The Workbook

Purpose

The purpose of this workbook is to support you, the learner, as you gather and record evidence to
show understanding towards your qualification. This is a unit designed to increase your knowledge of
team leadership. It will introduce key principles of team leadership, leadership styles and motivation
techniques.

Content

The workbook covers all of the criteria required to achieve this unit. You may choose to complete
some or all of the tasks listed. If you choose not to complete this workbook, or only complete some of
the tasks, other supporting evidence must be submitted to your Regional Trainer to show that all the
assessment criteria in this unit have been fully achieved.

Regional Trainer

Your Regional Trainer will also support you to complete the workbook. He or she will discuss the
workbook with you and answer any questions you may have on what you need to do. The Regional
Trainer will make sure that you fully understand what you will need to learn in order to record your
answers in your workbook.

What you need to do:

1. You may want to add additional pages as required or use the blank pages at the back of the
workbook for any notes or to complete questions where you run out of space. Please ensure that you
have signed and dated every attachment before submission.

2. When you are ready to submit your work, please complete the unit sign off form at the end of the

Unit aim(s) This unit aims to develop knowledge and understanding required to lead a
team. Upon completion of this unit, learners will have developed an
understanding of key team leading principles, including leadership styles, team
dynamics and team motivation. Learners will also develop an understanding of
techniques used to manage the work of teams and the impact of change
management within a team.

Section 1: Understanding leadership styles in organisations

AC 1.1

Describe characteristics of effective leaders


You are required to describe the principal features of five or more characteristics of effective leaders. (Note
that it is not sufficient to merely list five or more characteristics.)

Integrity : this skill is important because rappresent how your team can have trust on you, and how treat all
component of team at same level.

Professional : A Leader not professional can`t ispiring his staff because they see him not expert of his job.

Organised: without organization a Leader will appear mess so can`t be also good comunicator.

Ispirational : A Leader with this caratheristic can be a model for his team , help them how to find out solution
for their problem and not just order stuff to do.

Passionate : A Leader with Passion can transport his group to enjoy to work and not just work because we
have to do it.

AC 1.2

Describe different leadership styles

You are required to describe the principal features of three or more leadership styles. (Note that it is not
sufficient to merely list three or more leadership styles.)

Directing : give direct istruction clear especially to a new employer.

Supporting : some staff need continuos support from his leader , reassurance and encouragement.

Coaching : when there are more experiences people , you can ask their idea to develop the work better,
this is coaching style.

Delegating : when there are experience people that usualy what to stuff alone because their are very
confindence with , so you can delegate them for new responsability and give more authority.

Describe ways in which leaders can motivate their teams

You are required to describe two or more ways in which motivation theory can be used to motivate your
teams.

equity theory : people fell motivate if the fell treat fairly and equitably

goal theory : people are motivated if they have goal as challenge to achieve.

hygiene factor : it is important factor to motivate staff without it they will become demotivated

Explain the benefits of effective leadership for organisations


You are required to explain how doing two or more of these tasks effectively as a leader will benefit the
organisation. (You may wish to provide examples to illustrate your answer.)

High morale and team spirit : the workers are happy fell in team and produce more for company.

Developing positive customer interaction : positive team will trasport their feeling on customers with greit
impact.

Explain how the principle of team role theory is used in team building and leadership
You are required to explain how knowing the basic roles can be used to build teams and help leadership.

Teams develop through stages which Tuckman describes as Forming, Storming,


Noeming ,Performing,Adjourning.

Forming:team acquaints and establishes ground rules.

Storming :members start tocommunicate their feelings but still view themselves as individuals.

Noeming : People feel part of the team.

Performing : the team works in an open and trusting atmosphere.

Adjourning : The team conducts an assessment of the year and implements a plan for transitioning roles.

Explain typical sources of conflict within a team and how they could be managed
You are required to provide two or more examples that explain how conflict is typically caused within a team and then
go on to explain what you would do to manage that conflict.

Values : someone thing not is corrent the right thing to do.

Style : someone can be very organized some other lazy so leave to do stuff at last time.

- Don`t talk when everybody is angry


- encourage everyone to talk even though is unconfortable
- ask people how they would like problems will be resolve
- find different solution not be hurry
