STUDENT BIOGRAPHY:
I have always taken a great interest in teaching. I have learned many different strategies for teaching in my courses and
field study experiences. have been able to determine what I want to implement as a teacher and what I want to avoid
with the critical thinking strategies I have learned. Something that is important to me as a teacher is that lessons have real
life application, and students are aware of the importance of what they are learning. I have learned that students will
learn much more in their experience in school if they feel that they are accountable for their education and have a sense
of ownership and pride in what they accomplish in the classroom. I have learned how important it is to differentiate for
students, as students have different strengths and bring different experiences into the classroom. It is important that I
form connections with students and get to know the individual student, as lesson designs will be more effective if I am
aware of the individuals in the class.
My courses at Fort Lewis College have challenged me throughout my time here. I have had the opportunity to attend
field studies in multiple schools and learn about my content in class by observing it within a classroom since my second
year of college. Rigorous courses have prepared me for the rigor of being a teacher, as they have taught me how to
manage my time and what resources I should use should I run into complications. I have learned some effective practices
in providing a more meaningful education.

PLEASE LIST EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE INVOLVED IN STUDENT TEACHING:
I would be very interested in leading or helping lead after school programs and community events. I wish to be involved in
field trips and events that happen during regular school hours as well. I would also be interested in providing help after
school for students who would like extra support.

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE OUTSIDE INTERESTS THAT MIGHT ENRICH YOUR STUDENT TEACHING/PARTNERSHIP:

I highly enjoy the outdoors and enjoy learning about local science and history, which could be put to use in the classroom.
I am interested in crafts and creative projects, which would be helpful in terms of integrating arts into education, especially
for more artistic students.

One strength I possess is differentiating and adapting

TEACHING lessons to fit students’ needs. Specifically in my
experiences of teaching math at Riverview, I found that I
STRENGTHS was able to differentiate my lesson and activities based on
the range of learners in the classroom. I was able to
differentiate on the spot when I realized that some of my
students needed more support than what I had originally
planned for my lesson.

Another strength I have is in questioning. I have been

mindful of understanding how students arrive at their
answers, rather than if an answer is right or wrong. I look
for student thought process, and focus on asking
questions that go beyond one word responses. In a math
lesson, students were told to solve equations. When
students asked me if their answer was correct, I would
ask them more about how they arrived at the answer, and
what context the equation could be used in.

One weakness that I need to work on is encouraging

TEACHING student independence. In my past field study, students
will raise their hands to ask me questions often, and often
GROWTH times the questions have answers that the students
already know. In my current field study, I have students
who will copy my examples, but get stuck once they get
to create their own work. I want to learn how to
encourage my students to try to find answers of their own
before even raising their hands.
Something I need more experience with is creating
lessons that include more real world application. While
this topic is covered in college courses, I have not had the
opportunity to create a project for students that can then
be used in the classroom. I would like to be able to help
design projects for students that are challenging and
engaging.
