1 Objectives
The Deliverable #5, is the Construction Documents’ phase deliverable, and its objectives are:
1. Present the information that define the construction of the houses and its assembly
process at the Solar Hai; showing the graphic representation of the work to be done
and including all necessary details and information of its systems, materials, and
equipment.
2. Show that the project is in line with the goals of the SDME.
3. Demonstrate that the project complies with the Competition's Rules and Building
Code.
4. Update and enhance the information presented in the Deliverable #4.
All materials and documents submitted by the teams must comply with SDME 2018 Rules and
Building Code.
Content, text, and people in the technical and communication materials must comply with the
Rule 3-4 SDME Conduct and Dress Code.
3 Scope
The Deliverable #5 includes the Project Documentation #3, the Design Approval Documents
DA#1, the Simulation Input Report SIR#1, the Electric and PV Chart and Checklists PV#2, and
the Press Kit PK#4.

Deliverable #5 – Contents and criteria
The construction documents define the quantities and qualities of, and relationships among,
all materials required to construct, assemble and disassemble the houses. These documents
include all the building systems, product selection, and information necessary to guaranty the
project constructability. They must be complete and accurate enough to:

deliverable. These drawings and documents are confidential.

Teams must submit two simulation reports: Comprehensive House Performance Report and
Electrical Energy Balance Report.

Note: 1. Media types: TV, Radio, Newspaper, Magazines, Journal, and Web.
The content of the Teams’ Press Kit is public information. It might be shared through the
SDME 2018 website and social media, in addition to SDME communication efforts.
Confidential information and images must not be included in the Press Kit.
Names and logos: The team and the project may have the same or different names and logos.
Please, include the team´s name and logo, as well as the project's name and logo, if they are
different. The logo image must be included in the Press Kit document and submitted as
independent vector image file (ai or eps).

Photo(s) of Team Members: An updated group photo of all the team members must be
included with each deliverable. The images included in the Press Kit document shall also be
submitted separately as high‐resolution files.
Team mission statement: A short paragraph explaining the team’s mission statement. This
section can be revised from one deliverable to another.
The Team and its goals: The team shall provide a 100‐word description of the team and its
goals. This section will be used by the organizers for outreach and it will be placed on the Solar
Decathlon Middle East website. The content of this section can be revised form one deliverable
to another.
Current design rendmeters: Four high‐resolution architectural renderings of the house: two
exterior views and two interior views.
Team contact information: The submitted information will appear on the SDME website with
the full name of the team contact person and his (her) email and phone number.
Web pages and social media links: Include the Team Web page URL, and its social media links
(Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo, Flicker, etc.)

5 Submission Instructions
5.1 Deliverable Submission Instructions
Each team should follow the defined schedule in sending the deliverables in the stipulated
format at the specific due dates and following the guidelines of the SDME 2018 Organization.
Deliverables are considered on-time if they are received by the SDME 2018 Organization by
10:00 a.m. in Dubai (UTC/GMT +4 hours) on the respective due date. Deliverable #5 files must
be submitted electronically, via the internet.
In addition of the regular PDF files, scanned PDF copies of the signed and stamped structural
and electrical drawings and calculations must be also submitted, in compliance with the Rule
6‐1.
Teams that are not sending the deliverables on time, or not fulfilling with all the content
requirements, will be subject to penalties, refer to Rule 2‐8.
All the deliverables submitted are the property of the SDME 2018 Organization.

Multimedia Requirements
a). Vector artworks must be submitted in their original file format (ai or esp).
b). Photographs shall be submitted in the native format of the camera, such as JPEG or RAW.
c). Color photographs must be in RGB, 8-bit color.
d). Files produced in pixels, as photographs and renderings, shall be submitted in high-
resolution images (minimum 1632 pixels in shortest dimension).
e). For multimedia files to be properly credited, the following information shall be included in
each file’s metadata or a text file accompanying the multimedia files:
- Name, e-mail and affiliation of the photographer or graphic creator
- Multimedia file editor’s name and affiliation.
- For photographs, please indicate the date and location, and identification of any
individuals visible.
The deliverable will be “on time” if they are received by the Competition Manager before 10:00
a.m. Dubai time (UTC/GMT +4 hours), Wednesday, February 14, 2018.

2. In floor plans, indicate the finish floor levels and clearly indicate any change of level.
3. The north shall be indicated on all site, floor and roof plans.
4. The scale of the drawings will be selected considering the real size of the object, the level of detail that is required, and the size of
the pages (A3). Suggested scales for drawings:
- Site Plans (1:100)
- Floor Plans, Elevations, and Sections (1:50)
- Site Plan and Elevations for the Solar Envelope (1:200 or 1:100)
- Footprint and Measurable Area plans (1:100)
5. Graphic scales must be included in all scaled drawings.
6. Inside logistic: detailed process of approximation of transport vehicles, up to their arrival at the lot. These drawings shall include
the type and number of vehicles, order of entry, dimensions and load per axle of each vehicle, turn ratios, characteristics and
dimensions of the load to be transported (with the weight of all the elements), way to proceed with the unloading, etc. The lot,
accesses, loading and unloading area, elements and materials stock area and footprint of the house.
7. Assembly/ disassembly: Plan for the assembly and disassembly. It will include graphics with the assembly and disassembly phases,
work units, persons that will take part, necessary machinery, auxiliary resources, necessary timing, etc.
8. There are three main drawings that are required for the public tour. The first is PT-001 site accessibility where the pathway for
public to access the house should be shown taking to account the public area in the solar hai where the pedestrians are and the
walkable area in the team’s lot (tour route outside the house). The other is PT-101 house tour floor plan. This documents should
include the tour’s route (inside the house) where the ramp information, changes in elevation, spaces between furniture, width of the
door, gates, and corridors and any other aspect related to the accessibility. PT – 201 house tour general information indicates where
the teams’ stopping points will be for explanation.

1. Introduction
a) Description of the house envelope including its thermal and optics characteristics.
b) Passive design strategies including project geometric, shading devices, orientation of the spaces, buffer zones,
and any other strategy that could contribute to the house energy efficiency.
b) Housing unit modeling assumptions including internal gains, occupancy behavior patterns, ventilation and
comfortable temperature.
c) HVAC systems
a) Passive analysis: Simulation of house performance using only ventilation (without AC), to determining the
thermal requirements and the predicted indoor temperatures and cooling loads using only passive strategies.
Results and Discussions.
b) Active analysis: Simulation of the house performance with HVAC equipment, to determining the predicting AC
energy demand (Tint ≤ 24 ⁰C). Results and Discussions.

A report about the electrical energy balance of the household for the typical generation and consumption
conditions. It must include at least the following aspects :
1. Introduction
Description of the methodology for the estimate of the electrical production and the environmental benefits.
2. List of the electric loads (household appliances, lights, etc.) used in the household
Includes the main technical characteristics given by the manufacturer, and the estimated consumption for their
use during the Contest Week.
Necessary information about the PV system (types of modules and wiring), inverter(s), batteries, etc.
These could be commercial software or tools created by participating teams, in which case the algorithms used
must be included.

1. There are no restrictions on the simulation tools that can be used for this analysis, but all such tools should be identified.
3. For the simulations, the weather file furnished by the SDME Organization shall be used.

1. Introduction
The objective of the Site Operations Plan (SOP) is to ensure that the competition deadlines will be met, providing
a realistic, logic and safe procedures and schedules for both, assembly and disassembly of the houses. In the
developing of their SOP, the teams must take into account all of the activities, resources, needs to assemble and
disassemble their houses as well as the inspections and competition deadlines.
The SDME organization will develop the General Site Operations Plan of Dubai Solar Hai; based on the
information sent by each of the teams.
