HISTORY

In line with the improvement of Darasa, educational sector took part in this significant
event. This said barangay high school aimed at providing education to the people of
Darasa. This is an answer to the call for increasing number of enrollees which the city
proper cannot accommodate due to high tuition fee. In addition, Darasa is too far from
the town where private schools are located. Through the effort of the Brgy . Captain
Felix Reano, Dr. Cristeto Pamplona, Mr. Lucas Silva, Mrs. Rosenda Desigano, Brgy.
Captain Neopito Castillio and Mr. Eustacio Flores the dream came true.

In the opening of school year 1979 – 1980, Darasa started to operate a Barangay High
School. It was named Bernardo High School as the first pilot Science High School in
Batangas headed by Mrs. Avelina Bandoja. Later on, It was named Bernardo Lirio
Memorial Experimental Science High School merge with Darasa Elementary School.

From 1980 – 1981. Mr. Cristeto Pamplona acted as a school principal of this institution
who enthusiastically produced valuable outputs in education and administration as well.
With the increasing number of enrollees, the school has difficulty meeting the needs of
the students. Through the help of Villa Family from Darasa, Felix Malabanan, Fermin
Villegas, Mrs. Nelia Pizarro (TIC), faculties, prepared pertinent papers. Dona Soledad
Dolor donated 835 sqm from the construction of the building. Some people like Brgy.
Capt. Alberto Corona, Ex Brgy. Capt. Neopito Castillio and the Sangguniang
Pambarangay of Darasa helped much in the realization of the project.

In 1983, Mrs. Evangelina Carpio served as assistant principal of BLMESHS. She had
done various projects which brought fame to the school. She was succeeded by Mrs.
Nelia Pizarro in 1990, who was a former teacher in English and a school paper adviser.
During her years as a school principal, she managed to bring success in the school
particularly in rending quality of education.

Another person who led the school into recognition was Mr. Ruben Calinisan Sr. who
started carriying his task in 1995. His contribution as a school principal can be seen in
the improvement of school facilities and beautification projects. In addition, matter
concerning discipline was also given priority. Finally, He left the school with the pride in
2000.

By November 2000, Mrs. Leonarda M. Borja, continued the role left by Mr. CAlinisan
being the principal of BLMESHS. Academically speaking the school reaped several
laurels as proof of administration’s and mentors’ dedication totheir tasks. During her
administrative years in Bernardo Lirio Memorial NHS, she made various in the physical
facilities of the school. DepEd Programs and projects were strictly implemented.
Welfare of the students is always a priority. Values formation is a must in BLMESHS.

Additional computers were installed to help teacher and students become globally
competitive. In addition, K-Channel and Genyo were also installed which provide
additional information to the students. At present, there are 35 functional computers
donated by the CICT and DTI.

Expansion of canteen was also given a priority to ensure that nutritious but affordable
foods will be served to the teachers and students.
When it comes to scholastic performance, the school gained recognition, with flying
colors. Outstanding regional teachers were chosen from this prestigious school.
Science and Math rooms were also regional winners. The Mini Band organize in the
year 2001 brought laurels to the school.

As the time passed and with the demands for global education, the school can no
longer meet the requirements of being a Science High School. One main reason is the
increasing number of enrolment. In addition, the school has limited facilities and
teachers. And since all the memoranda and letters which the school received were
entitled for the National High School. The eventually, was known Bernardo Lirio
Memorial National High School. Since then, all the programs were all geared towards
sustainable development of the school in aspects of physical facilities, development of
students, teachers and staff, and the enrichment of the curriculum. Most of the
graduates are now holding key position both in public and private establishments

As we go along with the public demands, the school should be aligned to meet the
demands of time. Year 2008, the retirement of Leonardo M. Borja came, she was
succeeded by Mr. Adelino B. Balbin, a former principal in Luyos National High School
where he established his good name as teachers, as well as principal. Due to his
outstanding accomplishments as school head, he was promoted to principal II due to
the retirement of the former principal.

Now the school enrollment has increased tremendously with 32 classes with only 25
academic classrooms at present. But because we are after the interest of the studentry,
the city government is not closing their eyes to the situations instead through the
Special Education Fund another two storey six classrooms will be constructed to
alleviate the shortages.

The leadership of the new principal is looking forward to make the school as a center of
excellence forever serving the nearby barangays of Tanauan City who cannot afford to
educate their children in the private sector this time of difficulty. Aiming high is not
impossible to be realize as long us every member of the faculty of the above institution
is doing their share to realize the mission and vision of the school towards performance
accountability with the full support of the community as an ecosystem with shared
responsibility.
