10. Course Objective:
This course aims to provide complete overview of the normal full blood picture and
changes in blood components due to congenital and acquired haematological disorders.
Make the students understand laboratory aspects of haematological disorders and in
blood transfusion.
11 Course Learning Outcomes:
After completing this course, students should be able to:
1. Describe the structure and function of normal blood components and their normal
values, and to identify the production of blood elements.
2. Explain and discover the type of anaemia by morphological classification and
diagnostic approaches.
3. Describe the nature of leukaemia and aetiological factors in leukaemia plus the
prognosis of leukaemia patients.
4. Identify the morphology and function of platelets and the investigation for the extent
of abnormal bleeding and coagulation disorders.
5. Illustrate the types and clinical features of lymphomas and discuss pathology arising
from marrow stem.
6. Identify the components of the blood that must be investigated before blood
transfusion and discuss the hazards of blood transfusion.
12. Course Synopsis:
This course provides students with basic science in haematology, haematopoiesis (red
blood cell, white blood cells and platelets), haematological disorders including red
blood cell disorders, white blood cells disorders, platelet disorders, coagulation
disorders, lymphomas, myeloproliferative disorders and blood transfusion. Laboratory
aspects of haematological investigations in diagnosis of disorders will be covered in
practical
