A) Students will be able to add a mixed number and a fraction

How will you use these learning experiences or their student products as formative
assessment opportunities?
A) Bellringer: Student will complete the “Sprint” on their chromebook/computer:
https://www.zearn.org/sprint_fluencies/742
B) Motivator: When cooking fractions are often used. Imagine making the most moist
and delicious chocolate cake. If you are doubling the recipe or cutting it in half, for
example, you will need to know how to add/subtract fractions (i.e. 1 ½ cup flour-
reserve ¼ of the cup for the topping)
4. Provide Information:
A) Teacher will use the Eureka Math Book Lesson 30 (p.399 in teacher’s edition)
B) Students will go to https://www.zearn.org/video_lessons/465 and review the “MATH
CHAT”
C) Teacher will have the students open up Microsoft paint. Teacher will have the students
make a shape and then tell the students use lines to divide the shape into fractions. Next the
students will make a second shape and divide differently to create an equivalent fraction.
Lastly the teacher will have the students create two shapes with fractions and add them and
subtraction problems as well (5 each)
