Installation Process >>
SURFCAM Traditional 2017 R2 uses the new Vero installer which will install
multiple components during the installations process. Since several component
technologies are shared across brands, they are installed individually. The
installation will install:
• SolidLink – The core engine for cad file imports
• CLS 2017 – The license manager updated for 2017
• Surfcam Traditional – The required pre-requisites and Surfcam Traditional 2017 R2
• Surfcam Migration Tool
NOTE: The installation should only be started by running the “StartHere.hta” file
included on the installation disk. Installing Surfcam through setup.exe will leave the
installation in a non-functioning state.

With the splash screen displayed, start the process by clicking “Install Surfcam
Traditional 2017 R2”. A batch file will install the needed components.

SpaceBall/Mouse Settings >>

Space Mouse rotations are now based on frames per second value.

Functionality
Regen Reselect of Hole Pattern Geometry >>
Hole pattern pre-selection of the original geometry
Select a hole pattern operation, regenerate and reselect the geometry

The original holes will be preselected allowing you to select/deselect holes that
will be added to or removed from the operation.

To remove the pre-selection, activate Deselect then press Visible.

Functionality
Dynamic Geometry Creation >>
A new event driven interactive user interface has been created for certain new
command. This new UI will allow users to preview geometry before it is created
and change the properties of the item(s) being created.

Create Line Radial >>

Create Line Radial uses the interactive dialog features to produce lines in the
plane of the arc radiating from the arc/circle selected.

Select a circle or arc to create the lines

Upon selecting the arc there are 6 lines created and displayed in the screen
immediately using the dialog’s information above. Any changes to the dialog
information will be reflected dynamically on the screen.
Selecting Apply will create the lines and allow selection of another arc.

Create Line Polygon >>
While we have previously been able to create a polygon using Edit Increment;
this dedicated command includes some additional features and uses the new
interactive dialog.

Select a location for the Polygon

Upon selecting the location a polygon is created and displayed in the screen
immediately using the dialog’s information above. Any changes to the dialog
information will be reflected dynamically on the screen.
Selecting Apply will create the polygon and allow selection of another location.

Functionality
Create Hole Pattern >>
Hole pattern extends the Create Points Rectangular and Circular functionality to
allow the creation of the 2, 3, or 4 circles with the centerline that define a hole
with a single command.
The use of the interactive dialogs is a natural extension allowing the user to
change the pattern, position hole sizes and depths while seeing a preview of
what will be created.

Functionality
Edit Flatten >>
The ability to flatten geometry within the current view has been added under the
Edit section with the Flatten command. This provides the ability to generate 2D
geometry for profiles and silhouettes.
The command is very simple, any visible wireframe geometry and tool paths will
be flattened in the current VIEW (note: the construction view is ignored). If you
want to flatten surfaces, switch to wireframe and it will flatten the surface curves.
The flattened geometry will be created in the current color on the current layer.

Looking at the before and after pictures above you can see that the after view
shows the projected curves that are now flattened. It is recommended that you
select a new layer prior to flattening. Rotating the view will show the newly
flattened geometry more clearly.

Translucent Dialogs >>
Since the Layers and the Operations Manager dialogs are both quite large and
allow for dynamic highlighting, providing the ability to see through them is an
advantage.
Both the layers and the operations manager dialogs can be made translucent.

Press CTRL + and CTRL – to change the global setting for all translucent dialogs.
