Power Design Analysis Report ‐ 4/11/2016
Section 1 – General Description
The purpose of this report is to document the conditions of location of data, analysis,
methodology and conclusions reached concerning the power systems designed for the FTE
Minneola Interchange ITS project. The Power Design Analysis Report (PDAR) includes: Load
Analysis, Voltage Drop calculations, Short Circuit Current Analysis, Arc Flash Hazard Analysis, and
Power Service Coordination.
Section 2 – Load Analysis
The results of load analysis are provided in Appendix A as part of panelboard schedules given on
the ITS contract drawings. The results are summarized in panelboard schedules based on
connected and demand loads. The total loads for branch and main feeder circuits in terms of
amps are less than the branch and main circuit breaker current ratings.
Section 3 – Voltage Drop Calculations
Voltage drop calculations were conducted for a combination of feeder and branch circuits with
the longest runs, highest loads, or worst case scenarios within the project limits. An acceptable
voltage drop criteria of less than 5% is obtained for combination of branch and feeder circuits.
The results of voltage drop calculations for the load centers are provided in the Appendix B. The
conduits are properly sized to ensure the power conductors can be pulled from pull box to pull
without complication and to meet NEC requirements.
Section 4 – Short Circuit Current Analysis
The Short Circuit Current Analysis (SCCA) performed for this submittal is based on estimated
available fault currents on the secondary sides of the local power company’s transformers. The
analysis was performed at all service locations designed in and impacted by this project. ETAP
Version 12.6.0 is used to create models of each electrical distribution systems from the utility
service transformer through the load center to the first branch circuit device. Data collected
from conversations with the utility, site investigation, record documentation, and proposed
design are used to best model the electrical systems. All calculated results will be included in
Appendix C.

Section 5 – Arc Flash Hazard Analysis
Arc Flash Hazard Analysis (AFHA) performed for this submittal is based on estimated available
fault currents on the secondary sides of the local power company’s transformers. The local
power company is in process of providing information on their proposed transformers including
available fault currents and all short circuit current calculations will be updated for the final
submittal. The AFHA calculations will be performed using ETAP Version 12.6.0, and results will be
based on the IEEE 1584 method which will be provided in Appendix D. The available short circuit
current provided by the utility may be a worst case calculation assuming an infinite bus on the
primary and the lowest possible transformer impedance the utility would ever install. As the
available fault currents for the sites investigated will not exceed 25kA the tables provided in
NFPA 70E are applicable for use in the Turnpike’s Employee Safety Program. NFPA 70E (2012)
Table 130.7(C)(15)(a) Hazard/Risk Category provides recommended Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE) that, as a minimum, should be utilized for different types of tasks. Refer to the ITS
Power Service Details in the ITS plans for this project for Arc Flash Warning Label Information.
Section 6 – Power Company Correspondence
AECOM started the coordination process by first identifying the local power utility company in
the vicinity of the project: SECO. Multiple phone conversations with the power company
representatives have been made in order to provide them with a detailed description of the
project, discussing the project’s power requirements, and providing them with the appropriate
information to establish the power service locations and requirements. The standard operating
voltage for the proposed ITS is 120/240V, single phase, 3‐Wire system. See Appendix E for
the service point letter from SECO, which contains the maximum available short circuit current. .

Power Design Analysis Report ‐ 4/11/2016
Customer Name: NEW MINNEOLA TRNPIKE
Date: 03-25-2016
The calculated maximum available short circuit current (SCA) requested at the point of
delivery for the above referenced service location is 5,482 amps at the secondary
terminals of the transformer. According to the plans submitted the site will be served by a
single 25 kva total, 1 phase, 120/240v URD/TX
Because of constant changes in our system due to load growth, the available short circuit
current could increase over time. Electrical protective equipment should therefore be
checked periodically to insure its adequacy. Sumter Electric Cooperative will furnish this
information any time on request.
If further information is desired, please contact your local Sumter Electric Cooperative
engineering representative.
Thank you,
