Panjgran LA II tehsil Patika Naseerabad and District Muzaffarabad, AJK. This report defines about
village, trainer, trainees and over all working in the center. Activities and achievements of this SDC are
part of the report, along with the role of the partners i.e. Danish Muslim Aid, Karwan Development
Foundation & Hamza Development Foundation. This report tells about completion of 1st and 2nd batch
in SDC. There were 50 females who learnt course of stitching for 3 months simultaneously. Now the
2nd batch has completed the course. And center will be shifted to other village.

The main objective of running this project is to provide the skill to females to earn their living. The
skills are cutting, stitching and sewing of different designs of dresses. In this age of dearness every
female can’t afford stitching expenses and in a family of 6 members at any occasion gives 3000

household clothes are stitched in 350 rupees in villages and other in 500 to 2500. This skill not only
saves money of females but it’s a source of earning. Females can lift the financial burden of their
father, brother or husband.

Need Assessment:
HDF visited village Daiwlian, team met with group of
girls and take the interviews and general discussion
with girls. There were elders also at that time they
have also discussed the girls’ issues in village. If we
talk about young girls’ education few of young girls
are between matric to intermediate. After school
females has no activity except pasturing the cattle
and household works. As villagers life is tough and
mothers can’t teach her daughters any skill that’s
why they need an SDC which can teach them which
they want to learn about sewing. Females want to
learn the skill to uplift their lives as well to utilize their potentials. There were number of
females who want to learn, but we suggested to enroll only 25 females and remaining can
be included in next session.

Trainer’s Profile:
SDC trainer’s name is Shazia Abdul Hannan. Residential of village Ratra. She also learnt the skill from
government institute. She got one year diploma in stitching course. Now she has been expert in her
skill and she can work on cutting, stitching gabba sazi, paper mashi, wool work, these are extra skill
except stitching. However after 5 batch teaching at two locations we can say that she has ability to
run the SDC in efficient way.

On the time of assessment trainees were verbally interviewed and selected. In SDC there is no criteria
of selection but the trainees should willing to learn. However after starting of batch an admission form
was given to SDC teacher in which trainees’ necessary information and guardian permission is required
for admission. Only those trainees are enrolled whom guardian allow them. The enrollment of trainees
is finalized in first week of starting.

About Course & Trainees:

There were 24 girls in 1st batch and 25 girls in 2nd batch for 3 month course of cutting, stitching,
sewing, paper mashi work.

First Month of Course: The first month course

was comprising of drafting and cutting. Drafting
is executed on sheets and then cutting on
newspapers with hands. Trainees also sewed
pieces of newspapers with their hands as well
on sewing machines. Teacher taught them
different designs of frauks and suits. The
maximum drafting was carried out on shining
and colorful paper sheets because it looks
fantastic after sewing. The trainees sew the
shining pieces of sheets with thrills and
motivation.

The first month is of great important in the

course time period, in first month the basics of
cutting and sewing are taught to trainees.
Names of material being used and especially
their utilization and then practice of using is
done in first month.
Thus the major mistakes are removed and
maximum learning is gain in this period, on the
basis of this next progress and practice depends upon. Hence this first session is important
for both trainer and trainees.

Second Month of Course: After this training

they started sewing the clothes on rough cloth as
well on newspapers. This time they have to sew
the full dress at newspaper. Before using the
fabrics trainees make the design on newspaper
and stitch the newspaper into full dress so she
can come to know about mistakes in dress and
correction opportunity becomes double. This
practice of one month make them enable to sew
the fare clothes. It was good to see that trainees
were divided into groups for smoothly and learnt-full working environment in which each girls can
learn well.

Third Month of Course: After experience on

rough clothes, trainees are provided good clothes
of different colors, they sew different designs of
clothes, one thing important that trainees did not
use any external material like designing strips
(lasses) instead this they use clothes pieces and
used them as decorated strips, this practice
explore their potential of designing by using
limited resources and Now after the completion
of course trainees can sew the clothes of
different designs. Besides soot trainees also
learnt to make show pieces with wool threads.
Made frames of different designs using simple threads.

Trainees Feedback:
Shakeela Bibi: I live in this village Daiwlian, due to
this center we learnt cutting, stitching and sewing
of clothes and now we are able to sew our own
clothes. I am married and having 3 children now I
can sew the clothes of my children which save the
money.

This skill not only enabled us to sew our clothes

but now we will sew the clothes of our neighbor,
often it happens here that tailor works in main
bazar which is far and it is difficult for female to
approach there. This skill make us skilled females
and now we don’t depends upon tailors.

Amina Ali Zaman: she said that I was very happy

to hear about establishment of skill center here
in our village and at our door steps. Although we
females are not too much educated but we have
no technical education or skill which we can
utilize to change our lives.

We are thankful to DM AID and KDF for their

grate support and due to this skill center we
learnt the 3 month course of stitching and we are
able to sew the clothes and it pleasure for me
that for the first time I sewed my own clothes.
Monitoring of the SDC:
The course time line was 3 months for each batch. During this tenure visits were ensured to SDC,
except giving them skill is was important to build the capacity of students so that beside skill they

During visits the trainees were asked about their learnings and teachers teaching, attendance register
was checked and an application system was there for leave. After satisfaction from performance of
SDC program officer signed on registered.

It was also look after that equipment should be in well condition enough good to bear hardness of
hands of untrained trainees for the three months.

Outcomes of SDC:
Skill Development Center has equipped the 50 girls which are able to sew not only their family clothes
but also can earn by sewing clothes from outside.

Besides learning skills trainees also learnt social activities like speech, singing national songs and
capacity to talk with confidence.

With stitching course they also learn to make purses of different designs. Local hand made products
like floor cushions from wheat straws covered with pieces of clothes. Dust bins from oil container of
5 kg covered with well-designed and decorated covers made on shuneel cloth.

The Skill Development Center has also given opportunity to the girls to come out form daily routine
work which make their lives deaf and dull. This activity learnt them a new interesting skill and also
expenses saving which now they can use in any other need.
