White supremacy is the belief that white people are a superior race compared to people of other racial
backgrounds. The term is sometimes used specifically to describe a political ideology that advocates white
persons social and political and economic dominance over those considered non-whites. Additionally, these
groups can be subdivided into three ideological categories.
• Neo-Nazi groups have a stated and publicized hatred for Jews and a love for Adolf Hitler and Nazi
Germany. Neo-Nazis also hate other minorities, homosexuals and sometimes Christians. However,
“the Jew” is perceived as their principal enemy. Their ideology traces current social problems to a
Jewish conspiracy, which supposedly controls governments, financial institutions and the media.
• Racist Skinheads are a more violent element of the white supremacist movement, and are sometimes
referred to as the “shock troops” of the revolution to come. The classic Skinhead look is a shaved
head, black Doc Martens boots, jeans with
suspenders and an array of typically racist
tattoos, however recent reporting indicates
that members do attempt to conceal their
membership by not adhering to “skinhead”
uniform and appearance standards.
• White nationalist groups promote white
supremacist or white separatist ideologies,
often focusing on the alleged genetic, physical,
and mental inferiorities of non-whites. Groups
listed in a variety of other categories - Ku Klux
Klan, neo-Confederate, neo-Nazi, racist
skinhead, and Christian Identity - could also
be fairly described as white nationalist. Photo from Oi Fest 2008
