Unit 1 Lesson 1: Listing DMO Benefits

ABAP-Based SAP System  HANA DB

- Need to update SAP System

- Use DMO (Database Migration Option) and Software Update Manager (SUM)

Non Unicode systems are no longer supported, Migration procedure may have to cover the Unicode
Conversion as well

DMO and SUM, Procedure is simplified, Sys update and Migration are in ojne tool

Unit 1 Lesson 2: Explaining DMO Basics

SUM: Update SAP System based on NW

DMO: Option of SUM for migration

Software Provisioning Manager

- Tool for system installation, copying and renaming

DMO Rules

- Migration to HANA DB is supported, HANA to HANA Not supported

- DMO only works for ABAP based system, no dual stack option
o DMO keeps app server and SID, no switch possible
o Cant be done with SAP ERP with SAP Enterprise Portal, nor SAP Solution Manager for
NW PI

DMO Phases

1. Preparation such as providing stack xml, passwords, dload folders, only makes users and
schemas
2. Creation of shadow repository on source db., done in uptime
3. Switch to downtime, system no longer available, source DB is still running but cant change data
4. Migration of Application Data
5. Finalize Upgrade and migration, change of SAP kernel
6. Start SAP SYStem on new DB and on new Software release

Unit 2 Lesson 1: Ensure DMO Prerequisites are fulfilled on the host

Requirements for DMO

1. HANA applicance available

2. Dual stack is split beforehand
3. OS/DB are updated
4. Stack.xml and software files are dloaded
5. Web browser updates

DMO Specifics

- Select both kernel files for source DB and target DB because DMO will need both of them

Dual-Stack Split

- Only pure ABAP system can be migrated to SAP HANA DB

- Need to be split before hand

Required Software download for DMO

- SPAM/SAINT update
- SUM
- SAP Host agent latest patch
- HANA Client Installation
- Migration Key
- License File for target system

Unit 2 Lesson 2: COnfig SAP Host Agent for DMO

SUM – tool for system maintenance of AP System on BW

Host agent – where browser start the SUM for DMO procedure using HTTP Requests to Host agent

Unit 2 Lesson 3: Examining the DMO UI

- SAPUI5

Unit 3 Lesson 1: Starting the DMO Run

Supply SID Admin user and password because SAP Host Agent needs to start the SAPup

Landscape Reorganization for HANA DB

- HANA DB is required during DMO, it partitions and distributes tables across HANA Nodes
- 2 Scenarios
o Scale up (Only one node)
o Scale out (several nodes, currently only available for SAP BW)
- DMO offers section HANA SCALE OUT checkbox “Landscape Reorganization
- Scale Out: select checkbox, dialog opens before table creation to import file to HANA
- Scale up: do not select checkbox, UT migration asking you to manually import a file for the table
partitioning
o For tables with more than 2 billion entries
Unit 3 Lesson 2: Continuing DMO Configuration

Unit 3 Lesson 3: Configuring DMO Step Preprocessing

Steps

- DMO procedure should be prepared so latest Software Update Manager is available

- SAP Host agent Must be updated
- HANA DB has to be organized beforehand

Shadow Repository –

- Created in source database

- Contains basic table and some customizing tables
- Change in PRD repository are no longer allowed
- R3Load of shadow kernel export data from source datatbase and 2nd R3load import data into
target database, all done in parallel
- After loading, target kernel is now used for the system

DMO uses R3Load for migration

- Like classical migration based on Software Provisioning manager\

- FILE Mode: compresed and exported into a file
- Socket Mode: using Network connection for Migration in R3Load

Ways to Monitor Migration

- Monitor UT and DT migration on UI with Progress bar

- Process Bucket Monitor: Monitor Buckets
- Monitor Log Files for Migration phases

Unit 3 Lesson 7: Turning the DMO Downtime

SAP BW Migration using Delta Queue Cloning

- Possible to clone system and run two BW Systems in parallel

- 2nd system can be used for Migration
- Switch from source system to the target system is possible
- Downtime reduced to initial system copy and system switch at the end

Unit 3 Lesson 8: Listing DMO Steps after Preprocessing

Unit 3 Lesson 9: Explaing DMO Release Schedule
