ISMC XI TRAINING 2016

Gold and Copper Mining Company PT. Freeport Indonesia will undertake development
activities on Mine Underground mining system. As a team Blasting Engineer, you are given the
responsibility to open lines of tunnel (tunneling) to the orebody.

Notes:

- Dimensions of tunnel is 1500 m length and 88 m2 cross-sectional area.

- Blasthole diameter is 38mm and the tunnel wall is blasted using smooth blasting.
- Drilling equipment is electro hydraulic jumbo drill, with a 4.3 m length rod and 3.9 m
feed travel.
- Advance expected is 90% of the blasthole depth.
- Emulite BP-150 in 25 x 200 mm and 32 x 200 mm dynamite for cut, stoping and floor.
- Gurit 17 x 500 mm in plastic dynamite used for contouring.
- Firing using Nonel GT/T.
- To get the advance of more than 85% from blasthole depth (3.9 m), 127 mm empty hole
or alternatively 2 x 89 mm empty hole can be selected.
- Use four squares for the cuthole calculation.

Questions:

- Calculate the measurement of cuthole, stoping, floor, wall and roof.

- Specify the charge concentration of cuthole, stoping, floor, wall and roof.
- Calculate the total explosive consumption.
- Draw the blasting series.

PELATIHAN ISMC X 2016

Limestone mining company PT. Frans' Hatrack will carries out mining activities in Jl.
Inajadulu, Ngambang Hamlet, Hanteman Village, Garing District, Sekali District. Field
observations and laboratory tests indicate that the condition of the rock is thin well-cemented
layers with tight joint, but it’s so hard and dense, so the company chose to do mine using
blasting. The expected production is 5,000,000 tons / year. Blasting work will be carried out
every day (1 year = 12 months, 1 month = 25 working days; 1 day = 8 hours).
Limestone bulk density is 2.35 tonnes / m3. Charge is ANFO with a density of 0.85 g / cc;
SG = 0.9; Stv = 100 and VOD = 3500 m / sec. (bulk density of normal rock = 160 lb / cuft;
standard explosives density = 1.2 and standard explosives VOD = 12.000 fps). Vertical blast
holes with a diameter of 3.5 inches.
Fragmentation from blasting results should be good and the impact on the environment
(air blasts, fly rock, and ground vibration) less.
Notes:
- Determine the blasting geometry, if it uses parallel drilling pattern, box cut blasting
patterns and simultaneously blast in a single row and a row between rows. (It will be
three rows)
- Burden must be corrected
- Draw the blasting geometry (top view and side view) in accordance with the amount of
blasthole, complete with scale, dimensions, and sequence of blasting. (Use graph paper
blocks)
- Determine the daily requirement amount of explosives (ANFO), primary, and detonator
- Calculate Powder Factor (Specific Charge)
- Determine the method of blasting / circuit to be used followed by the type of initiation.
(specify tools and equipment)

Limestone mining company PT. Frans' Hatrack will carry out mining activities.
Exploration and laboratory tests indicate that the condition of the rock is very hard and has a
stocky dense, so the company chose to use blasting. The expected production is 15 million tons /
year. Loss prediction related to the mine activity is 5%. Blasting activity will be carried out every
day (1 year = 12 months, 1 month = 25 working days; 1 day = 8 hours).
Bulk density of limestone is 2.35 tonnes / m3. Charge is using ANFO which density =
0.85 g / cc; SG = 0.9; Stv = 100 and VOD = 3500 m / sec. (bulk density of normal rock = 160 lb

Dayagel Magnum Primary is 1 pcs (@ 250 grams) per hole. Vertical blast holes with a diameter
of 3.5 inches.
Fragmentation from blasting results should be good and the impact on the environment
(airblasts, fly rock, and ground vibration) is less.

Notes:

- Determine the blasting geometry, if it is 4 lines / blasting, using parallel pattern, box cut,
simultaneous pattern in a single row and streak pattern between rows. Use the RL. Ash
method with Ks = 1,75; Kt = 0,75; Kh = 4; Kj = 0,3.
- Draw the blasting geometry (top and side view) in accordance with the amount of
explosive hole, complete with scale, dimensions, and sequence of blasting.
- Determine the amount of explosives (ANFO) and primary daily requirement.
- Determine the Powder Factor (Specific Charge).
- Determine the blasting method / circuit which will be used along with the type of
initiation. (Specify the tools and equipment)
- The draw map must be similar with the reality.
- Give the conclusion from the data calculation.
