Insurgency: Threat to the Philippines

Insurgency is the struggle between a no ruling group and the ruling authorities in which the no
ruling group uses political resources and violence. If there is a rebellion against the authority and those
taking part in the rebellion are not recognized as belligerents, the rebellion is an insurgency. Not all
rebellions are insurgencies. Those carrying out an insurgency are insurgents. Insurgents engage in
regular or guerrilla combat against the armed forces of the established authority, government or
administration. They never stay in one place longer than necessary to demonstrate to the people their
freedom to move around and their invulnerability to government forces.

The violence which is used by rebels to make people fear anytime is Terrorism. It is also a global
issue which affected almost all the nations throughout the world. Insurgence and terrorism had a big
effect on children and they are the most affected, children who experience these attacks have the
greater chance of having depression, anxiety and trauma not just children but also all human being.
According to Karl Marx in his theory he said that rebellion has for ultimate goal to overthrow the ruling
class and its antiquated mode of production. The causes why there is a rebellion it is because of poverty,
religion, crimes and corruption.

When our economy became worse because of insurgency, it is possible to cause higher product
prices, low on production, and it will lead our country to poverty and more crimes will happen. There
are two longest insurgencies in Asia the NPA or what we called New People’s Army and the CPP or the
Communist Party of the Philippines, the New People's Army known as the revolutionary war against the
government in the Philippines. Last December 5, 2017, President Duterte declared the CPP-NPA as a
terrorist organization. Their intention is to overthrow the Philippine government in favor of a new state
managed by the working class and to expel US influence from the Philippines.

Yes I consider them as terrorists because they commit crimes, murder, kidnapping, destruction
and since then they were recognized as criminals. Base on my understanding communism is said to be
an organization where everything and everyone is equal. But in reality communism is a lie the main
problem here is people. Because of power corrupts and we don’t make decisions the government does.

As a Foreign Service student, I think the best way to help people to stop violence is to help
people to understand other cultures, religion, and human behavior and help them to think of peace,
freedom and equity. Most of the issues that we heard and watched from the television are all about
terrorist attacks. Like the recent news that happened in our country the Marawi incident in which
hundreds of people died. That is why the government should focus on the safety and security to lessen
the crimes in our country.
