Letter of motivation

I am Bwire Edgar, Ugandan from Kampala an undergraduate with a Bachelors degree of Arts in
Economics from Kyambogo University Kampala. I am from a peasant background raised in the suburbs of
Kampala by a single parent. Due to the financial constraint at home, while at the University I applied for
a part time job in an insurance company(Britam) in the sales department with aim of attaining the
necessary funds to cover up my tuition fees plus accommodation expenses having enrolled as an
evening student at Kyambogo University. I also took part in electoral activities as a Poll Clerk which
were/are organized by the Uganda government all with aim of covering up the funds required of me by
the University. Having attained a degree in Economics from a local university has been more of a
fairytale since few people in Uganda possess this honor. Therefore, I owe this to my father teamed up
with my reliance, determination and hard work.

As a part timer in the insurance sector, I realized that the Ugandan economy is hindering some of these
sectors from registering the desired growth and development. Therefore, having learned that our
economy needs strategic decision makers who are capable of making well founded decisions and
formulate policy advice. This inspired me the more to fully pursue my career in economics. At the
University, I led economics discussion groups took full part in both individual and group course works
with aim of improving on my analytical and strategic thinking skills in the field of economics.

Therefore, I have a strong belief that attaining this scholarship will be a game changer in my life and a
dream come true since it would avail to me the potential of becoming one of the best economic policy
makers Africa and the world has ever embraced.

During my time as an Ambassador at Maastricht University, I will ensure I create time within the
semester to interact with new students and people from diverse cultures and beliefs around the
different faculties at the University, offer assistance to the students especially the new/fresh students
with aim of enabling them settle in Maastricht and have an easy start to student’s life in Maastricht and
also make International friends and introduce new buddies to the Maastricht way of life. On the same
note, as an ambassador of Maastricht University in East Africa, I wish to revive the alumni group of
Dutch old students

After my graduate course at Maastricht, I look at coming back to my home country in East Africa and
work with the community through the local government to implement and apply those international
experiences I would have learnt from the Netherlands.
