Thailand Literature

 Siam is the old name of Thailand.


 PROSE – was used chiefly for recording history and promulgating laws. ( in
paragraph)
 Imaginative writing in lyrics, poetry, dance drama.

Chulalongkorn is a former king of Thailand.

Chulalongkorn Period

 new forms, techniques, ideas, and goals were introduced into literature.
 Year: 1868-1910
 Prince Vajiravudh- introduced western style prose drama. He encouraged
translations and adaptations of European plays. He also wrote a number of
original plays and started the movement of classical dance drama in the
direction of musical drama and opera.

Modern Thai Literature

Includes children’s literature and many forms of nonfictional prose:

 Biographies
 Essays
 Diaries
 Letters
 Memoirs
 Travel books
 Literary Criticisms

Till Hearts End

Summary:

“Till Hearts End” is a literary poem that shows different phases of life. This poem
has a marvelous meaning that makes you more faithful to your religion. It also
gives you ideas that God is here to guide us in everything we do.

1st stanza- We must not lose hope, unity is what we need to overcome different
problems in our life.

2nd stanza -We need unity to incentive harmony and peace in this world

3rd stanza – Light emblematic hope that can help us to encounter sorrow .

4th stanza- Our lives here in Earth is like a wheel, there are ups and down, but
with perseverance we can achieve our dreams.

5th stanza- Listen to the words of God for it can help you live in this world

6th stanza -Lets pay God with our faith on Him until the last breath we
can.Guidance of God is what we need to success.

Lesson Learned:

This poem can teach us how to be brave in facing problems alone. Trusting in
God is the best way to solve ones problem. Remember God is always here to
guide us to live in this world peacefully.
SYMBOLS

Interpreting symbols

Symbolism is used when an idea is difficult to describe because of its abstract


nature. It may be a word or phrase or incident that infers to one thing.

STEPS:

1. Identify the symbol.


2. Think further.
3. Associate ideas.

Gustatory- taste

Tactile- temperature, textile

Motion- movement, action

Idioms

- a word or expression whose meaning cannot be easily analyzed or understood


from its grammatical construction or from the meaning of its component parts.

VERBAL IDIOMS- idioms headed by a verb.

Skimming and scanning


reading techniques that use rapid eye movement and keywords to move quickly
through text for slightly different purposes.

Skimming- is reading rapidly in order to get a general overview of the material.

Scanning- Scanning is reading rapidly in order to find specific facts.

Participles

- verb forms used as adjectives.

- these words may have the form of past participle(-ed, -d), and present participle
(-ing).

- usually comes before the word it modifies.

(ALAM niyo nanaman kung pano magcombine diba)

Steps:

1. Know the cause and effect.


2. Know how to use the participle.

PARABLE

- usually developed around a character faced with a moral dilemma.

 Making a difficult choice.


 Fictitious, but it can narrate realistic situation.
 Brief and concise
 Religious truth
 Uses human characters.

Fable- animals or inanimate objects.
