installation
B.0 Minor updates 2010-03-08
Hazardous voltage and energy levels are maintained inside the system,
which may cause a danger of serious electric shocks or burns.
Means of connection to an AC mains supply shall be permanent connection. All OPUS systems are
provided with the terminals for permanent connection to the AC mains supply. For a permanent
connection, a readily accessible disconnect device must be incorporated in the building installation
wiring. Recommended external mains fuse and minimum mains feed cable size can be found from
the particular system schematics and from the datasheets.
All MRC rectifiers employ an internal fuse on its line (L) connection. If it
cannot be ensured that the line of the AC mains is connected to the line
contact of the rectifier, the unit may remain energized after operation of the
fuse
Efore Plc. does not recommend shipping the power system with the rectifiers installed. Rectifiers
should be shipped in separate boxes provided by Efore Plc. All work affecting the device must be
carried out according to the following general rules:
For the connection or disconnection of electrical circuits, use only the proper
tools.
When working on parts bearing a hazardous voltage, use only tools intended
for the work in question.
When measuring parts with a voltage, use the proper measuring instruments.
When the battery is connected, beware that the unit may contain a hazardous
energy level. Follow the directives on electrical safety and other, official
requirements.
2.2. Warning
Any changes or modifications to this unit without the prior approval of the party responsible for said
compliance may void the user’s authority to operate this equipment.
3. SYSTEM INSTALLATION
The following will guide you during the installation of an OPUS 19” rack power system and OPUS
cabinet system.
If the system is transported and/or stored in humid conditions and the package
is opened or damaged, the system must be dried in the operating environment
at least 24 hours before start-up.
3.1. Preparation
After removing the DC power system and rectifiers from the boxes and packing material, perform the
following actions:
• Inspect for any shipping and/or other damage
• Contact sales or technical support immediately if you discover any damage
• Have all the required tools, wires, cables, hardware etc., within easy reach
• Ensure as clean (free of debris, dust, foreign material, etc.) a work environment as possible
• Ensure that all AC and DC power sources are switched o and disconnected

The OPUS cabinet system consist of an enclosure mechanics, terminal blocks for AC mains
connection, 4-pole mains switch, VIDI+ system controller modules, battery connections and DC load
distribution. Depending on the cabinet version, there are places for no more than 6 or 12 MRC
rectifiers. The cabinet system may also include a battery. In the OPUS cabinet system, each rectifier
AC mains input and each rectifier DC output is equipped with MCBs (Figure 7). OPUS cabinet system
can be delivered with negative grounded, positive grounded or floating DC distribution. Distribution
connections can be 1- or 2-pole MCB’s (Figure 7) or NH00 fuse links. Cabinet system can includes up
to 4 battery connection fuses and optional battery and load LVD’s. The standard OPUS system
includes 2 universal alarm inputs and 4 alarm relay outputs. Additional 8-alarm inputs and 8-alarm
relay outputs are available with an optional extension board. A system-level earth fault detection
alarm is available for floating systems as an option. The OPUS system also provides RS232 and
Ethernet connections for remote control. An electrical circuit description is given in the system’s
main circuit diagram and the main parts layout is shown in the system layout diagram. Regarding
comprehensive system features, refer to the particular system in question and the MRC rectifier
datasheet.

3.4. AC Installation
1 1
In the 19” rack 12U systems the mains input current of line 1 and line 2 is
double compared to the current of line 3 when more than 3 rectifiers are
Note assembled in the rack. Take this in to account when dimensioning eternal
mains fuses and cables. Recommended external mains fuse is 3*25A and
minimum wire gauge is 6mm².

Mains input line currents of the cabinet system are not equal if the number
of rectifier modules in the system is not a multiple of 3. Take this into
Note account when dimensioning external mains fuses and cables. Recommended
external mains fuse is 3*25A and minimum mains feed cable wire gauge is 6
mm². Please check recommended values from the particular system
schematics and from the data sheets.
Remove the access protection cover before starting installation. In the rack systems DC load
connections are accomplished via 1- or 2-pole MCBs, according to the system grounding. In addition,
DC load connection can be carried out alternatively via NH00 fuse links in the cabinet systems.
Before installation, check the system grounding. Make sure that the loads
! are connected accordingly. A wrong connection can cause serious damage to
the loads.

busbar above.
Figure 18 DC distribution of the positive grounded cabinet system. Distribution fuses below and
the earth terminal on the upper left corner.
For the reliable operation of the distribution fuse alarms, it is important that
! the monitoring wire of the corresponding MCB is fixed when mounting load
wires.
When the load fuse is in the OFF position, and if system is equipped with
! alarm adapters (X11 – X22), disconnect the corresponding alarm adapter
before disconnecting the load wire (see Figures 17 & 18).
Make sure that the battery polarity is connected correctly. A wrong battery
! connection may cause serious damage to the system.
4. SYSTEM STARTUP
Before installing rectifiers and starting up the system, check the following:
! All battery fuses are switched off.
All rectifier mains fuses (MCBs) FG1 - FGx are switched off.
If included in the system, all rectifier output fuses FG1.1 – FGx.1 are switched
off.
All distribution fuses (MCBs) are switched off.
Check that the polarity of the batteries is correct.
Earth connections have been performed properly.
Touch protections are in place.
Mains feed connection in the OPUS cabinet systems is identical to rack system. In other words,
rectifiers G1, G4, G7 and G10 are connected to mains line L1. Accordingly, rectifiers G2, G5, G8 and
G11 are connected to mains line L2 and rectifiers G3, G6, G9 and G12 to mains line L3.
Once all rectifiers have been installed, and the connections secured and checked, sequential system
power up can begin.
• Switch on the rectifier mains fuse FG1.
• Turn on the main switch in cabinet systems.
• Switch on the rectifier output fuse FG1.1 (only in 110VDC, 125VDC and 220VDC systems)
• Wait until the indication LED of the MRC rectifier turns green.
• Check from the controller display that the rectifier is placed in the corresponding slot (G1-Gx)
and the mains phase (L1, L2 and L3) is correct. If the rectifier location and proposed slot do not
match, update accordingly through the VIDI system controller user interface. Approve the
changes.
• Repeat the above actions for all rectifiers installed in the system. Leave the unused MCB fuses in
the OFF position.
• Check from the system controller that the system DC voltage is correct.
• Check that the battery polarity is correct.
• Connect the battery to the system by switching on the corresponding battery fuse
• Unused battery fuses must be switched to the ON position to avoid false alarms.
• Connect the loads by switching on the corresponding MCBs. We recommend that you leave any
unused miniature circuit breakers in the OFF position.
Detailed system controller functionality, system configuration and parameter setting are described in
the OPUS Power System User Manual.
