Aria
This piece from the Munich lute-book is a free transcription of the aria Dighi che io son
Jfedele from the Opera Alessandro nell'Indie by J. A. Hasse.
Hasse was a native of Germany who went to Naples as a young man and studied under
Alessandro Scarlatti. After achieving success and an international reputation in Italy he
returned to Germany where he continued composing operas in the Italian style in the
employment of the Elector of Saxony. He was married to Faustina, an opera singer of
considerable talent and fiery temperament.
Technically straightforward, the aria should provide pleasant and melodious sight-
reading practice.
(1) When the fourth finger slides from B to A the hand should move with it in anticipation
of the second position bar.
(2) The ligado from G# to F# is not as hard as it seems if the 3rd finger is firmly placed in
advance. The reason for the fingering isto release the 2nd finger for the Bon the 6th tring.
(The move to the high C should be precise and unhurried.
Suggested tempo is J = 76.
