Evolution of manufacturing technology has
been a definitive indicator of human
society’s development. From the wheels that
started the spree to the world of machines
that have revolutionized the manufacturing
processes, manufacturing tools have been
indicative of eras of development. In this
paper, we have focused on the branch of
engineering that deals with manufacturing-
specifically its structure in India. In this
study we investigate some premier
government institutes with respect to
Manufacturing Engineering Education. We
have also included the technical education
model at different education level.

ABSTRACT
A tremendous amount of research work
covering different topics has been done in
very many areas of production engineering.
However, economists are not satisfied with
the accomplishments in the production
engineering areas. Reasons that have been
outlined are, first, very strong limitation of
the whole spectrum of resources; and
second, the spectacular computer
development. It has been a challenge for
engineers to design, plan and control
industrial resources through new production
systems new engineering products. On the
other hand, computer technology is pushing
our industrial society into a new era, the
informatization society. This new
technological threshold has been termed as
“cybernetic automatization.” The
achievement of this defined goal supposes
the development of at least two new
engineering directions, software and
hardware engineering and intelligence
engineering. In spite of the impressive
computer developments there are still
limitations in wider applications. The
making of very large scale integrated
circuits and massive storage memory
devices, and the development of new higher
level languages will cause significant
changes in the present-day situation. The
design and installation of mock-up
laboratory models at universities which
cover industrial activity segments will give a
new approach to high-level education of
engineers and to research activities.
