Curriculum Topic: Listening

Lesson: What is listening?

What is the difference between hearing and listening?
What is the relativity of listening to reading?

Motivation:
Play the song “hokey pokey” and dance with your students. It can
practice their ear & body coordination by listening to the song while dancing
the steps.
Drills:
Activities/Guided:
Play the first song (Somebody That I Used To Know). Give an example
of interpretation to a part of the song. Then have the students determine the meaning of
the whole song.

Activities/Unguided:
Play the second song (Say Something). Let the students think what
the song implies.

Application:
Prepare a seatwork for the students. First, play the third song (White Winter
Hymnal). Let them hear it then make them write their interpretation in a sheet of paper.

Next, play the third song again but provide them with the song’s lyrics. Then
make them write their interpretation to the song at the back of paper they used earlier.

Assignment:
Have the student select a song that they like then give it’s meaning in 3-5
sentences (to be passed including the lyrics of the song they have chosen).

Feedback:
 If a student needs a challenge, have the student choose a song which is
difficult to understand for the class to use tomorrow to interpret its
meaning.

 If a student is having trouble with interpreting the songs, have them

choose a song which they like wherein they can relate to it. Ask the
students to try thinking out of the box whenever they are having a hard
time guessing what the song implies.
