Bridgend Christian School is committed to the belief that learning rather than teaching is the vital issue in education and that learning must be based on biblical rather than secular principles.

HISTORY
In the 1980's 2 churches in Bridgend started Christian schools using the A.C.E. (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum. Both schools thrived and saw a great benefit in the lives of the children. In 1997 the schools amalgamated to form Bridgend Christian School affiliated to C.E.E. (Christian Education Europe), who provides A.C.E. curriculum to schools in Europe. 'All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be your children's peace' Isaiah 54:13
VISION STATEMENT
To train our students to grow to respect the things that God has revealed in the Bible and the world around them. To be a blessing and an asset to the community.
MISSION STATEMENT
To provide a complete curriculum that has as its objective the spiritual, moral, social and cultural welfare of its students as well as their academic advancement, based on biblical rather than secular principles.

Individualised
Each child has had unique experiences, has capabilities, interests and current needs. The ACE curriculum is designed to facilitate learning through self-instructional materials enabling a student with varied abilities to advance academically in all subjects. He will then realise his highest potential.
Achievement
People thrive on achievement. It is a vital, motivating factor. You can teach facts and give information but learning involves desire for knowledge. This system rewards success in academic achievement. No fast student is held back and no slow stu dent has to keep up with children his own age. Both can succeed.
Motivation
Professional guidance provides control and inspiration. The teacher as an advisor, supervisor and friend is there to stimulate co-operation, to inspire and motivate maximum learning and to encourage respect for leadership.
CHRISTIAN CURRICULUM
The ACE curriculum has been produced by teachers and writers with higher degrees and wide classroom experience. The principle of ACE is that, if a school is Christian based, then the curriculum must be Christian based. All the materials are in harmony with a biblical worldview.
Success
Real success in life is fulfilling God's will. Academic learning and a high sense of Christian values can be attained through Christian Education.
LEVELS OF CURRICULUM
Advancement to new information is not permitted until testing shows that the student has thoroughly understood all the material in the previous PACE. capable students can advance without being held back by those who need more time to assimilate information. The academic staff are released by this method to devote more time to each student, as they work at their own speed on PACES at the right level for their ability. If a student is unable to solve a problem, he/she can request help from their supervisor, who will help him/her find an answer to the problem. Since this instruction takes place privately in the student's own 'office' there are no embarrassing moments in front of the whole class and the student is free to learn.

It is difficult to be any clearer on making comparisons simply because the curricula are different. Therefore it makes more sense to see ACE curriculum as a separate entity and free students to do their best within it. Many parents have chosen Christian Education because they recognise that they have a responsibility under God to ensure that their child fulfils his or her destiny and calling. They want to ensure that their children have a Christian world-view and a personal understanding of Biblical morality. The I.C.C.E. Board has been set up to assist in these responsibilities.
Please note that none of the I.C.C.E. Certificates are age related and are awarded only when a student has completed all elements of the course. Please ask to see the Handbook if you require more detailed information on the I.C.C.E. Certificates.
Achievement Certificate
If a student does not register with the I.C.C.E. Board for a certificate, an Achievement Certificate can be issued by the school, documenting the student's work completed and contributions made to the school and community. A syllabus is available from the school on request for Levels 1 - 7 and Levels 8 - 13. It is referred to as scope and sequence.
EXPANDED CURRICULUM
Using an individualised curriculum in no way limits a student's development in working in groups and becoming confident and sensitive in relating to others. There are many opportunities in school for additional Art and Music sessions, Practical Science and Maths, IT, Singing Lessons, Discussion Groups, School Trips etc. We make weekly use of the indoor and outdoor facilities at Bridgend Recreation Centre, for our Sports Sessions. The school makes a priority of attending the annual A.C.E Student Convention, where students can participate in about 200 events. These events vary from Science Exhibits to One-Act Plays, Athletic Events to Poetry, Writing Short Stories to Reciting, Singing to Painting. The Convention is a 4-day event and a highlight of the school year. We also enjoy other links with A.C.E. students around the UK. All students are encouraged to be involved in creative initiatives in the church and community life of Bridgend and the communities in which the students live. Past students have been involved in taking a drama presentation to local primary schools and singing in the school choir in Bridgend Centre. The style of curriculum makes it ideal to involve students in both short and long term mission activities, locally and abroad. The school has many links world-wide to help facilitate this.

ADMISSIONS POLICY
The staff will assess each case on merit using the following guidelines: 1. Entrance is not based upon intelligence or achievement. A prospective student must not be a social, moral or physical liability to other students. 2. Parents are required to attend a short training and information session before a joint decision is reached about admission. 3. Students are only admitted following an interview with parents. Senior students will be interviewed as well. 4. Parents and students agree to accept the school's behaviour management policy, as outlined in this prospectus and discussed in the admissions interview. 5. All students who are admitted will take a number of academic diagnostic tests. From these tests the student will be given the appropriate level of curriculum suited to his/her needs. 6. Parents are required to attend annual Parent Conferences, to discuss their child's progress and future studies. In this way parents take an active part in the monitoring of their child's progress, in conjunction with the school staff The school will report on the child's achievements in regular written reports. 7. Parents are encouraged to attend regular parents' meetings where important information is given and matters discussed. 8. Parents are encouraged education and the life. The following are some suggestions: a. Individual and group prayer for school. b. Attendance at work and cleaning mornings. c. Assisting in teaching or administration in the classroom. d. Helping with transport for school events. e. Becoming a member of the school 'Vision' group. f. Supporting School Board. g. Involvement in student's career choices. 9. Supporting student's attendance at Convention. 10. The school is open to Christians and non Christians who are willing to support the Christian ethos.

SPECIAL NEEDS
As a small school at the moment, we are unable to provide a permanent S.E.N policy, but we are happy to be contacted on an individual basis to consider that student's needs. If we admit a student with wider additional needs, the school has the policy to implement an individual educational plan (lEP) for that policy student. All staff will be informed to focus on those needs and to monitor and review that plan with the student and parents on a regular basis.
CAREERS
The school has guidance from the local Careers Office and students may attend the office when necessary. The Careers Officer visits the school when the student reaches the appropriate year level for a career report to be written. We also work closely with the Link Officer between school and the local college. At school there are many resources conveying careers information to the students. A member of staff oversees this area and is responsible for arranging work placements and advising on such things as interview techniques and writing CV's. These important issues are prayerfully considered with each student. Parental involvement is essential.
INCENTIVE POLICY
When a person assumes greater responsibility in life he earns greater privileges. This principle is taught through the ACE Graduated Incentive System. Rewarding achievement is a sound principle and encourages students to press on for greater achievement. Privileges are awarded according to how hard children work and how well they behave. From time to time students need discipline. The system of demerits, leading to a detention, helps staff control and train each student to establish good work and social habits.
Demerits
A demerit is a slip of paper stating '1 Demerit'. It is given for errors in procedure and breaking school rules. A 'Corrective Action Notice' (called a detention) is a yellow slip showing 3 or more demerits and stating why they were given. Students given a Corrective Action Notice must show it to their parents that day, ask them to sign it and return it to their supervisor the following day to serve detention in lunch break. A 'Red Demerit' is a warning demerit to tell a student that a particular action MUST stop. It is given for a violent/abusive action to other students or staff and will start a sequence of events: 1 Red Demerit - The student's parents will be informed immediately and the student given detention AFTER school the following day. 2 Red Demerits In 1 week - Parents will be phoned and asked to collect their child from school after discussion about the offence. The appropriate action will be taken in consultation with parents. 3 Red Demerits in 1 week or regular occurrence of abusive behaviour - Procedure as above and a Parent Conference arranged immediately to discuss behaviour and appropriate action and possible withdrawal from school.
Merits
Merits are school 'currency' earned for good work and conduct and given by staff. They can be spent in Merit Shop in Friday Lunch Break or saved for 'n o uniform' days or privilege time with parents, etc. At Bridgend Christian School we support parents in training their children and like to work closely with them and maintain an 'open door' policy for parents to see staff at any appropriate time to discuss any issues that arise.
BULLYING POLICY
At Bridgend Christian School we do not believe that bullying is an inevitable part of school life. The supervisor in each Learning Centre sets the tone for that class and is important in providing a supportive and stable environment for each student. All forms of bullying are taken seriously and looked into at once. Every student is a member of the school community and has a right to enjoy their time at school whether learning or in breaks without the stress induced by any form of bullying. Any parent can look at and discuss this policy and any other policy by asking a member of staff.
SEX EDUCATION
One of the overall aims of the school is that the students understand how much God values and loves them. This encourages self respect and respect for others which should underpin any sex education curriculum. We have two members of the School Board who are highly trained and skilled in advising young people. They are committed to God's principles and use their own resources together with 'Care for the Family' sex education curriculum so the students can receive the support they need. The school will be in close communication with parents over these matters and appreciate that the home is the primary place in which children are educated.
USE OF WELSH
Welsh language, culture and history are positively promoted in Bridgend Christian School. But at the moment we have limited resources to teach Welsh to the students.
SECURITY POLICY
As the school is on a main road, we are aware that we need security measures in place. We do have a special catch on our main gate and the smaller gate remains locked. But due to Fire regulations we are unable to lock all school doors or secure the premises further. We make all students aware of 'stranger danger' and ask parents to inform us if their child is being collected by anyone other than them. All Primary students are supervised until they are collected by parents or an authorised adult. All staff working in the school have been police checked. All Fire Procedures are in place with regular fire appliance checks and fire drills. The school has a Health and Safety Policy. All parents can access all school policies and may request them and a copy of the Complaints Procedure at any time.
Bridgend Christian School provides academic training, in a loving, Christian atmosphere, that enriches lives, builds character and self discipline and encourages

STATEMENT OF FAITH
We Believe: 1. In the One Almighty God, Creator and Sovereign Ruler of the universe eternally existing in a Divine Trinity of three persons, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. 2. God's nature is one of absolute holiness, entire goodness and endless love. He is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent and has revealed himself through His Son Jesus Christ, in whom he has invested all authority. 3. Mankind is created In God's image and endowed with free will. Disobedience by Adam and Eve, the first living beings, resulted in the lost condition of the human race i.e. separation from God's presence, the introduction of sin, sickness, total depravity of moral being and death. 4. The supreme evidence of God's love demonstrated by his incarnation through virgin birth, voluntary suffering, atoning death and sacrifice and glorious ascension of his Son, Jesus Christ. 5. Salvation is the undeserved gift of God obtained solely by faith in Jesus Christ. This is received in an attitude of humility through outward confession and repentance, acknowledgement of forgiveness for sin, justification by faith in his blood, and sanctification to a life of obedience and holiness through the Holy Spirit. 6. The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are given by full inspiration of God and are the only infallible rule of faith and conduct. 7. In the Holy Spirit's agency for the conviction and regeneration of sinners, empowering of the saints for faith, witness and the demonstration of signs and wonders and the ordering of the Church through gifts and ministries. 8. The sacraments of bread, wine and water baptism are an outward sign of an inward manifestation of grate. The offering of the right hand of fellowship, laying on of hands and anointing of the sick with oil, are important In the impartation of God's blessing. 9. The church is the corporate representation of Christ here on Earth. It is called to be: The redeemed community of saints practically expressing the love of God in charitable deeds. To evangelise the nations through the declaration of the gospel. To be salt and light in the world for the preservation of Godly standards and practices. 10. In the existence of angelic beings created for God's purposes as ministering spirits. Before the creation of mankind, rebellion in the heavenlies resulted in one third serving the purposes of evil led by Lucifer, known as Satan or the Devil. The other two thirds remain In obedience to the rightful ruler of the cosmos. 11. In the Christian hope i.e. the imminent return to the Earth of Jesus Christ, the defeat of Satan and his angels, the abolition of evil and the universal establishment of the visible Kingdom of God. 12. In the future judgement of mankind, the endless happiness of the saved and the eternal punishment of the lost.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
School fees are comparatively low as the staff work for very low wages and families are actively involved in school life. This includes: teaching, administration, cleaning, transporting. supervision of children at break times, etc. Crucially, your involvement in school life strengthens the relationships between people and fosters the family atmosphere that we all value so much.
