Dear Prof.

Yasuhisa Ikeda,

I Manish Kumar Sinha from CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, India writing this
mail with earnest desire for a Post-doctoral position in your esteemed group. I have been
followed your research work and highly informative publications in the area of "extraction of
lanthanides, lanthanides complexes and ionic liquids for metal extraction"; that encouraged
me to apply in your group.

I have submitted my Ph.D. thesis entitled “Hydrometallurgical recovery of metal values

from secondary resources” in January 2017. Currently, my thesis is under review and I am
expecting to get awarded the doctoral degree in the next 2-3 months.

During my Ph.D. program, I have been actively involved in the area of recovery of ‘base and
rare earth metals’ from a variety of solid and liquid wastes like spent iron and brass pickling
solutions, and E-wastes, waste permanent magnets and fluorescent lamps etc. In the due
course, I have optimized the solvent extraction and separation processes to recover the multi-
metals such as Fe/Zn, Cu/Zn, Co/rare earth metals using various extractants including the use
of Ionic liquids (ILs). During this period, I also gathered excellent hands on skills in the
hydrometallurgical processes such as leaching (acid/alkaline), solvent extraction separation /
purification, and hydrothermal or precipitation processes and recovery of metals through the
synthesis of value added products such as Fe2O3, Cu powder, ZnO, Sm2O3, Co3O4 etc. of high
purity suitable for specific applications. Consequent to my research activities I have 12
research articles in the leading International Journals. Besides, I learnt to use the
characterization tools while applying the instruments like XRD, SEM-EDAX, FT-IR, AAS
and UV-VIS spectrophotometer and also developed a sound knowledge in conventional
analysis of ferrous and non-ferrous metals like Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Co and Rare earths etc.
Currently, I am involved in the extraction and separation of rare earth metals from the leach
solutions of permanent magnets using Ionic Liquids.

I wish to expand my research domain and have deep desire to work with you
on hydrometallurgical processing to the resource recovery/recycling, materials synthesis and
such related areas.

With these words I do believe that I can contribute significantly while working in your
group activity in the area of hydrometallurgy. It is my humble request to you that if there is
any vacant position in your group for postdoctoral research please give me the opportunity.

In this regard, I am herewith attaching my CV including the list of publications for your
reference.

Looking forward to receive a positive response at your convenience.

Thanks and Regards,

Manish Kumar Sinha
