A.Motivation

Class, on the board is a picture

puzzle, I will give you few minutes
to arrange this. Yes Sir!

Anybody who wants to do it Sir!

Yes Nikolai! (Pupil will arrange the picture puzzle)

Is Nikolai correct? Yes Sir!

This time, watch this short video

presentation. Afterwards, Ill ask
you questions. Yes Sir!

What do we need to do in viewing? Sir! Be quiet, listen attentively,

do not make unnecessary noise

(the pupils watch the video presentation)

Okay class, in the video presentation

What are the different storm signals? Sir!
Yes, Danica Signal no. 1,2,3 & Signal no.4

What are the indicators/meanings of

storm signals that are being
mentioned in the video presentation? Sir!

Yes Sofia! Suspension of classes,

different wind speed and the extent of effects
as shown in the picture

To further know the meaning of storm signals,

on the board class are the different
meanings/indicators, All I want you to do is
read carefully and identify whether it is

Okay class, let’s check your answers

Meaning of Storm Signals

Signal No. 1 is put into effect when a maximum

wind speed of not more than 60 kph is expected

to affect a certain place in at least 36 hours.

In this situation, impact of winds may cause

twigs and branches of small trees to be broken,

some banana plants may be tilted or put down,

and some houses of very light materials, like nipa

and cogon. Classes in preschool levels in all public

and private schools in affected communities are

automatically suspended.

Signal No. 2 is announced when the maximum

wind speed is greater than 60 kph, but not more

than 100 kph is expected to affect a certain

place in at least 24 hours. In this situation,

some coconut trees may be tilted or broken,

few big trees may be uprooted, large number

of nipa and cogon houses may be partially or

totally unroofed, some old galvanized roofing

may be peeled off, and, in general, the winds

may bring light to moderate damages to the

communities affected. With storm signal no. 2,

classes in preschool, elementary and high

school levels in all public and private schools

in the affected areas are automatically suspended.

Signal No.3 is announced when a maximum wind

speed of more than 100 kph up to 185 kph is

expected to affect a certain place in at least

12 to 18 hours. In this situation, nipa houses

may be destroyed, and there may be considerable

damages to structures of light to medium

construction. There may be widespread

disruption of electrical power and communication

services, and, in general, moderate to heavy damage

may be expected, partially in agricultural and

industrial sectors. With public storm signal no. 3,

people are advised not to travel, especially by

sea or air transportation, and people should also

seek shelter in strong buildings, evacuate from

low-lying areas, and stay away from seacoasts

and river banks. Classes in all levels are

automatically suspended in affected communities.

Signal No. 4 is declared when very strong winds

of more than 185 kph is expected to affect a

certain area in at least 12 hours. In this situation,

many large trees may be uprooted and most

residential and buildings of mixed construction

may be severely damaged, electrical power

disruption and communication services are

disrupted, and, in general, massive damages

are expected in affected communities.

B. Application

Group Activity: Concept Map

I. I will group you into 4 and I will let you fill the concept map by giving the different
effects of storm signals that I will assign to you.

C. Generalization

What are the different typhoon signals? Signal no. 1, 2,3,4

What typhoon signal is the strongest? Signal no. 4

What typhoon signal is the weakest? Signal no. 1

What storm signal is the maximum speed

of 30-60 kph? Signal no. 1

What storm signal is the maximum speed

of 60-100 kph? Signal no. 2

What storm signal is the maximum speed

of 100-180 kph? Signal no. 3

What storm signal is the maximum speed

of 180 above kph? Signal no. 4

Very Good!

Why do we need to know the different

safety precautions before, during and after

typhoon? So that we can prepare

and we will be safe &

protected

IV. Evaluation

Identify what storm signals are the given below situation:

1. Massive damages may be expected in affected communities.

2. Some houses of very light materials, like nipa and cogon, may be partially unroofed.
3. People are advised not to travel, especially by sea or by air transportation.
4. Classes in preschool, elementary and high school levels in all public and private schools
in the affected areas are suspended.
5. Very strong winds of more than 185 kph is expected to affect a certain area in at least
12 hours

V. Assignment
