Document Analysis

At Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, the English Department created a checklist

for students, listing all available classes in the department. The checklist is directed to first year

through fourth year students with the suggested semester to take the course. The purpose is to

create a clear outline for students moving toward graduating with an English Degree and identify

the requirements needed to meet each Learning Objective as well as the number of credits per

class.

The Literature Concentration checklist is divided into two major sections; the required

five Learning Objectives and the ten General Education Requirements. The learning objectives

each then list the required topics and classes that will fill these requirements. The second

learning objective can be completed with six classes in the English Department that must fill one

of the following requirements; three must be 200 level, three must be 300-400 level, at least one

should focus on literature before 1660, at least one should focus on linguistics, and at least one

should focus on an underrepresented culture.

The audience of this checklist is predominantly students and faculty. This checklist is

important for faculty because it allows them to narrow in on the subjects of English to be taught

to students, which may help create lesson plans. The primary audience for this checklist is

college students. This was created to help students keep their graduation requirements organized,

while also helping them track past class and plan for future classes. The situation of this
document is productivity; it allows students to produce a vision of their future and create goals to

obtain their degree based on the clearly outlined requirements. This creates a formal, strutted

writing situation that allows readers to have a clear, organized view of the overall message. The

checklist lays out a flexible and estimated timeline of courses which forms a schedule for four

year English major students.
