The Indianola T-shirt Project

The IBIC has been offering t-shirts now for
generaDons. Many of us have fond memories of the
Dme when we purchased or were given an Indianola
t-shirt. We are bringing back everyone’s t-shirt
memories by photographing the historical designs
and posDng the pictures on IBIC’s website at hPp://

If you would like to add your favorite t-shirt design

To All Our Indianola Friends:

It is January 2018 and has been 5 months since our grandson, Russell Smith,
started his journey with a peripheral blood stem cell transplant to try and
eradicate his Chronic Granulomatous Disease (an inherited primary
immunodeficiency disease in which his immune system was not able to protect
his body from bacteria and fungi).

If you are friends with Jessie on Facebook, you have been able to follow
Russell’s progress with her posts, but for everyone else, we wanted to let you
know how he has done. Jessie & Russell moved to SeaPle on August 2 to begin
his transplant procedure. He was in Children’s for 8 weeks, then stayed in a
transplant apartment unDl he was able to come home on November 30. The
process was amazing but very difficult to be the caregiver 24x7, one minute he

would be laughing, the next angry or in pain and not being able to really explain to a 3 ½ year old why he is going
through all of this. As of today, Russell is doing very well but because his new immune system is not 100%, we sDll
must be very careful against viruses and germs unDl his 1-year anniversary.
We want to thank everyone that donated their Dme, donaDons and aucDon items to Russell’s Spaghe] Feed last July.
Jessie was able to take a LOA from work to stay with Russell and not worry about bills building up.
Thank each one of you who kept us in your prayers, thoughts and for all your well wishes. Indianola is such a
wonderful place to spend your life and raise your children and grandchildren.
We love our Indianola Family,

Jessie, Reuben, Russell & Makinley Smith, and Jerome & Debbie Lemickson

2017 Year End Finance Report
In 2017 IBIC’s income $95,976 exceeded expenses $91,666. Year-end cash reserves total $131,711.

Income and expenses are grouped into eight categories. (See graph below)

IBIC’s Membership is our most important source of income. Proper,es is by far IBIC’s biggest expense, which includes taxes,
uDliDes, maintenance & repairs, capital improvements, security and clubhouse cleaning. Property income comes from two
sources: the Post Office and clubhouse rental. Merchandise is sold at the clubhouse on Saturdays and on is on consignment at
the Indianola Store. This is an important source of income as well as a way to promote community spirit. Indianola Days is the
highlight of the year including the salmon dinner, stunt night, dance, beach and street events. Dona, ons income comes from
generous members who give something extra. In 2017, Mr. Greg Mackie made a very large cash plus non-cash donaDon to
upgrade the club’s sound system and stage. Thank you Greg! IBIC sponsored Community Events include children and adult
acDviDes, the Holiday Art Fair, soup and chili cook-offs, children’s Christmas party, & Movie Nights, to name a few. IBIC’s monthly
newslePer, The Breeze, has prinDng and mailing costs and income from adverDsing. Business expenses include book keeping, tax
preparaDon, office equipment & supplies, merchant & bank fees etc.

The most important factor in IBIC’s finances is the many volunteers who donate their Dme. Without our valued volunteers the
IBIC could not be able to provide the many community events and services that we enjoy throughout the year. To all the
volunteers THANK YOU for your contribuDon to Indianola Days, maintaining the clubhouse and grounds, building projects, selling
merchandise, children & adult events, beach clean-up, clubhouse rentals, Movie Nights, staffing the library, publishing the
Breeze, organizing the boat storage, Tai Chi classes, Bridge Club, managing the website, filling the MuP MiP dispensers and to the
IBIC trustees who keep everything running smoothly.

Calling all beach lovers!! Come one, come all, to Indianola’s second best event!

Indianola Beach Clean-Up is coming… Saturday, April 28th. We will meet at the head of the
Indianola Dock at 10:00am.
Low Dde is at 10:52. Last year we had enough volunteers to walk the beach from the Enschede stairs to the Indianola Beach
Preserve. We split up to cover segments of the beach with drop off points at four accesses; the Enschede stairs, the Dock, the
Western avenue boat ramp and the Indianola Beach Preserve. We will dispose of the recyclables at the Clubhouse bin and take the
garbage to the Hansville landfill. If you have a pick-up truck and can collect debris from the access points about noon, that would
be terrific. There will be no charge to the community for dumping the garbage or for supplies. The Kitsap County Public Works
Solid Waste Division is providing this support. Our tax dollars at work!

We will provide gloves, orange plasDc bags for garbage and bags for recyclables. Tires, glass, Styrofoam, ne]ng and the variety of
colorful plasDcs will be our collectables. Please contact Pam Dassel at (360)297-2238 if you can offer a truck or if you want to
help in distribu0ng supplies that morning.

Students can receive community service hours for parDcipaDng. We will have forms available.

January 2018 Membership Report

Thank you to all members who renewed in January. There were 186 new or renewing memberships
with a total of $9,780 in dues and $770 in donations to the Breeze, Mutt Mitts, capital improvement
and other unspecified needs. Thank you for your generosity.

Applications are continuing to roll in. If you do not see your name on this list, look for it in the March
Breeze.

Membership forms are also available above the black box on the clubhouse porch. If you have
questions about membership please contact Catherine Freeman at (360)265-8723 or at

Town Projects
Several members of the community and the IBIC Board of Trustees are working to make improvements
around town. The projects suggested for consideration include installation of a fire safety (sprinkler) system
in the Indianola Clubhouse; installation of solar panels to provide energy to the Clubhouse; resurfacing of
the tennis courts; renovation of the boat ramp; replacement of the Big Rock stairs; and renewal or
expansion of the playground at the Clubhouse.

Kitsap County owns the tennis courts, so the IBIC does not have authority to make modifications to them,
but estimates are being obtained for the sprinkler system and solar panels to be installed in the Clubhouse,
as well as the replacement of stairs on the beach access pathways. Once estimates are completed, a team
will begin identifying and writing for grant money to fund as much of each project as possible.

The Breeze will keep the community up to date as plans evolve and, as always, we welcome any
suggestions you might have for other ways in which we might improve our community. Send your ideas in!

Boat Rack Renewal Time

It's that time of year again when it is time to renew your reserved spot on the boat rental rack on the beach. All of
you paid your yearly fee of $30 last year. Most of you took advantage of using the rack.

The fee remains the same this year. The reservation of your space is on a first come first serve basis so the
sooner you pay your fee the more assured you will be of your space. We do have three people waiting for a spot.

If you no longer need your spot please remove your vessel as soon as you receive this and email me your
intentions. This will allow the three people waiting to have the opportunity to occupy your space. If you have not
paid by March 15th, we will assume you no longer intend to rent and will reassign your space.

Checks can be made out to IBIC. Please indicate your name (as listed on reservation) on your check and
send to: IBIC, PO Box 212, Indianola, WA 98342

Or place your check in an envelope labeled Boat Rack Rental and place in drop box on the clubhouse’ front
porch.

Stage Update
The IBIC would like to thank MHP Painting for completing the stage project
last month. Matt Helgeson and Patrick Cameron volunteered their time for
staining the front of the stage and also painting the white area of the stage.
With this work completed, the stage and sound system will be enjoyed by
Indianola residents for years to come.It has been a pleasure working on the
project with all the wonderful volunteers of our unique town! Thank you.
