Inicialmente publicada por E. H. Gombrich em 1950, A História da Arte

apresenta o todo da história da arte ocidental como uma narRativa
cronológica, da pré-história ao presente do autor. O livro é conhecido
como uma das mais acCesiveis introduções as artes visuais e desde então
foram publicadas 16 versões em 30 idiomas. Através desSe procesSo de
traduções e adaptações a obra ganhou cores, legendas cresceram, fold-
outs foram adicionados e novas obras adicionadas. Nele, a história da
arte esta sempre sendo re-escrita por incontáveis vozes.

Mantendo-se fiel ao espirito desSa obra traduzida, copiada, manipulada e

multi-autoral, uma nova adapção acaba de ser criada. A História da Arte
Pirata foi concebida pela artista Beatriz BitTencourt através de um con-
vite aberto a outros artistas pedindo ajuda para a re-invenção deste
livro; para re-pensar o livro-objeto, seu conteúdo e a sua história de
uma maneira que pudesSe ser reproduzida atraves de fotocópias, download e
scan.
O livro final contém 112 paginas do texto original, pirateadas por artis-
tas que desenvolveram interpretações visuais e sonoras das antes austeras
páginas. Gombrich colocou que A História da Arte é a história de “criar
boas imagens” e esta edição leva esSa perspectiva ao extremo. Aqui encon-
tramos uma montagem de estilos, abordagens e práticas que nós oferencem
leituras baseadas em imagens, corReções e novas criações. Interpretações
inesperadas nos obrigam a voltar ao livro original, exigindo indas e
vindas entre os textos, em busca das fontes. Formatado para ser impresSo
digitalmente em branco e preto, como arquivos sonoros e disponivel na
internet, o livro é acCesivel e movél. Esta mutabilidade, mais uma vez,
nos faz recordar que nosSas histórias são tão subjetivas quanto nosSas
leituras.

A História da Arte Pirata foi insipirada por The Piracy Project, um projeto internacional
de exposições e publicações que explora as implicações filosóficas, legais e práticas da
pirataria de livros e de metodos criativos de reprodução. O projeto é co-ordenado por Andrea
Francke e por nós desde a biblioteca da “Byam Shaw”, Londres.

 And there you see the man

The father:
“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh
day from all his work that he had done”. I ask why? Why god, in the top of his omnipotence
needed to rest in the seventh day? Is it because of the hardness of creation or do we need to be
worried on Sundays because God is not looking at us? Is it because God wanted us to know that
we need a day to rest? “On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter,
nor your manservant or maidservant”. I say none of those is the right answer. God didn´t really
create the world in six days. He didn´t rest in the seventh either. The concept of god´s time is not
a measurement. The concept of Gods rest isn´t ours. God actually rested on the seventh day. And
the seventh day is today! We are living the seventh day! The Lord is resting on our souls right
now, people!

The agnostic joker:

It doesn´t make sense to be a rib. Why would it be the fucking rib? He could have chosen the
ring finger, for Christ sake. Do you think he would take a rib off, if Adam were his son? Have
you ever lost a rib? It hurts even to break it, imagine someone taking one out. And then they call
him merciful. My ass, he is merciful. Fucking sadist is what he is. I broke a toe once and it
hurts. Imagine taking one bone out of your body. What about the appendix? I don´t use it for
anything. Do you? Why didn´t he take the appen
dix? My father had to take his appendix out. His life has been just the same after that.

The Rabbi:
And Scientists would say Adam is the product of an evolved fermentation. Or that Adam is a
chain of several atoms. I would respond there´s no Adam, nor Scientist, neither you, nor me.
There´re no muscles, intestines, bones nor skin. There´s nothing in this World but holly energy.

It´s a metaphor. Eva never really ate an apple. She never even talked to a snake. The phallic
shape of the snake and the redness of the apple announce the symbolism of the whole storie.
