Internet Safety
As you will be aware, I am very keen
to offer advice and guidance to make
sure we are keeping our children safe
in the on-line environment. Children
in our school may have been lucky
enough to have received new
phones, tablets, laptops, games
consoles, etc over Christmas. In the
excitement of unpacking them and
starting to use them, you may not yet
have had chance to look at the
privacy, restriction settings or
parental controls. I highly
recommend that you do this as soon
as possible. With most devices, you
can restrict the content, in-app
purchases, addition of new apps to a
certain age, etc. It is also worth
password protecting the restrictions
part of the settings so that children
cannot override them. It is good
advice not to set up devices in your
username/password for existing
devices as the accounts may be linked
and children could access your
information/images/
accounts etc. I don’t profess to be an
expert in all devices but please ask, if
you think I can help you.
Alternatively, an internet search of
‘parental controls’ or ‘restriction
settings’ can give some really good
sites to support you with this. Many
organisations also offer advice,

NSPCC, UK Safer Internet,
Thinkuknow, Apple, Google Play,
Tech Advisor (for Android), Microsoft.
It really is worth spending time doing
this to protect your children online.
STEM
I hope you will have received a letter
by pupil post and email regarding our
STEM fortnight. We are very excited
about the Lego workshops as well as
the other activities that are planned.
If you work within an industry or
business that is science, technology,
engineering or mathematics and you
are able to visit us in school, we
would love to hear from you. You

may like to visit a class to talk about
your job, your role within these
subjects or you may be able to help
children think about this as a future
career or interest. It would be lovely
to welcome you into class for a short
talk, Q&A session, etc. Please contact

Roberts Bakery
Yesterday, Roberts Bakery visited
Year 5 to bake bread and to explain
the process of making bread on a
commercial scale. We always enjoy
Roberts Bakery visiting us and the
children gain a huge insight into the
process and the business. Thank you
to Roberts Bakery and I am glad the
children had so much fun.
PTA Spring Disco
The date has now been set for
Tuesday 13th February for our Spring
Disco. More details will be following
from the PTA,
including how
to buy tickets
and what else
will be available
to purchase during the evening.
However, I can let you know that the
theme will be ‘Emoticons’ and the
times will be: Reception/KS1 – 5.30-
6.30pm and KS2 – 6.45-7.45pm.

Well done to the RED team for being the
first winners this term.
Volunteering in school
I would like to take this opportunity
to thank all the parents who have
been in school helping the children
and staff this year. Your time and
support is always welcomed and
valued. We have parents helping with
art, reading, technology, swimming,
textiles etc with many bringing
unique skills to the school which the
children benefit from. If you would
like to be part of our growing parent
team, please speak to a member of
staff in school to see what you could
offer. I know that our parent helpers
gain as much as we gain in terms of
their contribution back into school
and find it highly rewarding working
with your children. For information,
all volunteers are subject to strict
checks with regard to safeguarding.
