Letter to Selection Committee

Dear Selection Committee,

I, King Frederick William I, am a competent absolute ruler. I have taken full control of a nation that my father
left me and made it a successful and prosperous nation. I completely got rid of the court and anybody that
would disagree with me, I knew that I had to follow my vision and it would become a success. I was correct and
my vision led to amazing things. I did not only form a nation that was powerful and prosperous, but a nation
that the people where intelligent and led great lives.

During my reign as king I had many accomplishments. One of my many accomplishments was implementing
the General Directory. The General Directory was a form of absolutism. During this time, all the European
countries wanted to implement a form of this but couldn’t seem to do so. I was the first to successfully
implement this and have such a positive outcome. Another accomplishment I had was introducing primary
education. I found primary education as an important aspect of our nation. It would cost the nation more to have
a majority of the population being illiterate subjects than just giving them education. All of my
accomplishments came from my vision for Prussia. I did everything I was capable of to fulfill my vision and by
doing so I made something great.

King Louis XIV was a great ruler but nothing compared to me. Something that I focused on was the citizens,
King Louis XIV had many problems with his. King Louis could not take control of his nobles, he had to punish
many of them and still couldn’t take control. I on the other hand helped my citizens. I freed the serfs of my
nation and gave everyone a chance to succeed in life. Another reason why I am a better option than King Louis
is I had a more successful nation that was much bigger than the nation King Louis had to rule over.

Sincerely,
Fredrick William I of Prussia
