Despite it all, the Presidents Club Charitable ‘Trust remains as a constant, and, welcoming our all time high guest list, has successfully managed to withstand all the uncertainties of our times. We are immensely proud that a tradition as long established as ours, is still as strong as ever. We are extremely grateful to our good friend David Walliams for once again hosting the evening. With his charm, wit and dedication to children’s causes, we are delighted that he is joining us for the third year in a row. We are also thrilled ro welcome back as our Auctioneer, the unflagging, persistent and animated Jonny Gould who never fails to raise both the roof and the funds. Together with a selection of entertainment, we are in for a great kick-start to the New Year. A huge thank you must go to the hard working committee members of the Presidents Club Charitable Trust, with a particularly hearty gratitude to Harvey Soning and Joe Weston without whom the charity just wouldnt function. Over the past 34 years, our committee has embraced a challenge and are still as dedicated as ever to raising as much as we can for disadvantaged children across the country. The Presidents Club maintains its commitment not to donate into general funds, but rather help fund items of equipment or specific projects. In the recent past we have donated substantial sums to all three of London's great children’s hospitals and in doing so, honours the pledges made to long term projects. We are, however, as committed as ever to help smaller charities, often choosing those that are out of the mainstream and might otherwise get overlooked. Over the past 2 years we have made donations of 2.1 million pounds and we are incredibly grateful to you our guests for helping us achieve this. Our aim is still simple ~ to raise as much as possible so that even more worthy causes can benefit from our donations. In our effort to collect a fabulous sclection of auction items, the ballroom might look as though Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are about to head off on their next challenge, but these three spectacular cars can be yours and we invite you to take a look at them along with the other amazing items we are auctioning. Our personal highlight is the chance to name the new Evelina children's High Dependency Unit after yourself, a loved one or your company. This prize is extremely precious to us. The Presidents Club has pledged over £650,000 to Evelina Children's hospital with half a million going to build this state-of-the-art, much needed unit and many of us on the committee have met with staff at the hospital to see the work being undertaken, and yer, for the right generous donor, we are ving away the rights to name the new facility. Please pledge like you've never pledged before, as only a significant sum will win this extremely special auction item. As promised, listed in the brochure, are all our generous 2017 Patrons. We thank them sincerely for giving generously and invite you all to pledge for this year so that our overwhelming list of Patrons grows even more for 2018. A hard working Donations Committee! Over the past year the Presidents Club Charitable Trust Donations Committee have been hard at work, ensuring that the many charities and organisations that apply to us are able to benefit from our help. We are delighted to announce that our long term project with Great Ormond Street hospital is now complete and the new Presidents ib Iligh Dependency Unit was opened just over a month ago. Our new long term project is with Evelina children’s hospital to whom we have pledged a total of £650,000 with half a million of it going to fund a new state of the art and much needed 6 bed, high dependency space within the new intensive care unit. Construction is currently underway and it is hoped that the unit will open by early summer of this year. In addition to the larger pledges, we highlight below just a small selection of some of the other smaller charities that we have helped in 2017. In April the President's Club donated £13,560 to ‘React’. This invaluable funding went towards specialist supportive seating for life-limited children, designed to be used in the home. For many children with limited mobility it is common for their wheelchair or bed to be the only place available to them. However, over long periods, the hard seat of a wheelchair can be uncomfortable and confining a child to a bedroom keeps them away from the centre of family life. One such family who has benefited from the work of ‘React’ is Lily-Mae and Liam’. Tragically, both siblings were born with an extremely rare brain abnormality and have profound and complex disabilities. They require assistance with all aspects of daily life and both parents are their full ime carers, Before ‘React’ were able to help, Lily-Mae and Liam had to spend a significant amount of time in either their specialist buggies or their beds as neither can sit independently without support. Finding ways to accommodate both children in the living room and seated in a supported way, is extremely challenging, as keeping them comfortable, relaxed and engaged is essential to their wellbeing. Physiotherapists working with the family recommended a P-Pod seat for each child. The seats offer postural support, are comfortable and suitable for the children to relax in when feeding or spending time in the sitting room. The family however, live in difficult circumstances and the seats, costing over £1,000, were far beyond their financial means. ‘React’ was delighted to be able ro help provide the seats to both children giving Lily-Mae and Liam comfort, supportand the opportunity to experience a true family environment. With the Presidents Club support, ‘React’ has been able to assist more children like Lily-Mae and Liam. For more than two decades, ‘Maggies’ has been delivering a bespoke programme of psychological, practical and social support in a growing network of centres builtin the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals. It isa free service to patients and their loved ones at any stage of their illness. Support is tailored to include anyone affected wi a patient's wider family circle, For young people, however, who are establishing their identity, forming friendships and building foundations for their futures, the impact of cancer can be profound. People coming to terms with their own emotions struggle to explain cancer to their dependents, who, sensing something is wrong, can become distressed and tend to bottle up feelings of anxiety, guilt and uncertainty. Recognising that a child’s unconscious mind expresses feelings through pictures, colours and shapes that may be impossible to put into words, ‘Maggies work with young people using creative sessions, helping them to start unraveling difficult emotions and find theit voice. ‘The Presidents Club supported ‘Maggies’ by funding £2,200 towards art materials, fuzzy felt, and books that are used to help in the support of children affected by cancer, to encourage expression and communication through this emotional and distressing time. In January, The Presidents Club Charitable Trust donated £9,790 to purchase fourteen Open Canoes for Stubbers ‘Adventure Centre, a multi activity venue that serves the young people from a variety of backgrounds in Essex and the North East of London. Each year, the dedicated, enthusiastic and specialist Stubbers team, introduce over 27,000 young people to adventure activities including open canoeing in which a variety of children with varying challenges benefit cnormously from the ream building exercises and personal confidence tasks presented by paddling two to a boat. Providing quality equipment and trainers comes at a high cost and without grants and donations such as the one from the Presidents Club, the team would struggle to make the activities accessible to all children regardless of their financial circumstances. In May of last year the Presidents Club donated £15,000 to the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity who are helping fund the building of a new specialist cancer hospital in the centre of Liverpool, an area with the highest cancer rates in England. With the support of charitable partners like us, a new purpose built teenage and young adult cancer unit is under construction. This new unie will offer a specialist service within a dedicated space for teenagers and young adults suffering with cancer. Specifically we have funded the cost of new chemotherapy chairs and an interactive TV. These will be located within the TYA Unit so the young patients there can have outpatient treatment in the same surroundings as the inpatient care, acting as a base for all their clinical appointments. This will mean they can continue to benefit from peer support and social friendships no matter whether they are receiving outpatient or inpatient treatment. The Specialise chairs will optimise mobility and provide outstanding comfort and safety, supporting the young people that may be undergoing lengthy treatment of up to eight hours at a time. Some of the other charities that have benefited from our donations over the past year have been:- Evelina, Guys & St Thomas’ Charity £100,000.00 The 2nd instalment of the £500k pledge towards the new HDU at Evelina Oasis Community Hub Waterloo £15,000.00. ‘Towards the cost of daily pitch hire, football equipment, kit, for children NSPCC_ £25,000.00 Headsets for Childline Partnership for Children £2,000.00 ‘Towards Zippy's Friends story booklets ‘The Honeypot Children's Charity £15,000.00 Towards running costs of minibus Cancer Research UK £20,000.00 ‘Towards equipment for children. > Noah's Ark Children's Hospice £100,000.00 Sponsorship of T ® NSPC ® Royal Academy of Music £10,000.00 Scholarship for a child violinist with special needs. This purpose built environment will provide care for children who are recovering from complex surgery or illness. old and suffers cerebral palsy, dystonia and breathing. In January this year Clara's airways suddenly closed and she spent seven months in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evelina London. While in the Paediatric ICU, Clara had four cardiac arrests. Each time the team were there, working together as a unit to resuscitate her. They never gave up. Because her problems were very complicated it was really important that she was well looked after while new solutions were found. By funding the new Intensive Care Unit The Presidents Club is going to have such an impact on the lives of children like Clara, enabling us to provide internationally renowned care to even more children - thank you! A Richard Prince Original Richard Prince is one of the most prominent artists working today. With 8 figure single auction sales, endless museum shows and recognition as one of the most important artists of his generation, itis with litte surpri that his work is sought after by the world’s top collectors. Richard Prince, Untitled (Oh), 2010, Ink jet on canvas 39 1/4 x 30 inches, 99.7 x 76.2.cm Since the beginning of his career Richard Prince has borrowed imagery from mass media, advertisements, and the entertainment industry, challenging and redefining the definition and relevance of authorship. With other peoples’ work as his vehicle, Prince has created a multitude of signature bodies of work, each demonstrating the artis’s wit and ability to subtly re-contextualise the original source material. Prince light-heartedly appropriates soft porn in his series of Oh paintings (from which this work is taken). He uses stickers to hide his subjects, though provides no further explanation as to the purpose of the shapes that conceal them. Such an approach exemplifies Prince's work, with the viewer never quite sure as to whether the artist’s intent comes from a place of mischievousness, seriousness, or both, Regardless, the art world establishment has embraced Prince's work, with countless records and 8 figure sales of individual works often stealing the limelight. Prince was born in 1949 in the Panama Canal Zone. His work has been the subject of major solo exhibitions and are in the public collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas; Museum of Fine Arts Collection, Boston; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
