The traditional concept of practice of law in the Philippines is constantly evolving

as the practice of law by our lawyers is now not confined only in the domestic setting but

involves multijurisdictional legal practice and legal process outsourcing that extends to

international setting. This cross border legal practice is prevalent in our law society but

there is a need to determine the basis for its practice and determine if we have the law for

its regulation as there are various effects of multijurisdictional law practice to our

domestic legal setting.

One legal basis we can find for the multijurisdictional legal practice is General

Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). Materials and research in the Philippines

regarding the application of GATs in the legal profession is very scarce.
