Main focus: to check Ss knowledge of some important grammar issues taught in this unit (Present
simple- Present progressive)

Objectives:
A) Cognitive objectives: by the end of the lesson Ss will be able to:
1) revise verbs and verbal expressions
2) revise present simple affirmative, present progressive affirmative and negative
3) introduce present simple negative
4) practice present simple affirmative, negative vs. present progressive affirmative and
negative
5) practice pair working

B) Affective objectives:
1) to create a warm atmosphere in order to offer the background for smooth, easy
conversations between teacher and students;
2) to make students confident in themselves when speaking a foreign language.

Skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing


Interaction: T- Ss, S-S, Ss-Ss, PW, GW, IW
Assumed knowledge: - I assume that students already know the difference between Present simple
/present progressive and what changes appear in the structure of the tense when
using interrogative/negative forms. They are expected to use various question words and a large
amount of verbs in their statements.

Anticipated problems: - if she thinks it is necessary, the teacher will offer the students guidance in
solving certain exercises;
- a few among the Ss may be given supplementary explanations in Romanian.
Assessment activity: the students will be assessed on class participation
Teaching techniques: conversation, dialogue, exercise.
Methods of teaching: Communicative Approach
Teaching aids: : blackboard, colored chalk, handouts, task cards, pictures.

4. Practice– 10’ In pairs the Ss. get 4 task cards and follow the instructions on the T-Ss; Task cards:
Controlled cards in order to make sentences. They are written on the back of Ss- Ss; She / play cards/
practice the previous handout. Ss – T present simple (+)

5. Practice– 5’ In pairs the Ss. get 2 cards without instructions regarding the tense T-Ss; Task cards: go to
Semi- to use. Ss- Ss; school, drink
Controlled The Ss. have to make their own sentences, using the given verbs on Ss – T milk, read a book,
PW the cards. etc.
The T. asks them to make an affirmative sentence no matter the
tense. S2 makes it negative.
Then the Ss . make a negative sentence, no mater the tense. S2.
makes it affirmative.
6. Production- 7’ The Ss. are asked to use Handout 1 again in order to make their own Handout 1
Orally sentences using the two aspects of the present tense and both T-Ss;
negative and affirmative statements. Ss- Ss;

7. Homework 3’ Ss. are given a crossword puzzle. They are asked to solve it and Handout 3
them to change the sentences into present simple affirmative and
negative.
Extra activity: Ss are given some web pages links in order to
practice present simple and present progressive by playing games.
