PART 1

TEST 1

IT TECHNICAL – 355 words

Groups, Roles, and Rights

Users are able to perform tasks and gain access to specific features in XXX based on the rights held by their user
account. To gain rights, user accounts must belong to the groups you set up in User Setup.
By grouping user accounts, you can organize users and control the scope of their access within XXX. Using
groups, roles, and rights, you can enhance the security of XXX, steer users to targeted content, and
ensure that anonymous users are automatically given appropriate rights.
Groups are based on the roles they are assigned, while roles are based on the rights they are assigned. Rights,
roles, and groups are defined as follows:
 A right is a permission to perform a specific task.
 A role is a set of rights typically consisting of a set of related rights that should be assigned together.
However, you can create a role from any of the rights available in XXX.
 A group is a set of roles that defines the scope of a user account. Users can belong to more than one group,
and their overall scope is determined by all of the rights they have.

Working with Roles

Using roles, you can create a system of groups, each with a different scope, to meet user and administration
needs. Roles are reusable, allowing you to associate the same role with any number of groups. A role for a group
of users who publish events would typically include the following rights: Add event, Modify event, and Delete
event. However, if some users are allowed only to add events, they must be placed in a second group, with a role
that excludes the Delete event and Modify event rights.

Adding a Role
To add a new role:
1. Click User Setup > Roles > Add.
2. Enter a name for the new role in the Name field.
3. Enter a description for the new role in the Description field
4. Select the rights you want the new role to have.
5. Click Save to save the new role, or click Reset to delete the information you entered.

TEST 2

MULTIMEDIA – 505 words (Please translate all samples A, B and C)

A) Software
With longer range and greater damage capability than the Inner Sphere Large Laser, the Clan ER Large Laser is
considered a major improvement. Its only drawback is the increased heat output.
The Flamer is a very effective short-range weapon in that it not only damages enemy RoboGlads, it also
increases enemy heat, making it difficult for the targeted unit to return fire.
Much like the Clan ER Large Laser, the Clan ER Medium Laser shows improvement over the Inner Sphere
version in damage and range, but generates greater heat.
Hard to learn, but has high damage-to-tonnage ratio. Damage is based on charge time. Pulling the trigger starts
the charge. It will fire upon reaching full charge or when the trigger is pulled again.
Even improvements in range and damage can't keep the Clan Small Laser from being a support weapon used
only when most other options have failed, or when the extra heat capacity is available.
One of the best overall weapons available to a RoboGladiator, the Large Laser is a good mix of range, power,
and recycle time, making it useful in most situations. Its one drawback is heat build-up.
Long considered an Inner Sphere workhorse, the Medium Laser is an excellent support weapon for close-range
combat. However, its short range and low damage keep it from being a primary weapon.
The Small Laser is considered more of a utility weapon. Alone it is almost useless, but in banks or combined
with other weapons, it can add that last bit of damage in a short-range barrage.

B) Audio script
NOTE TO THE TRANSLATOR:
Translations should be of similar length to the original. This type of text would typically be recorded by actors in a studio.

Lawhorn Striker One, this is Black Six. Alpha Lance is two clicks out from Nav Alpha.
Fall back by best available route and rendezvous at Alpha.

Sir, the Hrothgar is lifting off!

Major Dupree Attention Black Knight Legion mercenaries. Not like you to let the big one get
away.
Lawhorn This is Black Knight Legion command. Identify yourself.
Major Dupree This is Major Carrissa Dupree of the Lyran Alliance. We are here to brief the
Legion on its next assignment.
Lawhorn I don't recall signing any contract to support such a claim.

Major Dupree We'll settle terms en route. We're advancing you this pair of RoboGlads as a
gesture of goodwill.
Eric (appreciative whistle) Looks like a clan Ryoken.
Isabel (somewhat astonished) Is that a Sunder? Never seen one before. Sure is big.

C) Narrative Script

Commentator 1: This is all we can see of the planet. We don't know how long it will be before
contact can be re-established. Reports from the planet are sketchy at best.
Refugees continue to evacuate, bringing with them stories of horror and
hardship.
Commentator 2 …widespread fighting has swept the planet. Early accounts indicated that
Steiner and Davion forces had finally engaged. New reports suggest that House
Liao has been drawn into the fighting. And now, unconfirmed sources tell us
that a revolution is underway and that partisans plan to storm the capital. With
communications cut on the planet, we will all have to wait to see how this drama
plays out.

TEST 3

ENGINEERING/AUTOMATION – 402 words

Understanding the Controller, Chassis, and I/O Modules for a XXX System
Control hardware includes a Chassis (Rack), Power Supply, 1757-PLX52 Control Processor, XXX Interface,
Redundancy Module, and I/O Modules. An optional Battery Extension Module (not shown) is also available.
The Chassis is available in 5 sizes - 4, 7, 10, 13, and 17 slots.

1 The Power Supply is separate from the Rack and does not consume any slots. It is mounted on the left
end of the Rack. Both 120/240 VAC and 24 VDC supplies are available.

2 The 1757-PLX52 Process Control Module is a double wide, two-board assembly featuring a
100 MHz PowerPC processor and eight (8) Mbytes of RAM with error detection and correction. It supports both
non-redundant and redundant controller configurations. Four (4) Mbytes of parity-protected Flash ROM is used
for permanent program storage and allows easy upgrades. A built-in lithium battery backs up the controller
database, and an optional two-slot wide Battery Extension Module provides a rechargeable option instead of
replacing the lithium battery.
The Process Controller architecture, featuring the 1757-PLX52 Control Processor, handles a wide variety of
requirements, including continuous processes, batch processes, discrete operations, and machine control needs.
Compact and cost-effective, the 1757-PLX52 is ideal for integrated regulatory, fast logic, sequential, and batch
control applications. Control functions are provided through a library of templates called Function Blocks (FBs).
Strategies are easily built using a state-of-the-art graphical engineering tool called Control Builder. Once built,
control strategies can be loaded and monitored using Control Builder.
The Control Execution Environment (CEE) is the execution and scheduling environment for the
1757-PLX52 Control Processor. It is available in two base execution rates, 50 msec (normal) and 5 msec (fast)
and is selected and loaded into the processor with Control Builder, so you can select the execution speed at
development time.
CEE is the underlying support layer for the execution of all control functions. It features:
 Individual per-module selectable execution rates of 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 msec for the 50 msec
CEE and 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 ms for the 5 msec CEE.
 Configurable phase assignment of any modules executing slower than the base rate. This provides the ability
to “load balance” a Control Processor.
 Peer-to-peer communication between 1757-PLX52 Control Processors (PLX555 and other Legacy PLC’s,
such as PLC5). Implementation is transparent so that peer-to-peer connections are configured in the same
way as intra-controller connections.

TEST 4

MEDICAL test a) – 208 words

The aim of the study was to determine the absorption and transport scattering coefficient of the dermal and
subdermal layers of human skin over the near infrared wavelength range which in our case was 620 to 1000 nm.
The majority of data relates to caucasian skin but additional anecdotal data was also obtained from muscle and
negroid skin. Human tissue samples were ex-vivo from either plastic surgery or post mortem examinations. The
measurement method used diffuse reflectance and transmittance single integrating sphere measurements of 1.5 to
2 mm thick samples using the integrating sphere in "comparison mode". The reflectance and transmittance
measurements being matched uniquely to Monte Carlo simulations of diffuse reflectance and transmittance for a
2D table of absorption and transport scattering coefficients. The method represents various refinements of a
method started originally in the Department by Alan Smith and later by Michael Adams.
Temperature sensitivity of the optical coefficients was evaluated over a 25 to 40 degrees Celsius range by
placing the experimental apparatus and samples in a temperature controlled chamber (neonatal incubator).
The results are suitable for use in more complex simulations of light transport in complex tissue models (e.g.
Finite Element, Monte Carlo) involving skin structures, such as the head, abdomen, arm or leg.

TEST 4

MEDICAL test b) – 561 words

Summary and Explanation of the Test

Thyroxine (3,5,3',5'-tetraiodothyronine, L-thyroxine or T 4) is a hormone synthesized and

secreted by the thyroid gland and plays an important role in regulating metabolism.
Secretion into the circulation is in response to the pituitary hormone TSH (thyroid
stimulating hormone) and is regulated by a negative feedback mechanism involving the
thyroid gland, pituitary gland, and hypothalamus.1,2
In the circulation, 99.95% of T4 is reversibly bound to transport proteins, primarily
thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG) and to a lesser extent albumin and thyroxine-binding
prealbumin (TBPA). The remaining T4 is not bound to transport proteins, but is free in the
circulation. This unbound fraction, or free T4 (FT4), is both metabolically active and a
precursor to triiodothyronine (T3).1,3-5
Free T4 levels correlate with T4 secretion and metabolism. In hypothyroidism and
hyperthyroidism, FT4 levels parallel changes in total T4 levels.4 Measuring free T4 is
useful when altered levels of total T4 occur due to changes in T4 binding proteins,
especially TBG. TBG levels remain relatively constant in healthy individuals, but certain
conditions, such as normal pregnancy and steroid therapy, can alter these levels. In these
conditions, free T4 levels are unchanged, while total T4 levels parallel the changes in
TBG.

Limitations
The anticonvulsant drug phenytoin may interfere with total and free T 4 levels due to
competition for TBG binding sites.
FT4 values may be decreased in patients with non-thyroidal conditions and in patients
taking carbamazepine.
Performance of this assay has not been established with neonatal specimens.
Heterophilic antibodies in human serum can react with reagent immunoglobulins,
interfering with in vitro immunoassays. Patients routinely exposed to animals or to animal
serum products can be prone to this interference and anomalous values may be observed.
Additional information may be required for diagnosis.
Thyroid autoantibodies in human serum may interfere and cause falsely elevated FT 4
results.
Serum specimens that are . . . Have an insignificant effect on the assay up to . . .
hemolyzed 300 mg/dL of hemoglobin
lipemic 1000 mg/dL of triglycerides
icteric 20 mg/dL of bilirubin

TEST 5

HARDWARE – 415 words

Avoiding Buffer Underruns

Data buffering is the process in which the data to be written to the CD is stored in a temporary location before
being sent to the CD-R/RW drive. All CD-R/RW drives absolutely require that data written to the CD be
streamed to the drive in one continuous flow. If this data stream is interrupted, for any reason, the potential for
the drive to essentially 'run out' of data is very high. When the drive runs out of data, a buffer underrun occurs
and the disc is usually rendered unusable.
This is why data is usually buffered before it is sent to the drive. This buffering allows the software to account
for small changes in the data stream, which may be caused by any number of external factors.
There are many things the user may do to help avoid buffer underruns.
Defragment Hard Drives
When files are first written to a new hard drive, they are stored sequentially. Essentially, the entire file is written
from start to finish, in one contiguous area of the drive. As a hard drive is continuously used, files are constantly
being added and deleted, freeing up space in previously written areas.
When new files are then added to the hard drive, the operating system attempts to use up all of this free space.
Very often, the amount of free space is too small to store the entire new file. As a result, files can no longer be
written in one large contiguous space. The files are divided into smaller portions and stored in the various small
free spaces spread over the drive. The files become 'fragmented'.
All of this fragmenting of files is done without the user's knowledge or interaction. To the users, the file appears
as one large file within their systems.
When trying to write these files to a CD, the system must put all of the file fragments back together before
sending them to the CD-R/RW drive. This requires large amounts of time for hard drive seeking and CPU
overhead. As a result, the flow of data to the drive may be interrupted.
To help alleviate this problem, it is suggested that the users periodically defragment their hard drives.
Defragmenting reorganizes all of the files on the hard drive so that they are all stored in one contiguous area,
from start to finish.
Windows 95/98/2000 and ME provide a utility to do so. There are also many third party utilities to perform this
same task.

TEST 6

COMMUNICATIONS – 329 words

What is Diversity?
Diversity is the assignment separation of the facility assignment of two circuits. It establishes redundancy in a
network, resulting in the protection from catastrophic failure. A network becomes vulnerable to outages and
other services affecting conditions. [XXX] ’s software allows you to automate and enforce the diversity
requirements and identifies diversity violations in order to protect your network.
Diversity involves diverse routing of circuits. Diverse routing prevents common points of failure and prevents
the identification and tracking of these points of non-compliance.
There are three forms of diversity:
 Diversity: Assignment separation of the facility assignment of two circuits.
 Triversity: Assignment separation for three out of four circuits that must be installed in quad arrangements
such as B-Links. Triversity sets contain either three or four circuits in the triversity set. However, if the
triversity set contains four circuits, one circuit must be designated as "Excluded" from diversity validation.
 Quadversity: Assignment separation for all four circuits in the quadversity set.

Access Customer Name Abbreviation Field

The Access Customer Name Abbreviation (ACNA) field is used to tie a PSR customer account to an ASR,
ISR, or LSR customer (which is called an ACNA). Because PSR ordering may represent an access customer,
[XXX] ’s software is able to tie them together. ACNAs are entered through Infrastructure's List>Access
Customer function.

TEST 7

FINANCE/ECONOMICS – 395 words

Coming Bounce-Back Should Resemble Nifty Fifty

Over the next month, the case for a severe synchronized global recession and a secular bear market may become
the consensus for investment sophisticates. My guess is that the deepening gloom will lead to more weakness in
equities, more strength in bonds, and perhaps a selling climax and some capitulation. The sentiment measures
we monitor are showing rising bearishness but are not yet at the extreme levels we would want to see before
buying. In this decline, the Old Economy sectors, particularly financials and consumer cyclicals, should be hit
hard, and the rate of decline in TMT should decelerate. The collapse of corporate profits is driving stock prices,
stock prices are affecting corporate actions like layoffs, and both are dampening consumer confidence and
spending, which recycles back to profits.
After equities have fallen further and discounted the gloom, at some point in the relatively near future, there
should be a powerful rally. TMT sectors should have the biggest bounces. Many large-cap TMT names could
double and still be far below their highs of last year. This action should be similar to that of the Nifty Fifty off
the 1974 bottom. I would own Treasury bonds, the Euro, energy stocks, and US pharmaceuticals.

Consumer Risk Rises Along with white-collar Layoffs

Two factors lie behind the sharp deterioration on the US job front — an inventory correction and the
imperatives of corporate cost cutting. The inventory dynamic is, of course, the hallmark of most business
cycles. It takes a sharp, but temporary, toll on manufacturing employment, as industrial production is aligned
with the depressed level of sales.

Seeking Bottom
Stocks weaken as US data oscillates between recovery and weakness. Tech continues to lead the way down,
approaching the lows set last spring. Is there any reason to hope, or should 2001 be written off? There are a few
reasons to suggest we may be in better shape and in a better mood at some point fairly soon.
Positives include deep pessimism among investors, scattered signs of stabilization in the US and European
economies, improving valuations, and a bear market that is approaching the long-toothed 1980–82 bear for
longevity.
Concerns include the need for broader signs of US macro stabilization coupled with corporate statements
suggesting stabilization. Also, we believe more liquidity is necessary outside the US, from the ECB and the BoJ.

TEST 8

WORD PLAY/PUNS – 271 words

Hogs of War
Years ago, back in the early, formative years of PlayStation, some strange, socially maladjusted programmer
decided that a game where tiny hermaphrodites blow seven shades of you know what out of each other with a
vast array of fiendish and brutal weaponry (not to mention the odd exploding sheep) would be a good idea; and
do you know he was right, it was a great idea and so Worms was born.
Some time later, Worms Armageddon arrived on the battlefield with a loud and excited cry of "Incoming!" but
when the smoke cleared, the sequel had delivered nothing really new, unless you count the free eyestrain given
gratis with every effort to decipher the ludicrously difficult to see weapon selection screen. While "If it ain't
broke don't fix it" may be a motto helpful in everyday life, In the gaming world a more appropriate one might be
"keep moving or die".
Enter Hogs Of War, in a barrage of risible and unforgivable puns chiefly revolving around the words 'bacon' and
'ham'. "It's just like Worms except with pigs" cries every headline, and so it is, though with important differences.
Whereas in the Worms titles the player controlled the movements and machinations of a platoon of cute, if
accident-prone invertebrates, in Hogs Of War, as you may imagine, the troops are of a profoundly more porcine
variety.
Choosing from piggy platoons with distinctly dodgy names like Garlic Grunts, Sushi-Shine and my personal
favourite Sow-A-Krauts, you can march all over the hills and dales, mountains and lakes of Saustralasia
wreaking all manner of destruction and laying waste to you opponents.

It wiggles, Leap!
The top one! Here!
My tooth! It's loose!
Cried Lil, ...
Oh Dear!
Lil looked at Leap.
Tad did not make another peep.
Lil’s eyes got big.
She clutched her chin.
Her knee caps shook.
Her legs caved in.
Then Lil got up, about to yell.
Leap gasped,…
"Look, Lil! Your Tooth! It fell!"
Her tooth sat there, upon the rug.
She'd sneezed it out, without a tug!
Lil smiled at Leap, her swell big brother,
"Leap, could you help me with another?"

TEST 10

SPORT – 444 words

Konami has taken the rather brave step of redesigning the game engine with new controls, moves and options
that have made a good game even better. Devotees of the original will bang on about the control system and the
quality of the artificial intelligence given to the computer opponents. For those unfamiliar with the ISS gameplay
it is best described as slower and more tactical than its competitors. Evolution builds on the ISS system and now
offers more moves and specialist passes, including a great chipped ball through the middle and unbelievable
semi-user controlled goalkeepers. Another strength is the realism afforded to teams and players...height, weight,
style and skill are unique to individuals so you never get the feeling that you're playing with or against a team of
11 Shearers.
Off the pitch a welcome addition is the new 'Master League' which offers 16 international teams including
Manchester United and AC Milan etc.
When it comes down to it, personal preference is going to dictate which game you choose. N64 owners also face
this dilemma as they have the excellent FIFA 2000 and ISS 98 titles to choose from, although the ISS control
system feels slightly clumsy on the Nintendo's analogue joypad. Graphically both Euro 2000 and Evolution are
on a par. For overall presentation Euro wins hands down but Konami has never been big on style, its forte has
always been gameplay and on this front Evolution definitely has the edge, although my personal preference for a
single player game still stays with the FIFA engine.

Script – Commentary
“Shocking – and you know what I’m talking about. The defence looked like they were on holiday today! They
didn’t close men down, and seemed to panic every time the ball came into the box. A really poor display at the
back, and the manager needs to address that quickly.”
“Well, as you saw, there was some real quality in evidence today. This team have an excellent strikeforce and
have shown that they can create and take advantage of the slightest of opportunities”
“The striking today was top class – a joy to watch. Unusually, the difference between the teams was not
necessarily slack defending, but good attacking play with some lovely strikes to end the moves.”
“We saw some great skill today. The passing was sharp, instinctive – everyone wanted the ball. They were some
excellent little one-two’s and clever pieces of interplay – a joy to watch.”
“What can you say. Today was not about good or bad defending, today was about the attacking. We saw some
great hits from inside and outside the box – real quality shooting, and the opposition didn’t have an answer to it.”
