Arts Education Aims and Objectives in Summary:

At TJS, we recognise that each of The Arts is a fundamental subject in its own right and as such,
has its own aims and objectives which are expanded in their own policy documents. Listed here
are generic aims relevant to all areas of The Arts.

Through our Arts provision, we aim to:


 Deliver a broad arts-rich curriculum where children engage with a wide variety of art
forms
 Increase active and independent involvement in cultural opportunities.
 Strengthen partnerships and build new partnerships which make the arts sustainable
and bring benefit to our children and the wider community
 To nurture artistic talent and develop children’s transferable life skills that arise from
successful arts education, including the creative use of imagination and considered
risk taking, co-operation, tenacity, flexibility and responsibility as well as leadership
and entrepreneurial skills

LEARNING IN THE ARTS:


Children will learn:
 To engage with a variety of art forms, to explore values, attitudes, feelings and meanings
 To be inspired by the arts and achieve success through the arts
 To develop the ability to create, appreciate and make critical judgements about artworks
 To work independently and in teams, to share arts experiences and present artworks to others
 To develop an understanding of the role of the arts in society, including as a career aspiration

LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS:


Children will learn:
 To understand and value different points of view.
 To develop problem solving and thinking skills
 To develop questioning skills for enquiry, research and investigation
 To develop curiosity and playfulness
 To work together, sharing ideas and learning from each other
 To develop communication skills
 To develop resilience, perseverance and stamina
 To develop skills of observation and perception
 To become reflective and analytical
 To develop self- esteem and emotional literacy
 To engage with learning through The Arts
