This 2nd revised edition of a highly re-
spected publication provides guidelines
for recognizing types of corrosion, as
well as the fundamentals of testing. It cov-
ers the most recent technologies for making
calculations, interpretations, and correla-
tions.
Eight sections edited by S. W. Dean, H. P.
Hack, E. L. Hibner and J. R. Scully contain
essentials for testing and evaluation; types
of tests; testing for corrosion types; testing
in environment; materials testing; testing in
industry; and corrosion-related standards.
The sub-sections are written and reviewed
by many well known corrosion scientist.
All results are shown in a variety of graphs
and tables.
The first chapter encloses UNS for metals
and alloys and their common names; stan-
dards terminology; SI and matrix guide;
general conversion tables; corrosion rate
calculations with all necessary conversion
factors, helping the user to have all neces-
sary tools at one place.
“Testing and Evaluation” shows planning
and design of tests, types of corrosion data,
metallographic and surface analysis, statis-
tical treatment of data, data computeriza-
tion and computer applications; followed
by “Types of Tests” where laboratory-accel-
erated tests, field tests, and service tests are
being specifically examined regarding spe-
cimen preparation, test duration, accelera-
tion factors and pertinent standards.
The next chapter describes all relevant
corrosion type tests, followed by 2 chapters
dealing with the different testing environ-
ments under the special conditions of la-
boratory and industry.
“Corrosion-Related Standards” provides
a comprehensive list of this matter devel-
oped by various organizations. A supple-
mentary CD-ROM includes 115 ASTM
and 60 NACE standards referenced in the
