Wong's predictions for the Year of the Snake (4th-
February 2001 to 3rd February 2002):

•Businesses that have to do with the element ‘metal’ will do well, for example the gold/
silver industries & money exchanges.
•Anything that belongs to the ‘fire’ element such as computers, electronics, oil and the
internet will also be quite successful this year.
•Businesses that belong to the ‘earth’ element will prosper, for example property
development.
•Businesses that belongs to the ‘water’ element such as shipping, hotels etc. will suffer
this year.
•Businesses that belong to the ‘wood’ element such as clothing and printing will also
face hard times.
•Earthquakes and floods will be a major concern. The effects of global warming will
also contribute to this.
•Of course where there are humans living amongst one another, there will be wars.
Flying Star Feng Shui is able to tell us where these wars will take place. This year in
Africa especially there will be many wars. Countries in the east will also experience
many conflicts, for example India and Pakistan. The Middle East will also have
troubles.
•The general election will go against current Prime Minister Tony Blair this year if he
does not know how to protect himself from the Year God. He could easily lose the
election even though he appears to have the advantage over William Hague.

ABOUT CHINESE ASTROLOGY & TIME

C hinese Astrology uses many different conventions for describing time. For these to be
useful to us we need to know how to convert them into the modern timescale. For exam-
ple, The 12 Earthly Branches, shown below, are one of the methods used by the Chinese
when talking about time

In next year’s book we will give in depth explanations and translations of many Chinese
Astrology concepts, and show you the right way to use them for practical purposes.

ABOUT THE 12 ANIMAL SIGNS & THE YEAR GOD

B elow is a very common diagram that we use to find out the animal sign for a particular
year. However, it is not so widely known that the diagram also shows which animal signs
will experience the negative planetry influence of Jupiter in a particular year. This negative
influence is what we mean when talk about “being against the Year God”.

To finding the animals signs against the Year God for this year, Year of the Snake, we look
for the signs corresponding to the snake which form an imaginary “cross” on the diagram.
Directly opposite the snake is the pig. Those people born in the Year of the Pig are directly
against the Year God, which means they will get the full force of Jupiter’s negative influence.
To the sides are the monkey and the tiger. People born under these signs are slightly against
the Year God, so the negative effect is not as strong.

Important note: When checking to see which animal sign belongs to a particular year,
remember that the years correspond to the Chinese calender. The Chinese new year usually
begins around the start of february on the Western calender.

However, finding out when the signs change it is not always that simple. To be absolutely
certain you need to know Chinese Astrology. This year the new Chinese year begins on the
24th January 2001, but until February 4th, any child born will still belong to the year of the
Dragon. This is because in Chinese Astrology the 24 Solar Divisions (a measure of time) do
not always coincide exactly with the Chinese calender - “ Li ch’un ” is on 4th of the February.
Chinese Astrology tells us about the changing planetary influences, so it is this timescale that
we follow to get the correct result.

Pig people are directly against the Year God so they get the full effect of the negative influ-
ence of Jupiter and will require a talisman for protection. Being against the Year God is not
something one should dismiss lightly. In Master Wong’s experience, particularly when com-
bined with other negative astrological influences, it can be fatal. Statistically more people suf-
fer from health problems, have accidents, court cases and die when they are against the Year
God.

This year, as last year, the Year God is in the south east. Therefore you should avoid doing
decorating that involves knocking or banging, otherwise you may have an accident. Anyone
against the Year God should go to their nearest temple and put their name on the Year God
shrine. This is the traditional Chinese way of reducing the negative influence of the planet
Jupiter and at the same time offering yourself greater spiritual protection. As mentioned, those
directly against the Year God will also require a talisman to carry with them.

If your local temple doesn't have a shrine for the Year God, send your name and a donation
to our temple, Jen Wai Tong. We would be able to help you because we have the Year God
shrine. When doing this a donation is offered to pay your respects to the Buddha for giving
you protection.

Even when you are on the Year God shrine and have a talisman, don’t expect that you will
have no problems. You should try not to rush whenever possible, and not to take any unnec-
essary risks. However it is worth remembering that without this protection those problems
would have been a lot worse. For example it might mean the difference between being hit by
a bus or being hit by a bicycle!

CHINESE CUSTOMS TO IMPROVE YOUR LUCK FOR THE YEAR 2001

1) Changing the Year God

On The 24th December according to the Chinese Calender (18th Jan 2001 according to the
western calender) the Year God (Jupiter) needs to be changed. The best time to do this will
be between 9.00 am -1.00 pm.

2) Clean and decorate the house

The 28th December is the most suitable time to clean and decorate your house according to
the Chinese Calender (22th Jan 2001 according to the western calender). The best time to do
this will be between 3.00 pm- 7.00 pm.

3) Thank the Kitchen God

A suitable time to thank the Kitchen God is on the 18th December according to the Chinese
Calender (24th Jan 2000 according to the western calender). The best time to do this will be
between 1am-5am.

There is a legend that the Kitchen God is from the Jade Emperor. He comes down on the 18th
December to peoples houses and checks on what things they are doing. It is his job subse-
quently to report back to the Jade Emperor on the 24th December when their punishment or
reward will be decided. If they do good things, they will get a reward, if they do bad things,
they will get punished.

These are the offerings for the Kitchen God :

a) 3 amber incense sticks
b) 2 red candles
c) 3 small cups of chinese tea
d) 3 small cups of rice wine
e) 1 pair of chopsticks
f) 8 fruits (Eg. 8 oranges, 8 apples, 4 apples or 4 pears etc)
g) 8 sweets
h) vegetarian dish of fried vegetables
i) spiritual money paper
j) 8 mochi (glutinous rice cakes), plain or with sweet fillings. These are offered to the
Kitchen God so that when he tastes the sweet cake, he will say some sweet things about
the family to the Jade Emperor. (This sounds a little bit like a bribe!)

This is the order for the ceremony of making offerings to the Kitchen God:
a) set up a small shrine for the Kitchen God in the kitchen
b) put the offerings in front of the small shrine
30
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

c) light the 2 red candles

d) light the amber incense and put them in the incense holder
e) visualise the offerings multiplying to fill up the whole sky
f) place your hands palms together and make a number of wishes eg. for the
business to be successful, good relationships, good health, no accidents whatsoever etc.
g) burn the money paper

That is the end of the ceremony.

4) Inviting the Money God into your home

The Chinese Custom of inviting the Money God into your home can be done in order to bring
prosperity and luck into the household.

•The Money God is in the west and the Good News God is in the south.
•To bring money and good luck for the year of the Snake you can walk towards the west
and south directions between 01.00 and 05.00 or 11.00 and 13.00 on 24th January.
•Depending whether it’s good luck or money you require, you can do either or both.
•Afterwards you should go to the nearest temple to light the first incense of the year.

Last year many of Master Wong’s western students tried the Chinese custom of inviting the
Money God into the home to see if its effect would make any difference on their financial sit-
uations. They all agreed that their financial situations were definitely improved as a result of
it. Inviting the Money God into your home is based on Flying Star Feng Shui and is purely
scientific, relating to the influence of planetary radiation, whereas thanking the Kitchen God
is a Chinese tradition and holds the belief that good luck will result from the offerings made.
Thanking the Kitchen God is not based on science, however a positive effect can still be seen
if one believes. This can be rationalised using psychology. Various western superstitions work
in the same way. For instance hanging a horse shoe above your door will bring good luck or
finding a four leaved clover gives good luck.

It is important to realise the difference between science and psychology. Feng Shui is purely
scientific, however a positive mind can also increase the good effects of Feng Shui. Even if
people live in a place with good Feng Shui, if they are always thinking negative thoughts they
will still cause themselves problems .

HOW TO USE FENG SHUI ORNAMENTS TO MINIMISE

DAMAGE AND INCREASE POSITIVE ENERGY
In traditional Chinese Feng Shui teaching, they concentrate on a few main points:

• the location of the front door, bedroom & kitchen

• the productive and destructive cycles of the five elements

It is this second point that many modern books and teachers either gloss over or miss com-
pletely. However, it is absolutely vital to using Feng Shui in a practical way. Once you under-
stand how the productive and destructive cycles work, and how to use them, you’ll be able to
greatly influence the effects of the Feng Shui in your own environment.

The Five Elements are: Fire, Earth, Water, Metal & Wood.

The Productive Cycle of the 5 Elements:

Fire produces carbon, which is the basis of earth. Earth generates and yields metal. When
metal is heated it melts and therefore creates liquid or water. Water promotes plant growth
and thereby creates wood. Wood burns to produce fire.

The Destructive Cycle of the 5 Elements:

Wood in the form of plants depletes the soil of nutrients thereby destroying earth. Earth
absorbs water. Water extinguishes fire. Fire melts metal. Metal destroys wood by cutting it.

When we use Feng Shui ornaments, we do so in accordance with the productive and destruc-
tive cycles of the 5 elements. Through this method we can use the ornaments to enhance the
energy of the good areas or absorb the energy of the bad areas.

For example, to enhance the positive energy of a good star whose element is fire, we could
use some green dragons. Green represents wood, and as we know from the productive cycle
of the 5 elements, wood produces (helps) fire.

To minimise the negative effects of a bad star you can use the destructive cycle to destroy the
problem element, or you can use the productive cycle to help strengthen the element that is
being destroyed. Taking the wrong approach can cause negative effects, so before you can use
this method you really need to have a deeper understanding of Feng Shui to recognise which
is the correct method.

Although we generally use traditional Chinese Feng Shui ornaments, if you have a thorough
understanding of the science behind it you can create your own!

gestions for what you can do to enhance the good areas and minimise the bad. Most of

ARTICLE:
(written1997 By Master Simon Wong & Desmond Williams)

THE EMERGENCE OF FENG SHUI IN THE WESTERN WORLD

WHAT IS FENG SHUI?

F
eng Shui (similar to geomancy in the West) is a way of controlling the magnetic flow in the environ-
ment to increase your energy, fortune and well being. Many people have heard of this ancient art, but
they don’t know exactly what Feng Shui is. In Chinese, Feng Shui means “Wind” and “Water”. The
reason it is called Wind and Water is because energy is created by water when it evaporates. The scientific
explanation of this is that, as a substance, in this case water, changes from liquid to vapour, it goes through
a chemical reaction at a molecular level generating and releasing energy. This energy is chi. The ancient
Chinese knew this centuries before it was discovered by modern science.
The way chi is destroyed by wind is more straightforward. The wind simply blows the chi away, moving it
from one place to another. If an area is affected by strong winds, then it will have very bad Feng Shui
because the chi will be unable to settle. Therefore, the area will not benefit from any chi available.
If we know how to manipulate the interaction of airflow (wind) and water (water vapour) we will know
how to make our lives more balanced. This is not a “new age” spiritual fashion accessory, but an extreme-
ly advanced method of enhancing the individual’s well being for peace of mind. However, this can only be
achieved if it is practiced properly.

Feng Shui can be utilised for good or bad purposes according to the practitioner’s intention. Most peo-
ple use Feng Shui to improve their relationships, health, financial situations, and to harmonise their
lives. However, governments, businesses and those in major positions of power use Feng Shui to assure
their longevity as well as to destroy their opponents with confrontational design. This is a political and
business use of Feng Shui and the reason why TRUE Masters will only pass their knowledge directly to stu-
dents of good character. This makes one realise that the many so called "experts" proliferating today are
merely scratching the surface of an ancient culture that goes back 5000 years. Such people do not truly rep-
resent ‘The ancient science of Feng Shui’.

FENG SHUI AND LOGIC

T he lack of understanding of this art, which is based on sound scientific principles, is dangerous to both
the practitioner and client if misused. Feng Shui cannot be “imaginatively” interpreted, as so many
recent advocates attempt to do. There are specific (absolute) mathematical formulae that never change
which are based on the Chinese Taoist origin of the universe. They should therefore be followed accu-
rately in order for the Feng Shui to work effectively. The misunderstood "Zen Master" mentality towards
Feng Shui all too often produces new age mavericks. With an egotistical attitude to this ancient system,
Feng Shui is then treated in the same way as geomantic traditions of other cultures. Although these cul-
tures may bear similarities this is not necessarily Feng Shui. It is both confusing and misleading to Western
practitioners seeking the real essence and meaning of Feng Shui.

54
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

The best way to explain the logic of Feng Shui is in using mathematics and numerology.
• 0 represents emptiness;
• 1 represents the universe;
• 2 represents the energies of Yin & Yang.
Yin is represented by even numbers, while odd numbers represent Yang.
Two things cannot function on their own - they need a third as medium to make them practical. For instance,
two bricks are no use without cement.

• 3 is therefore the creative process. Other examples are found in religion. In Christianity one has the
Holy Trinity - the 3 forces of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
In Buddhism one has the Dharma Body, Transformation Body and Incarnation Body.

• 4 represents the four directions and is shown on the Tai Chi symbol as the yin and yang, each with a
small white dot of the opposite colour inside. This one Tai Chi symbol is comprised of 4 discrete parts.

For practical purposes, we can look to the human body and see that the male contains elements of the female-
eg. the flat chest (a passive yin characteristic), and the female element of the male - breasts, - which are pro-
jecting and therefore of a yang nature.

In our personalities too, we all have characteristics of the opposite sex to a greater or lesser degree.

• 5 represents the centre.

• 6 is explained below:
• 6 represents the lowest level of Yin energy and this is why “666” is used to represent the devil in

Energy flows down to its lowest level in a spiral from right to left. This movement of

6 energy resembles a “6” .

the Bible.

• 7 represents the solar system. The Sun, Moon and the 5 element planets: Mercury (Water); Venus
(Metal); Mars (Fire); Jupiter (Wood); Saturn (Earth). In ancient times they only knew of these 7
planets. Neptune, Uranus and Pluto were discovered more recently.

7 also represents completion. In the Bible, God created the Earth in 6 days, then rested on the 7th. In
Buddhism, when someone is dying, if they chant the name of Amitabha Buddha for 7 days, then Amitabha
Buddha will take their spirit to the Western Paradise.
8

• 8 represents the Pa Qua or 8 directions and when it is turned sideways it is the symbol for
infinity.

• 9 represents the highest level of Yang as explained below:

6 Energy flows up to its highest level in a spiral from left to right. This movement
of energy resembles a “9” .

In ancient China, 9 and 5 were used to represent the Emperor. 5 is the centre and 9 is the highest level.

55
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

• 10 represents the complete cycle and the return to 0 (Emptiness). 1 is next to it, which means that
the whole of the Universe is created again from 0.
Therefore, maths and numerology can explain religion and philosophy. It is a universal language. So science
and religion can work hand in hand. Feng Shui is the scientific way and uses maths to represent everything
in the universe.
In the Lok Shi, the way that numbers correspond is shown below:

• 1 Represents the direction of North; the colour is white; the element is water; the relation is the
middle son; it has the effect of moving and the body parts belong to the kidneys and the ears.

• 2 Represents the direction of South West, the colour is black, the element is earth, the relation is the
mother, it has the effect of illness and the body part belongs to the stomach.

• 3 Represents the direction of East; the colour is green; the element is wood; the relation is the
eldest son; it has the effect of conflict and the body parts belong to the liver and the legs.

• 4 Represents the direction of South East; the colour is green; the element is wood; the relation is the
eldest daughter; it has the effect of studying and the body parts belong to the breathing organs.

• 5 Represents the centre; the colour is yellow; the element is earth; it has the effect of trouble and the
body part belongs to the stomach.

• 6 Represents the direction of North West; the colour is white; the element is metal; the relation is
the father; it has the effect of power and the body part belongs to the head.

• 7 Represents the direction of West; the colour is red; the element is metal; the relation is the
youngest daughter; it has the effect of robbery and the body parts belong to the mouth and tongue.

• 8 Represents the direction of North East; the colour is white; the element is earth; the relation is the
youngest son; it has the effect of money and the body parts belong to the head and the back.

• 9 Represents the direction of South; the colour is purple; the element is fire; the relation is the
middle daughter; it has the effect of good news and the body parts belong to the eyes and the heart.

In Lok Shi we place the yearly and monthly 9 stars into the 9 sectors. So, if we know the element of the star
we can then find out both their productive and destructive nature. From this we are able to tell what will hap-
pen in the family. Of course, this is only a basic introduction to the use of the numbers.

When one gets into the more advanced levels, where the Pa Qua, Lok Shi, River Map, Chinese Astrology and
I Ching combine together, the numbers take on a much greater significance. This is why, in China, a number
of experts several thousand years ago were able to give exact details of events in the distant future, even
down to the time, place and to whom these events would take place. A number of prediction books still exist
to this day and are astonishingly accurate.

So, in Feng Shui you can use Lok Shi, River Map or I Ching calculations to find out the past, present
and future without any the use of any spiritual techniques.

G overnments and big businesses in China use Feng Shui to improve their situation; is this a trend that
the West looks set to follow? To understand the application of Feng Shui in the U.K it is easier to look
at well known examples where Feng Shui is used, such as Canary Wharf.

Everyone has heard of Canary Wharf as a prominent centrepiece to the mid 1980's building boom in the heart
of London's docklands. This was to be a new financial centre expanding out from the city, but why did this
not occur? One thing many people do not know is that the developers used Feng Shui in designing Canary
Wharf. Why, therefore, is Canary Wharf not busy? We know about Olympia and York's bankruptcy and the
lack of business generated in the area. Is it that Feng Shui does not work or are there other factors that have
not been taken into account?

When one of my students mentioned to me that the developers had used Feng Shui, I had a look for myself
for the reason behind the lack of business in the area. The building is sitting north and facing south which is
good in terms of Feng Shui, meaning that the general luck of the building will not fluctuate too greatly. In
front of the building there is a small park which attracts the chi, representing money. In Canary Wharf water
on the right (east direction) represents money and on the left (west direction) water signifies bad health and
losing money.
According to the Feng Shui chart, at this moment in time we are in the lower round 7th fortune which represents
West, so in the west London area, business will thrive and in the east London area - for example Tobacco Docks
Shopping Centre and Docklands Property - it will generally be quieter. This is because the luck of the world is
presently in the west, so the area opposite, the east, will be quiet. This is according to the Flying Star 3 Round 9
Fortune.
The height of the central building looks impressive, but it is also the tallest building in the area with nothing
of a similar height to balance and support it . In a Feng Shui way, due to its ‘isolation’, people working in
such a building have to work harder to make money.
The height of the building represents wood and the triangle on top represents fire. The water element is rep-
resented by the river Thames, which surrounds the building. This helps the wood, which in turn creates fire
through the use of the triangle. This connection of the elements creates mental activity, enhancing the intel-
ligence of those working in the building. An example of this is one of the tenants, a leading national paper,
who won an award for excellence, no doubt aided by their need to work so hard to overcome their financial
obstacles, the area and design of their surroundings.
This is all well and good. However, I found that there are still quite a few ways to improve the Feng Shui
of the building. In addition, the one major factor still not fully taken into account is that the general luck of
the area does not pick up until 2017 and reach its peak until 2084. It will then be as busy as it was from 1904-
1923 when the luck was last in the east.

This can explain the IRA bomb disaster in 1996 nearby. When the luck of an area is not there, then it will
attract all kinds of problems, the fact that this is not the first time this has happened only goes to prove this.
According to the "I CHING" of Feng Shui the area will start getting a little busier in 1995 (because the ener-
gy of the Earth started moving in to the north east - 8th fortune).

I CHING FENG SHUI

O ne thing that Feng Shui practitioners have to understand is not to confuse the I Ching Feng Shui ‘luck
of the Earth’ 2 round 8 fortune and the Flying Star Feng Shui 3 round 9 fortune. Here we talk about the
luck of the Earth moving from the west to the north east (e.g. the bridge from Clerkenwell to Holborn being
57
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

closed for a couple of years and now re-opening). East London is no longer in the worst direction but the
south west (e.g. Hammersmith bridge closing in 1995 and the area generally becoming quieter, also the
IRA’s bomb attempt) is now beginning to be in the worst direction as it is opposite the best direction, the
north east.

It is important therefore to realise that it is not just the Feng Shui of Canary Wharf that affects how busy it
is, but also the surrounding area. With an understanding of Feng Shui, the planners would not have become
involved in the area until they knew when the luck of the area was returning.

The science of Feng Shui is obviously invaluable to property developers, planners, estate agents and busi-
nesses in general, always seeking the best areas in which to invest and the worst areas to avoid. It is also
important that the architects designing the buildings have a good understanding of Feng Shui in order to ben-
efit the future occupiers of the building and themselves. Bad designs cause bad luck for both the design-
er and the occupant, as the tower blocks of the 1960s illustrate.

TAOISM, BUDDHISM AND MODERN PHYSICS

F rom Feng Shui, we know that energy is changing all the time, therefore everything in the world changes
too. Everyone wants to have something that can last forever such as the desire for eternal life, beauty,
power, love or everlasting wealth.

Somehow, this idea cannot be successful. However, in I Ching Feng Shui, a building can still be designed
that is busy all the time and not effected by the changing of energy, if you know the secret.

Some clients have asked me: “Can Feng Shui make me happy?” to which I laugh and tell them, “Feng Shui
can make you successful, but this doesn’t mean you will be happy.”

Happiness is a feeling and as such is always changing. Even if you are a millionaire, it does not mean you
will be happy. Conversely, if you have no money, it does not mean you will be unhappy.

If we don’t know how to deal with our own thoughts such as jealousy, greed, anger, foolishness and desire
we will never be happy. Therefore, if you want happiness, the only way to achieve it is to learn about phi-
losophy and understand the concept of ‘Emptiness’. In the whole universe there is no such thing as perma-
nence. Everything is perpetually changing and intrinsically has no substance that can be said to be ‘real’. This
is very much along the lines of modern physics as expounded by Stephen Hawking whose findings correlate
with the philosophy of both Taoism and Buddhism.
Quoting from Professor Hawking’s, A Brief History of Time, “...everything in the universe depends on
everything else in a fundamental way.” This is also in accordance with Einstein’s famous Theory of Relativity,
in which, just like yin and yang, equal and opposite types of energy are dependant upon each other for their
mutual existence. This is, however, only applicable at a certain level of reality, the level at which one under-
stands the physical nature of reality. This is just that, physical. As such, even this is not the final stage- the
absolute nature of reality and the entire universe is simply that it is, from the very beginning, completely
Empty, entirely without substance. How did we arrive at this startling conclusion? The simple answer is that
everything is impermanent, everything can change and as such has no intrinsic reality.
Stephen Hawking is searching for the Truth and is already getting quite close. In my book, The Ultimate
Guide to 8 Mansions Feng Shui, I briefly explain how the ‘Wu Chi’ (Emptiness) creates two types of chi
(energy). When these 2 types of energy, yin and yang, move, this is Tai Chi.
We are grateful to Hawking, Einstein and their colleagues for using modern science to explain the old
58
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

Taoist and Buddhist philosophy in a new scientific way.

It proves that we can arrive at the same understanding of the universe in 2 ways, intuitively and mathemati-
cally. Actually, both intuition (body) and mathematics (mind) are one. Emptiness is the only Truth in the
whole Universe. (The past, present and future always change.)

This is a completely different approach to Feng Shui, which deals with the physical reality, whereas happi-
ness is related to your mental condition. When we achieve both, yin and yang in balance, just like the Tai Chi
sign, we can live in peace and harmony.

SOME IMPORTANT BUILDINGS IN LONDON

I n the Western world, do people practice Feng Shui? I can give you the answer, and that is Yes! The English
have also been practising it for centuries. It is no coincidence that the buildings of major importance hap-
pen to be on a north/south axis. Why, you might ask, on a north/south axis? I will explain this later.

Scotland Yard: Scotland Yard sits north facing south with a cleverly designed front entrance which one
enters from the east and west through side doors. This attracts the chi from 4 directions, which enables them
to control the crime across the whole country.
The only problem is the corner shop across from the entrance, which blocks the site, causing a lot of prob-
lems. It visually cuts into the reception area, disrupting their activities and causing them to have a hard time.

Lloyds: Lloyds Insurance has also been designed on a north/south axis. The building has inconsistent door
directions due to the use of three entrances, which causes them a lot of trouble. The main problem howev-
er, is the stairs on the right entering the spiral walkway on the left. This represents money coming in and
going back out past the front entrance, which acts like a mouth grabbing for food that it cannot reach. The
lift access, opposite the entrance, blocks the chi coming into the main entrance, making it hard to find money,
effectively suffocating business activity.

The building is longer on the left than on the right, which represents the green dragon, meaning that the male
energy is stronger. Allied to this is the building opposite which blocks the light to the entrance because of its
height, magnifying the problem. The only benefit to the building is the square opposite, which has the poten-
tial to facilitate prosperity, but only if you understand Feng Shui.

MI6: The New Age architects of this century generally do not follow the geomantic traditions of our ances-
tors who understood the value of good alignment.

This can be demonstrated with the new MI6 building that faces the south east. They have recently departed
from cold war espionage to join the police in internal crime fighting, dealing with domestic issues such as
housing benefit fraud and the revelations about spying in Russia. So, although the building may look strange-
ly fashionable, they have unwittingly Feng Shui'd themselves out of a job, to be relegated to just another
police department. Does this have anything to do with Feng Shui or is it just another coincidence?

GRAVEYARD FENG SHUI

I n ancient China, emperors, kings, generals and any figures trying to promote themselves would use grave-
yard Feng Shui to improve their situation, and if necessary, to destroy their opponents.

Graveyard Feng Shui relates to the positioning of the graves of our ancestors. Because there is a genetic link
(created by DNA) between parents and their offspring, any positive or negative energy affecting the burial
site will have a corresponding beneficial or adverse affect on the future generations of that family. Therefore,
59
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

placing their relative’s graves in the most auspicious position was of paramount importance, and desecrating
the graves of one’s enemies’ ancestors was common practice.

It may surprise you to think people believed in and used Feng Shui then and even more amazing that they
still do. Nothing has changed, and governments and major businesses still use exactly the same tactics, only
now it is in the international arena of politics and business.

In Hong Kong, businessmen pay large amounts of money to correct their Feng Shui. Some of my friends told
me that the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank paid £50,000 for a Feng Shui expert to correct its Feng Shui. This is
very common practice in Hong Kong to improve business. Although many people disbelieve Feng Shui, there
are also those who feign disbelief but secretly use it to destroy their opponents. After the handover of Hong
Kong in June 1997 people are talking about and becoming increasingly aware of the role of Feng Shui in the
home and business.

FENG SHUI CONFRONTATION - BANK OF CHINA

A n example of this is the aggressive design of the Bank of China, against the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank
and Standard Charter (which represents British trade in Hong Kong). The design incorporates mirrors to
flash light at the nearest buildings, interfering with the occupants’ health, business potential and power. The
top of the Bank of China is designed like a triangle, which represents their ruthlessness in business through
greater financial resources from the Chinese government. Visually, from a long distance, it looks like a dag-
ger cutting into the heart of Hong Kong, and that is exactly what it is.

The Bank of China is built on the right hand side of the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank and Standard Charter
(the right being the White Tiger side). This negatively affects the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank and Standard
Charter by isolating them in business and making it less likely for people to help them. Although they
designed part of their roof top structure to look like two cannons to fight back, this still makes very little dif-
ference. An analogy would be like a person trying to defend themselves with two small chopsticks against
a giant axe.

The most important point about the triangle of the Bank of China is that it is facing the Hong Kong
Governor’s building, which represented the political, financial and economic power of Hong Kong. By doing
this, the Bank of China aimed to destroy the centre of Hong Kong’s power. However, in an attempt to defend
himself, the Governor employed the services of a Feng Shui Master and grew trees between his residence and
the Bank of China. At a basic level of Feng Shui this makes sense as it provides a physical barrier against the
power directed against them. Unfortunately, that Feng Shui Master forgot that different symbols represent
different elements. For example, a rectangle represents wood, a square represents Earth and a triangle repre-
sents fire. Anyone who has learned Feng Shui should know about the 5 Elements (5 Energies). Earth creates
metal; metal creates water; water creates wood; wood creates fire and fire creates earth. Therefore, the tri-
angle of the bank of China represents fire and the trees represent wood. This means that growing the trees
will actually increase the power of the triangle in the same way that wood kindles a fire.

SMOOTH HONG KONG HANDOVER

Isaid that the way for the Hong Kong Government to protect themselves was to use the earth element to re-
direct the power, or water to destroy it. However, this was not to be and Hong Kong peacefully reverted to
China in June 1997. This was a positive use of Feng Shui (from the Chinese Government’s point of view) to
weaken the British position resulting in a smooth handover with no real trouble.

60
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

The Governor of Hong Kong had the chance to change the situation and avoid any negative consequences,
but it was no longer important. Although they employed the services of a Feng Shui Master at the time, they
were still unable to help themselves. We have to conclude therefore that this was down to fate, that the power
in Hong Kong was destined to go to China and that there was nothing that the British Government could do.

In February 1997 for a CNE Feng Shui programme, I used Chinese astrology and Feng Shui to predict a
smooth Hong Kong handover. This has come true and this was a very peaceful handover. Hence the reason
why Government House is now a museum!

WHAT DO EASTERN AND WESTERN GOVERNMENTS HAVE IN COMMON?

I n present day China, all the palaces and important government buildings that still exist from ancient China
are built on a north/south axis. This means the buildings follow the natural magnetic flow of the earth, so
when the planets influence the magnetic field in another direction, the north/south position is still not affect-
ed too much. When it comes back to a north/south direction, they will be firm in their power.

The Feng Shui is changing all the time, following a set routine. Only if you know “I Ching” Feng Shui can
you build in the best direction that will make the building busy all the time. Of course, this higher secret is
only known to the top Masters.

It is no coincidence that the Houses of Parliament, Downing Street and the Bank of England have all been
positioned to maximise their situations. Both the English and Chinese governments have used Feng Shui to
control their people, and at the same time claim ignorance of its existence and what it is used for. And who
can blame them? Businessmen use the same trick as governments in pretending not to believe in Feng Shui,
but are actually doing the complete opposite.

WESTERN HYPOCRISY TOWARDS FENG SHUI

S o do Western people believe in Feng Shui? Yes and no, it is still very much a so-so option. The Chinese
have always believed in its benefits, using ‘Living Environment Feng Shui’ to determine the best site for
their homes, places of work or business and the best system of design for interior decorating to create the
most favourable environments for business, good health and relationships.
In regards to businesses such as the stock exchange my experience has shown me that people only half
believe it. However, when they follow Feng Shui instructions the difference between making and losing
money is apparent. With one company, the boss of a particular branch believes in its benefits as he has been
working in Hong Kong for years, but those in charge in another branch of the company do not. Therefore
they will lose billions of pounds until they follow the instructions.
An incident from my own experience was with a firm of stockbrokers who vastly understated the size of their
office on the telephone, and when I came to check the direction they disputed it. At the end of the consulta-
tion, they said they did not believe in Feng Shui anymore, after believing it earlier and having listened to my
advice.
I told them that if they did not care to regard my advice they did not have to pay, to which they replied with
a 'donation' of 5% of the true asking price.
This was very ‘generous’ and I laughed when I later saw one of their employees frantically running around
Chinatown with bamboo shoots under his arm. So obviously they do believe in Feng Shui, but pretend that they
don't. Unfortunately for them I still hold the key, as they didn't give me the chance to tell them the most impor-
tant points.

61
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

In my position I see too many hypocrites. There are many businesses secretly using Feng Shui, while claim-
ing ignorance of its effectiveness and even making a mockery of it. This is because Feng Shui gives them a
huge advantage over their competitors which they want to keep, therefore the less people who use Feng Shui,
the better it is for them.
So remember, next time someone says they don't believe in Feng Shui - it could be that they don't want you
to give the subject serious consideration. However, after the handover of Hong Kong in June 1997, Feng Shui
has become far more widespread ... who knows, maybe the Bank of China has found a suitable site in London
for their next project.

As a final point, the IRA bomb in London’s Docklands acts as a grim reminder to the folly of ignoring Feng
Shui. When the luck is not there, even outside help such as the recent £32 million foreign investment into the
area cannot alter the situation. Bad Feng Shui will always attract disasters such as the IRA bomb, which
caused in excess of £150 million in damage. Follow the Feng Shui advice and you can make billions, ignore
it and lose billions. So if I were in business and always searching for the best opportunities, I would defi-
nitely follow the instructions!

THE YELLOW DRAGON CENTRE

INTRODUCTION
he Yellow Dragon Centre was founded in 1996 by Master Simon Wong. The centre was cre-

T ated to offer Westerners the opportunity to experience the true essence of a broad cross-sec-
tion of Eastern arts and philosophies so that they could benefit from these teachings in their
daily lives.

The name of Yellow Dragon was chosen to honour a meeting between a Taoist Monk (Loi Dong
Bung) and a Buddhist Master (Yellow Dragon) who shared their knowledge.

This resulted in Loi Dong Bung learning to understand compassion and the meaning of long life (to
help others), which led him to achieve enlightenment.

After this he taught his wisdom and compassion to many people, leading to a great number of them
also achieving enlightenment.

The purpose of the Yellow Dragon Centre is therefore to teach people how to achieve
Enlightenment through the Chinese arts and philosophy.

The centre is situated in the heart of London near to the Barbican Conference Centre. It consists of
a 1000 sq ft hardwood floored teaching area, with changing rooms and shower facilities.

On the next few pages are further details of these arts and services.

YELLOW DRAGON FIST KUNG FU

aster Wong created this style as a refined interweaving of the devastating power and aggres-
M sion of Southern Mantis, combined with the internal secrets of Tai Chi. It also incorporates hard
& soft Chi Gung for internal and external power development, together with Tantric Buddhism and
meditation for spiritual cultivation.

Yellow Dragon Fist strikes a perfect balance between devastating combat skills, health and the
highest levels of spiritual cultivation.

Initially, training concentrates on building speed & power, through both internal and external train-
ing, as these are the most important aspects in a fight.

From this solid foundation, you will then learn to harness the hidden powers of your mind, body and
spirit to focus as one force, mental discipline being a pre-requisite and foundation to having a bal-
anced and peaceful mind.

Finally, you will go beyond a mere fighting capacity - to achieve the ultimate goal of enlightenment.
This holistic approach is the real essence of Kung-Fu that made the ancient masters so feared and
respected.

Yellow Dragon Fist is perhaps the only system in the world to teach this REAL essence.

CHI KUNG
hi Kung is an ancient system of deep breathing exercises. Its history can be traced back over
C 3000 years to ancient China. Chi Kung exercises can be divided into 3 levels:

• Soft Style Chi Kung - can be used for health and to cure illness. Examples include Tai
Chi, Five Animals and 100 Day Chi Kung.

• Hard Style Chi Kung - can be used in the martial arts. Examples include Iron Shirt, Iron
Palm & Iron Head etc.

• Advanced Chi Kung - develops the chi, so that it can leave the body and can be used to
cure illnesses.

Master Wong is the UK representative of Omei Mountain 100 Day Chi Kung. This system con-
centrates on deep breathing, chi circulation and pressure point massage to become healthier;
develop the self renewal functions of the body and improve one’s sex life.

Using it for only 15 minutes a day will cause one’s hormone secretion to accelerate enabling you to
enjoy prolonged life and regain youthfulness.

This Chi Kung system is a much respected method of prevention & treatment for the conditions list-
ed below:

These are just a small selection. The full range of benefits would be too long to list.

64
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

TAI CHI CHUAN

ai Chi Chuan is the most famous, beneficial and effective of all the internal styles of Kung Fu.
T The style is extremely beneficial to your health, will harmonise your mind and body. It is an effec-
tive system of self defence that does not rely on brute force, but on the internal energy known as chi.
It is therefore equally effective for men and women.

Tai Chi Chuan means "Supreme Ultimate Boxing". It is a set of exercises developed by Chang San
Fung around 960 - 1126 A.D to bring the body, mind & spirit together. He incorporated a system of
deep breathing with the Shaolin techniques of marrow washing and sinew changing, based on
Taoist principles. He developed a style beneficial to health and which could protect a practitioner in
combat. However, the real purpose of Tai Chi was to achieve enlightenment. Most Tai Chi Masters
now break down Tai Chi into its component parts for health and exercise, forgetting its origins.

Master Chu Kim-Hing is Master Wong’s Tai Chi master. Master Chu learned from Grandmaster
Yang Sow-Chun, from whom the Yang style of Tai Chi originates.

This corruption of the art of Tai Chi Chuan began in the Ching Dynasty. Many Tai Chi Masters
stopped teaching the fighting aspect of Tai Chi in light of weapons advances around this period,
and began to consider the health aspects as being more beneficial to the Tai Chi practitioner.
Unfortunately, a little knowledge or an incomplete style can be a dangerous thing, particularly in Tai
Chi or indeed any of the martial arts.

It is now very rare to find a Master teaching Tai Chi Chuan for fighting and virtually unheard of to
find a Tai Chi Master who combines the additional element of spiritual cultivation into the Tai Chi
syllabus. Sifu Simon Wong is such a Tai Chi Master.

PRAYING MANTIS KUNG FU

outhern Praying Mantis systems are a much respected style of Kung Fu - designed to inflict
S maximum damage on an opponent.

This style uses a strong stance from which to defend against aggressive attacks. The wrists are
used to manipulate the opponent's attack and force an opening in their defence. This allows for a
lethal and devastating counter attack targeted to vital points of the body, destroying nerves, organs
and breaking bones - effectively rendering the opponent defenceless.

Master Wong is the 7th Generation of Bamboo Forest Temple Mantis. This style of southern man-
tis Kung-Fu is purely for street fighting, and is not designed to create the look of a bodybuilder. It
is a dangerous and cruel Kung Fu combat system, relying on internal power and external tough-
ness, which is developed by training and refining the required muscle, bones and power areas in
order to achieve the necessary results in every technique.

Mantis power originates from Tan Ging, also known as ‘spring power’. It allows immediate release
of previously restrained energy in the form of an attack, released in a mere fraction of a second.
Though powerful and most effective in its own right, this form of spring power is quite basic com-
pared to the Bamboo Forest Temple's own form, which is known as Kin Tan Ging or The Ultimate
Power Of The Mantis.

Until recently, Bamboo Forest Temple Southern Mantis Kung Fu was only taught and practiced by
the Chinese. However, Westerners are now presented with an opportunity to study and learn this
65
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

system. Classes are held 7 days a week at the Yellow Dragon Centre.

TANTRIC BUDDHISM, TAOISM & MEDITATION

antric Buddhism employs the most advanced methods of spiritual cultivation, concentrating on
T internal power and meditation, offering the fastest path to spiritual awakening.

However, few people realise the absolute importance of following a real Master and having the proper
spiritual lineage. The lineage is essential for the practice to be successful. It confers spiritual power
upon the student by granting the legitimate right to learn the practices. This opens up the channel for
spiritual empowerment & response.

Grandmaster Sheng-Yen Lu is a fully enlightened Living Buddha, who is the founder of the True
Buddha School which combines the teachings of Tantric Buddhism & Taoism. He has more than 4
million students around the world who have taken refuge in him, including many well known and high-
ly respected Tibetan Tulkas and Rinpoches.
Master Simon Wong is a Vajra Master belonging to the True Buddha School. He is unique in that
he is the only Master of the True Buddha School in the U.K. to teach Westerners the secrets of
Tantric Buddhism - to whom many esoteric practices were previously inaccessible.
He truly understands Emptiness and emphasises the practical application of this understanding in
everyday living, bringing out the true essence of the Buddha’s teaching - the union of Form and
Emptiness. Few people can truly understand and practice this. It is very rare to find a Master who has
reached this high level.

Master Wong is Chairman of the Jen Wai Tong (“Supreme Chapter”, the title conferred upon this cen-
tre by the Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu) in Central London, and he welcomes anyone to come to talk
with him and learn more about the Dharma. Many activities take place at the centre and everyone is
welcome to attend.

FENG SHUI
he ancient art of Feng Shui (known as Geomancy in the West) is used to maximise the energy
T of a building, through the correct layout and positioning of the interior and exterior. This will pro-
mote health and well being, financial prosperity and good relationships in the home and office.

The energy flowing all around us needs to flow freely. If a blockage is caused by an incorrectly
designed building, then the energy will stagnate, creating problems and bad fortune.

However a building with good Feng Shui will have the opposite effect, leading to higher produc-
tivity for a business and better relationships. This type of environment leads to a happy home or a
prosperous business.

Feng Shui can be divided into 2 major styles - Landscape Feng Shui and Metaphysical Feng
Shui. Landscape Feng Shui is divided into large and small variations and can affect your luck for
a long time. Metaphysical Feng Shui consists of 8 Mansions, Flying Star and I Ching Feng Shui
and can affect your luck for a short time. By combining all these different styles the accuracy of the
consultation will be increased.

Master Wong is one of the top Feng Shui Masters in Europe and is available for consultations for
both home and business.

66
Flying Star Feng Shui for 2001 Master Simon Wong

In addition to consultations, he runs regular Feng Shui training courses at the centre.

CHINESE ASTROLOGY
ccording to Chinese Astrology, in the moment you are born, the astrological alignment of the
A planets radiates a specific energy pattern which you absorb. Due to the movement of the plan-
ets, if you were born a moment later the energy pattern would have changed. From that moment
on you will be influenced by this astrological energy. When the planets are positioned to radiate that
energy, then it will be beneficial to you and you will have good luck. However, when the alignment
of the planets is bad this will have an adverse affect on you, causing you bad luck.

Chinese Astrology is also based on the I Ching (Book of Changes) and the 5 energies. The Chinese
believe the universe was created by the 5 elements (earth, wind, fire, water and emptiness) but is
controlled by the five different energies (metal, wood, water, fire & earth). The 5 energies or univer-
sal processes control these elements through interacting with each other. These energies both cre-
ate and destroy one another which can have a beneficial or adverse affect on every individual.

The energy you absorb at birth will be one of these five primary energies. If the alignment of the
planets produces an energy that can destroy your own energy then according to Chinese Astrology,
you will suffer a lot of bad luck. However if they produce an energy that creates and enhances your
own energy, then your Chinese Astrology chart will forecast a lot of good luck.

The I Ching is an explanation of how the universe works according to the influence of these univer-
sal energies. From the time, day, month and year of your birth, the Chinese Astrologer is able to find
out about the influences that will affect your whole life such as money, success, power, love, health
etc. Armed with this knowledge you will be in a far greater position to change your bad luck into good
luck, enabling you to live a happier and more successful life.

SOUL DELIVERY
hat is soul delivery?Soul Delivery is a Buddhist Ceremony that guides the spirit of the
W deceased for a favourable reincarnation or delivery to the Heavenly Pure Lands. Master
Simon Wong is one of the few Masters in Europe to combine Taoism and Tantric Buddhism to do
this.

Who needs Soul Delivery? If you have recently suffered a bereavement of a loved one, spouse,
relative, child, friend or pet, you should consider a soul delivery for their spirit. This is particularly
so with a traumatic death where the spirit is unable to rest, such as is the case with murder, sui-
cide, miscarriages, abortions, violence etc.

What are the benefits of Soul Delivery? The deceased will benefit from a Soul Delivery through
having a good rebirth or by going to the Pure Lands so they won't suffer any more. You will bene-
fit by avoiding problems caused by the spirit, and by creating good karma for yourself in this life-
time.

IF SOMEONE NEAR TO YOU HAS RECENTLY PASSED AWAY AND YOU WOULD LIKE A SOUL
DELIVERY DONE FOR THEM AT THE JEN WAI TONG TEMPLE, PLEASE CONTACT US.

I CHING
he I Ching is probably the most famous of all forms of Chinese Divination dating back approxi-
T mately 5000 years. Through the centuries it has been regarded an an Oracle par excellence, win-
ning much acclaim from the Chinese sage, Confucius and used extensively in fortune telling.

The Chinese believe everything originates from emptiness (Wu Chi). From Wu Chi, Yin and Yang
are created - negative and positive power. These two opposing forces are known as the Tai Chi. The
cyclic movement of the Tai Chi creates eight further sub divisions of energy known as the eight tri-
grams (Pa Qua). The trigrams combine with each other creating 64 hexagrams which represent the
64 types of constantly changing universal power (8 x 8 = 64).
These are all recorded in the I Ching (‘Book of Changes’) which describes the process of how the
universe works and can give you guidance on any questions that you may have.

The divination has to be performed by a Master who can harness the universal energies. Six coins
are used. Each coin represents a line in a hexagram, which can be yin or yang (positive or nega-
tive). After shaking the coins in his palms the order and orientation of the six coins will represent
one of the 64 hexagrams. This hexagram is then looked up in the I Ching and the answer to your
question will be provided, thereby telling your fortune.

Information is today's most valuable business commodity, without which no company can be suc-
cessful. The I Ching can give you the ultimate inside information and competitive advantage in
today's market place. By reducing the probability of risk, the value of this information will be 1000

DIVINATION, FORTUNE TELLING & SPIRITUAL SERVICES

ortune Sticks: This is an ancient method of divination that has been used for thousands of years
F in China. The method used to find the answers to your questions is to shake a container holding
the sticks until one stick comes out. This is done in front of the shrine to harness the spiritual power
which will guide you to select the stick that relates to your problem, thereby finding the answer or
solution. There are 100 sticks in total, each of which are numbered. When a stick is selected, the
number is checked and the explanation relating to that stick is revealed.

Palm & Face Reading: Divination from the study of the hand and face was practiced by the
Chinese as early as 3200 B.C. It is used to analyse the personal characteristics or major events
during one’s life span. The shape and physical characteristics of the hand and face will build a com-
prehensive analysis of the lives of every human being. However, your fate is not fixed. The palm
and face can change if a person’s heart (mindset) changes. Therefore by finding out your destiny
through a consultation, you are in a position to change your character to avoid any misfortune.
Remember - forewarned is forearmed.

Spiritual Consultations: If your home is haunted or you are having many problems that could be
the result of malevolent spirits, then Master Wong can use his spiritual power to exorcise or con-
trol the entities involved, bringing peace to your home once again and putting your life back to nor-
mal.

Talismans: Specially prepared Talismans prepared by a spiritual Master can be used to improve
or create health, relationships, business, finances, physical & spiritual protection and exorcism etc.
Master Wong is such a Master and offers powerful talismans charged by a Taoist ritual and

enhanced with Tantric Buddhist mantras to give the Talisman ultimate power. As the Talisman is
individually prepared you can obtain a Talisman for whatever you require.

SELF DEFENCE
n today's dangerous society, the need for self defence is an essential part of everyday life. Rising
Icrime figures -particularly those relating to violence such as assault, mugging and rape mean that if
you don't want to become just another statistic, you need to be able to defend yourself.

Unfortunately, most self defence courses being taught are outdated and impractical. What is need-
ed is a system of self defence that is effective on today's streets. A system that has been tried, test-
ed and refined in actual confrontations. We are offering such a system - one that has proved high-
ly effective in many real life situations.

The self defence system is based on the Yellow Dragon Fist Kung Fu syllabus, which was created
by Sifu Simon Wong - a 7th Degree Black Sash with the AMA - after many years martial arts and
fighting experience. The self defence syllabus incorporates the use of pressure point, joint manip-
ulation and strikes delivered to vulnerable areas of the body to incapacitate any attacker.

All these self defence techniques are simple to learn but highly effective, ensuring that they can be
applied in any self defence situation, giving you the confidence and skills to effectively defend your-
self.

The Self Defence Courses can be run at our headquarters in Central London, or for group book-
ings we can conduct the self defence training in your local area or premises.

We also run self defence courses for schools, colleges, universities, clubs, women's groups etc. at
preferential rates.

If you would like more information about our self defence courses, please contact us by in writing
or by email or phone (see last page ).
