Sunday, January 28, 2018 Fourth Sunday After Epiphany

A Peek At The Sunday Sermon

This Matter of Divine Healing
Acts 14:8-18
A special service is planned for Sunday, January 28th. The hymns we
will sing, the prayers we pray, the sermon preached – all will help us
focus on this matter of divine healing.

The sermon is centered around the

first recorded miracle of Paul’s
ministry as he heals a man who is
crippled. As pictured in the painting,
Paul has been speaking when he sees
a man in need.

Looking straight at him, Paul realized

he had faith to be healed. So Paul
called to him in a loud voice, “Stand
up!” (Acts 14:9-10)

Not only does he stand - he jumps up

and he walks! I believe this New
Testament lesson is a reminder that
we too, like Paul, should strive to
imitate Christ; seeking His power,
exercise our faith, and experiencing
God’s healing grace.

It all begins at 10:00 AM. Come, expecting a blessing!

The first Sunday of 2018 marks the beginning of the

Epiphany season. The liturgical colors have been
changed to green – leading up to the day before Ash
Wednesday and the start of Lent.

Our suggested Scripture reading for January 28, 2018, from the 2018 UCC
Church Calendar:
Mark 1:21-28 (NLT)
Jesus Casts Out an Evil Spirit
21 Jesus and his companions went to the town of Capernaum. When the Sabbath
day came, he went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were
amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike the teachers
of religious law.
23 Suddenly, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried
out, 24 “Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to
destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
25 But Jesus reprimanded
him. “Be quiet! Come out of the
man,” he ordered. 26 At that, the
evil spirit screamed, threw the
man into a convulsion, and then
came out of him.
27 Amazement gripped the
audience, and they began to
discuss what had happened.
“What sort of new teaching is
this?” they asked excitedly. “It
has such authority! Even evil
spirits obey his orders!” 28 The
news about Jesus spread quickly
throughout the entire region of
Galilee.
