The VAW UCSC and USC team
ran mobile clinics in six different
locations within the Bandeat Srei
District in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

December 29, 2017: 
 Bandeat Srei District, just
Education Day at
Kaun Rean
Before getting started with the clinics,
the VAW UCSC team held a successful
education day at a primary school in
the Bandeat Srei District, meeting and
connecting with some of the
community members and students
ages 6-15 that they got to see again at
the clinics. Having prepared for this
event throughout the club meetings
back in Santa Cruz, the UCSC team
members filled the day with a variety of
activities and stations where they did
arts and crafts, played capture the flag,
made and played with paper airplanes,
watched short Pixar films, and
exchanged new information about
their respective cultures and
upbringing. 
 In their free days, the team had to opportunity to learn much

ran smoothly without the welcoming
and wonderful VAW translators and
staff. 

They handed out the goodie bags
filled with toothbrushes and dental kits,
hand sanitizers, stickers, and a variety
of arts and crafts previously prepared
in the states and ended the eventful
day with a quick tutorial to flossing and
information on daily hygiene.

In collaboration with
members from the
University of Southern
California chapter, our
teams visited and ran mobile
clinics in six different
locations within the
December 30, 2017: Clinic Day 1, UCSC and USC Teams one to two hours outside of
Siem Reap. Both teams
attended their medical orientation in preparation for their
volunteer work at the clinics. 

Each location was a central area in the town ranging from
pagodas to the town chief ’s house, where community members
could easily commute to. Our attendance in total from all six
clinics was 619 patients. At each clinic, our volunteers worked in
one of the four stations:
Intake - Register patients: patient
information and history 

Vitals - Measure height, weight,
blood pressure and glucose (40+
age), heart and respiration rate,
temperature

Shadowing Doctors - Follow and
learn from doctors as they
examine, diagnose, and prescribe
medications to patients. 

Pharmacy - Help the pharmacy
technician bag medication
prescribed by doctors and enter
data.

Angkor Wat, the Floating
Village, the War Museum,
the Cambodian Circus,
traditional dancing of the
Apsaras, the night markets,
and more. While at it, they
got use some of the Khmer words they had
practiced and learned from the locals!
