MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION

Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.dD.

Jon Kabat-Zinn started his mindfulness-based stress reduction program in University of Massachusets
Medical Centre in the 1970-ies. A pioneering work that has achieved impressive results which has inspired
the whole world of western medicine to look to eastern knowledge and methods to promote health and
well-being.

He is the author of two best-selling books bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and
society:
“Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness”
(Dell 1990), and
“Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life” (Hyperion, 1994)

Mindfulness is based on buddhist meditation practice, and put in a western modern context. Mindfulness is
a powerful approach that can show you that by focusing on the present moment you can replace stress
promoting habits by mindful, nonjudgmental awareness of our bodies and minds - a skill that will
permanently change the way you handle stress and give you more peace at mind and a healthier body.

Mindfulness is for anyone living with stress, anxiety, pain or illness. It can also be used to help reduce work
stress. Mindfulness is very popular in the world of psychology, medicine, neuroscience, education and
business.
