COSTUME FOR A CULTURED MAN

Mortals, as we are, are social creatures that have many circumstances to live as well as
human being can do to fill their own needs. When a human being is need something to fill their
personal desire, they mostly getting them from the other human being. As they do socializing,
they create a set of agreement which they used to make their socializing process much easier.
Those agreements include sets forms of languages and sets of norms, and those agreements are
used by a group of human beings in one place, create a compact behavior for that group of
human beings. As the time goes by, their sets of languages, norms, and behavior roots to their
live and become a culture, which can we say that a culture are live in small local area only, just
on people below the umbrella of agreement.
A man with a culture means a man which agree to follow a set of norms and behavior
in one place and make it part of his own live. When he comes to another place, he cannot use
his own culture because the culture is somewhat different from him, which are in reason
another man in other place are having different points to be agreed. That is comes to be a
culture shock, the differences makes someone feels some bizarre hit and makes them
uncomfortably alienated. For example, when a gentleman goes to a wedding party bare chest
with only trunks, they must be get that feelings. For contrast, if a gentleman goes to beach and
having a sunbath with a formal suit, the feelings also same. For greater thinking, the social
race, belief, and class are affecting the chance of the occurrence of an uncomfortable alienating
sight from people with different culture. The nobles did not having dinner in front of TV with
plate on the floor and their cat sleeps beside, that is culture of urban society. And of course,
table manner is not for lower social class, or even not for Indonesian people, it is different
culture horizontally, as it were western culture, and vertically, as it were for us.
When the sets of norms of that culture are took over by people in charge on some place,
for any circumstances, the norms are formed into the more compact and forcing for the society
it agreed in, become a rules. That rules are forced people to behave as the people in charge
wants to and forming them to be cultured man, or in specific term, a constructed-culture. As
the time does by again, that constructed behavior are rooting to their live becoming a new
culture, without any force from people in charge.
So, what can we conclude from that is a man with a culture is only man in the right
place with a right dress code. Become a man with appropriate behavior in some place, yet also
can change it into other behavior if they leave that place to other different place.
