Families of students with disabilities and students who are gifted in


Manatee County Public Schools are invited to learn about agencies and groups
in the community who can provide guidance, services, or support for their child.
Parent Workshops include a variety of topics such as:
Behavior Strategies, Gifted Topics, ADHD, Future Planning, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and much more!

PARENT WORKSHOP SESSIONS


Please join us for one or more of the following sessions:

How to Help Your Child with Anxiety


Approaches to assist with anxiety and stress, strategies for relaxation

Parenting in the 21st Century


Topics of discussion will include homework help, overscheduling, use of technology and cyberbullying

Parents as Partners for Student Success


Parents, guardians, and caregivers will gain an understanding of their role in the IEP process as defined in the
federal law. They will also become familiar with other laws and policies that govern special education, learn how
to prepare for an IEP meeting, and walk away with a list of helpful websites.

Planning for the Future


Parents, guardians, and caregivers will learn about the importance of Planning For Your Child’s Independence,
Executing Estate Planning Documents, understanding the power of a Special Needs Trust, and how to recognize if
your child needs a Guardianship or not.

Anxiety and Motivation in Gifted Teenagers


Does your gifted child suffer from anxiety or lack of motivation? Explore the causes and some remedies for the
obstacles that gifted students face as they go through middle school and high school.

Parenting Students who are Gifted: Parent Support and Self Advocacy
Ten Suggestions for Parents of Gifted Children from Dr. James Webb, author of Guiding the Gifted Child/Web
links for parent resources/Gifted Parenting Support Blogs/Knowing gifted strengths and needs for the purpose
of self-advocacy and adult advocacy for gifted programs
Practical Strategies to Manage Your Child's ADHD

Building Careers for Transition Students


Focus will be on preparing students transitioning from school to a work place with career exploration, self- advo-
cacy and community work experiences
